"Record-low ratings for Obama's State of the Union address: Fewer than 33.3 million Americans watched President Obama's State of the Union address on television last night, the lowest turnout since President Clinton's final State of the Union address in 2000, according to newly released Nielsen ratings. Viewership for Obama's State of the Union addresses has been in decline since 2009, when he drew 52.4 million television viewers. 48.0 million watched on television in 2010, 42.8 million in 2011, 37.8 million in 2012 and 33.5 million in 2013. This year's speech now replaces last year's as the second-lowest rated since Nielsen began recording viewership in 1993."
This would be hilarious if it was not so sad. Maybe people are finally waking up to this president's lack of leadership and experience.

Also, I know the Republicans will behave in the same old thuggish way. That is why Obama probably does not feel it is worth trying to work with them anymore.
Think about it, if you are nice and comfortable, you don't move. But if you are cold, you go get a sweater; if you are hungry, you make dinner; if you have a pain, you go to the doctor.
By the way, I watched the president on the internet. How do they count those viewings?

Unfortunately the president has been put in a position that if anything is going to happen, it's going to be by EO thanks to Republican obstructionism and stagnation.
I hadn't thought about the internet viewing. My kids and a lot of their friends don't even have cable or watch TV. They basically watch everything via Internet.
It's why cold-climate countries are usually more - developed than warm ones. Motivation.

[ In Reply To ..]The SOTU speech is largely a photo op to me - because its the president, regardless of WHO, standing up there plugging their record and asking Congress to do its job (with the slant on whatever party is in the Whitehouse at the time).
That said, I think this is the first time ever a president said, hey! if you can't act, I will do some stuff WITHOUT you!
And I just hope he (Obama) does so and with RELISH!!
I particularly liked his comments to the effect of "there is no point trying to convince Republicans about the O-care law, but let me see your alternative plan(s)"
LOL. They are only interested in beating the drums for the catastrophe that is NOT coming! Healthcare for all? Not on our watch say the GOP.

You can watch the president's speeches right on your cell phone. So it makes sense that TV ratings are so low.
