I am a responsible home owner.  One of his suggestions is to allow people like me to refinance and save $3000 a year. Hope this becomes reality.  Boehner licking his lips constantly.  I think he felt kind of dry and needed a drink.  Eric Cantor looked like he had a fecalith right at the anal verge that was worrying him terribly.  Did not see any secret messages unless there was something to the fact that Joe and Boehner had coordinating blue and white ties.

A lot of what he said tonight he promised in his last campaign he was going to do.

The arrogance to think that America is so stupid they would actually forget his last campaign promises. It's been three years and some of the issues he mentioned haven't been done. Oh wait, I forgot...he can't do anything overnight.

On GMs own stats, they HAVE NOT RECOVERED. They have NOT paid back the bailout. They moved the money around and categorized it differently to appear, on the books, that the loan was paid. Their stock is currently 1/2 of what it($52.00) was when Obama purchased it ($104.000) yeah real wise investment. Three-quarters is still owned by the taxpayer, as well as GMAC. Your post is grossly misinformed. UAW workers made concession after concession to reduce GMs labor costs, and the deal they struck seems to be working beautifully. Had they not done that, it is much less likely the effort would have paid off in such a short period of time.

FYI, recent post-speech poll shows 91% approve of Obama's plan for the economy (up from the low 50s before the speech) and 82% support his plan for deficit reduction. How 'bout them apples?

Tie breaker - never needed - Wrong again

[ In Reply To ..]
Evidently, you know nothing of American history or congressional votes. The tie breaker has been used. Must be one of the fact so many on this board ignore or are just ignorant of, AGAIN!
In recent history, very, very, very rarely. sm - VTMT

The last VP to cast a tiebreaking vote in the senate was Walter Mondale under President Jimmy Carter and that was only one time.

Here is a list of tiebreaking votes since George Washington.

Biden has used the tie breaker vote ZERO times. - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
This would lead any rational human being to conclude that, within the context of this thread, which falsely presumes that Biden is a power monger, Biden has derived ZERO power from this VP function during his tenure as presiding officer over the senate. In other words, during the 111th and 112th congress, the tie-breaker has not been needed, as previously observed. He has, however, represented the US at a number of funerals, another of the very few VP "powers."

I am perfectly aware that the tie-breaking vote has been used in the past by 35 VPs, 244 times in all. John Gardner used it 3 times as did Charles Curtis and Daniel Tompkins. Henry Wallace, James Sherman and Levi Morton used it 4 times. William Wheeler and Elbridge Gerry used it 6 times. Hannibal Hamlin used it 7 times. Alben Barkley and Thomas Marshall used it 8 times. John Breckenridge used it 9 times. George Clinton (no relation) used it 10 times. Schuyler Colfax and Richard Johnson used it 17 times. George Dallas used it 19 times.

So within the context of this thread, who among these VPs went on to gain unmatched megalomaniacal powers on the order of Lex Luther? How may of these guys have you even ever heard of?

Bottom line. In my recent memory, Biden's vice presidency, as compared to his predecessors, has been rather benign, in terms of the power grab, dontcha think? Before answering, keep in mind that one only has to revisit his immediate predecessor's tenure to encounter the global terrorist/war criminal behind-the-scenes bunkered down VP who manifests a true and not so comical personification of Lex Luther incarnate. Heck, he even had a hard time distinguishing the difference between a human face and his targeted prey during that disastrous testosterone-driven hunting incident. Whatta guy, whatta guy.

[ In Reply To ..]
Instead heaving the old dictionary, maybe you should read tHe OP first. Poster said was NEVER used, which is not true.
I AM the OP. - Hence,
[ In Reply To ..]
I felt further clarification was in order since the reply demonstrated a certain degree of comprehension deficit.

I did not say it was never USED. I said it was not NEEDED. I then proceeded to employ my first-amendment-protected right to be as verbose as I please to illustrate my point (that Biden has never used the "power" of the tie-breaker), and to add the Cheney-by-comparison Lex Luthor afterthought, which I think served the purpose well. Yes, some VPs do have Lex Luthor aspirations. Biden is not one of them.

Oh, BTW. If you didn't bother to read the post (probably out of fear you might actually encounter some valid points or irrefutable facts not covered in your party's talking points manual), then your admonishment instructing me to read the OP (which I authored) makes you look downright silly (or just a tad hypocritical), doesn't it? Parting shots in drive-by attacks often have that effect. Just sayin...

PS: I'm old and while I have heaved my share of dictionaries in the past, particularly during the years I was building MT skills, I have not needed to do so in at least the past 25 years....especially when anwsering impotent and ill-informed personal attacks, necessitated by partisan cognitive impairments so often manifested on this board. I can refute those nonsequiters in my sleep.

[ In Reply To ..]
The refi ain't gonna happen for you - we tried it also - a loan modification, etc - they have guidelines that indicate it's only if you did a refi back in 2009-2010 that you can do this re-re-fi (LOL)....then you submit eons of paperwork, they tell you you don't have enough money for backup. Then they tell you to wait another 3 months and submit another statement of profit and loss or paychecks...then you make too much money but wait, we can try this....it is a bunch of B.S. and we tried for almost 8 months to get it done before I finally just withdrew my application. Not even worth the headache. If you are a legal citizen, you can forget the government helping you in any way, shape or form.

It was a good address. Lots to think about. - Thinking

[ In Reply To ..]
I think much of what he said was food for thought to all Americans. Much of it was what he thought people wanted to hear. I do not think Obama is a disgrace to our country, the rest of the political process has done that for us of late. Republicans have stated they just do not want to allow Obama to do anything until he is "out of office." How do they know he will be?

As for the state of the economy, at least he did not get up there and tell a bold-face lie and say repeatedly, "The American economy is strong," as GWB did when he knew differently. GWB had build a house of cards that fell when he closed the White House door on his way out regarding the banks, the auto industry, the housing industry, 2 wars, the weapons of mass destruction, and the unemployment crisis. This did not just happen in the last 3 years. Why has no one taken a look at lost revenue from off-shoring in all affected industries, and forced companies to come clean.

No, I do not believe Obama is responsible for the shape our country is in, and there is no way that ANYONE is going to fix it in the NEXT 4 years either, much less accomplish it all in the last 3, no one could.

I think the govenor's rebuttle speech was an embarrassment to the Republican party and the American people. Just how stupid do they think we are? I am not saying NO republican can turn this country around, but I do not think it will be Newt or Mitt. It is going to be a long-haul process for anyone, and I do think Obama is headed in the right direction.

As I have said before, do you really think a person with integrity and honesty could/would make it to the White House as president, dem or repub, or even Congress for that matter? Take a look at your politicians, what they stand for, their voting history, their accomplishments, and their failures. Do not base your opinions on 1-2 speeches that you hear, or the mud slinging that goes on between the parties. It is a little scary, as you will see that well-qualified people simply do not want to be president, and I can't say I blame them.

Thinking - Better think again

BO does nothing but lie. I guess there are few peopel that BO still gives a tingle up their leg to. Too bad Dems did not follow the last 2 lines of your post. Obama is NOT honorable and has done nothing but lie. Not sure what speeches you are listening to, but it certainly is not the ones Obama's been giving for the last several years. Obama is only headed in the right direction if you want a European, socialist style government. Those that actually want freedom and want to follow the Constitution, know you don't follow Obama.

Better think again? - Don't need to.

[ In Reply To ..]
Do you not believe that ALL politicians lie, cheat, and steal? I think that is how they get where they are actually.

What freedom restraints have you suffered? How has the lack of constitutional guidelines affected you? How would the current legislation, passed or not, ruin your life?

Honestly, republicans were in office for 8 years. Obama has been there for 3. What we are doing is not working!! And the message to be gleaned from this is that if We The People went to work every day at our jobs - and did not actually do our jobs, we would be gone. The same should hold true for Congress.
Better think again - Pretty clear you do not

Who cares that republicans were in for 8 years because before him democrats were in for 8 years. Three years is a long time - It's not "overnight" anymore.

I do agree with your last sentence. If we did not do our jobs we'd be gone and so should congress (and I don't care what party they belong to - if they don't do their jobs they were elected to do they should be gone)
Oh no, I did not say it was okay that all politicians lie. - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
Even in their rebuttle, the republicans admit that the state of our economy "is not his fault," (speaking of Obama). They had 8 years, and look what happened. Oh, but even the republicans have stayed as far away from George Bush as they can get. They are all probably in agreement with most of what Obama is trying to do in repairing the damage, they are just afraid that the millionaires/billionaires are going to have to pay their fair share just like everyone else. They no longer refer to themselves as "the rich," but the "job creators." Really? For who, China, India, the Philippines?

Be careful what you wish for.

Rebuttle - NOT

I am not looking up anything for you. You have a computer, turn it on, go to Google research it yourself. You will find the Dems that were "too busy" to meet up with Obama during their campaings. Obama HIMSELF has repeatedly stated he embraced and sought out Marxism - where do you think socialism comes from. Obama has repeatedly revered Alinsky - what do you think he was? Then there are the Communist conferences Obama attended, but downplayed when revealed. This president is scary for anyone that actually bothers to check him. Google it, Bing it, Yahoo it. You can also go to the library. Since I know what socialists are and that Obama is one and I am not, pretty easy for me to tell the difference. Evidently others on this board, not so much.

I don't believe asking a billionaire to pay their "fair share," whatever that is determined to be, is socialist. Perhaps you can go Google what the "job creators" do contribute. Mitt's tax return was just publicized. No, I do not think that a socialist would ask him to cough up even a fairer share.

You may certainly have your opinions about whatever you consider substance or facts. Why don't you try that instead of looking to debate a written fact somewhere that you look up, but do remember, there is always another point of view.

Of course this was 10 years ago, but we made from $8.10 per hour to a max of $12.39 per hour, but we did only have to pay $50 a ...

Not Your Father's UnionApr 19, 2012
These people are dangerous.  This is not your father's union, that's for sure.  Since the Dems are so closely tied with the AFL-CIO and plan to spend $400 million to re-elect Obama, will anyone in the Democrat leadership condem this violent rhetoric?  No, I doubt it. http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2012/04/19/walker-springfield-protest Tuesday, over 2000 union protesters rolled into Springfield, IL, to protest Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, speaking at the Il ...

WASHINGTON -- In recent months, the management at Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System has approached workers with a set of proposals that include layoffs and cuts to pensions and health benefits.  . . .  But rather than roll over, the union of nurses, technicians and other hospital workers has rejected management’s proposal, instead launching a counter attack on the executives themselves. The hospital\'s top officials now face a firestorm in the local media and an aud ...

I was kind of surprised to see Steny Hoyer suggesting the military should be included in that freeze, though.  If the freeze ever happens...since the union has bucked up. Ain't politics grand?? ...

Walker's War On 100,000 Public Union TerroristsFeb 27, 2015
I was brought up in an upper Midwest rural microcosm known as "a small town".  In my small town there was culture and economic class that was highly visible in a very personal way.  There were the surrounding farms and ranches.  These people were hardworking, average, normal people that kept the whole regional economy running.  The town had the main street small businesses.  The doctors and bankers at the top level, the business owners at the next level, the clerks and w ...
