The Pope should not be addressing Congress. He has no place in our countries politics. Also, our country is not catholic. Our country is a melting pot of many religions, why in the world would they be having a religious person from one religion address congress. If they do that then they should have a representative from every single religion address congress at the same time.

Also, I don't appreciate that they are having someone address our congress that has come out and said that you are not a Christian unless you go through him (unsure exact words he said), but that was the meaning I got out of what he said. I'm sorry, but I believe in God and I am a Christian and I don't need him to tell me otherwise.

Not to put these ideas on anyone but a relative of mine, older lady, conservative. She once informed about what she had been told were the "wrong" religions:

Please know these are not my thoughts or anyone else's but this relative who is very conservative and I do not believe they are her original thoughts, I believe she was advised by a minister or some other higher up in her (Methodist) church.

1. Catholics pray to women so that was wrong according to her source.

2. Mormons are not true Christians because their prophets and Gods are not the same according to her source.

Those two rules were enough for me to tune her out, but I do believe they have to pump up their religions as being the true one, the best one, the only one, etc., even though you worship (ostensibly) the same God.

Being discounted because Catholics pray to women was bizarre, I thought, but that would fit right in with the conservative political viewpoint too. Not allowed to invest authority in a female for anything, even so far as praying to Mary.

That IS bizarre... Catholics, who oppress women, - pray to Mary... a woman. LOL!

The "Hail Mary" prayer is actually quite lovely and is a prayer to Jesus's mother. I am a fallen Catholic, now atheist, but as prayers go, it is not bad.

Does Buddhism have any rules about women?

I don't think Catholics oppress women any more than any other religions to be honest, but maybe I'm wrong.
