Candy: Internet kill switch

Posted: Jun 18, 2010

there is another source: http://www.cnsnews.com/news/article/68003  I am very much afraid if this goes through, transcriptionists would  be severely affected.  The way it is now, it's almost like construction, no work no pay.

Construction...sometimes work and no pay too - Backwards Typist

Ask DH. Waited 5 months for a check and finally had to threaten legal action. He's worked 5 days this year and doesn't expect any money until September. He used to have a good company, paid every week, then they ran into trouble when the jobs were cut and couldn't afford to pay.

As for the internet, I doubt it will go through, or at least won't affect MTs. I think the main thing they want to do is weed out the porn and scammers, but that's just my thoughts. I'll be keeping an eye on it and also email my reps.

you may be right, but to have that control at one's fingertips, well you can't undo everything. They have never cared about porn/scanners before now. I am mostly against the power of it all and scary how much business relies on it now, not just home bound. Saves a lot of "boots on ground" using the internet, like selling my house in another county. I would have had to trot back and forth in the old days. Everyone has to decide for themselves on these tidbits. Thanks for responding.

FCC Commissioner On Internet Oversight Switch. "If You Cherish FreeSep 28, 2016
This is irreversible." On Wednesday’s “Sean Hannity Show,” FCC Commissioner Ajit Pai (R) stated that the plan to “essentially give up the US oversight role…of the Internet” to ICANN is something that should worry anyone who cherishes “free expression, and free speech rights generally,” and could potentially cede oversight of the Internet to “foreign governments who might not share our values.” He further stated that such a move is “irreversible.” Pai said, “This ...

Guns And Intrinsic Danger. Or, "guns Don't Kill, People Kill"Dec 15, 2012
If I were at a party, left the adults and put a nerf ball in the familiy room where the children were playing, nobody'd think anything of it. If I put a loaded gun in there, every adult would rush to get it before the children did. THAT IS BECAUSE GUNS ARE INTRINSICALLY DANGEROUS. The only thing that changed was the presence of a gun, but no one would claim it was actually the children who were dangerous. Suicides by gun are much more likely to result in death than ANY of the other usual ...

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2013/oct/30/nd-woman-hand-out-fat-letters-instead-candy-hallow/ Happy Halloween (to those who celebrate it) When I saw this on the news I thought it was a joke at first. Okay, maybe this lady has a point but IMO she had 2 options: 1. Do not hand out anything. Turn your light off, lock the door, stay inside, and keep your mouth shut. They are not your kids. 2. Hand out healthy snacks or non-food items like festive Halloween pencils, erasers, spider ...

JULIAN ASSANGE "DEAD MAN SWITCH" Goes Off After EXPOSING Hillary Clinton? Oct 23, 2016
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PbCX1vZVuMo Hillary Clinton is having a very, very bad October. There are many reasons why the campaign is in a freefall collapse unlike anything we have ever seen. The campaign has been rocked by numerous scandals revealed by Wikileaks and Project Veritas action. This could be the reason why Hillary has cancelled almost all events from now until election day except for private fundraisers. See the video for a list of reasons why Hillary's campaign i ...

"Cities Weigh Taking Over From Private Utilities" To SwitchMar 15, 2013
Gist is private utility companies (70% of us buy from private) tend to charge too much, to shave services to enhance profits (among other things, tending to be slower to restore power after outages and to be unwilling to bury power lines), to pay their executives too much, and to be unwilling to advance to new energy sources.  Publicly owned power tends to be cheaper and more responsive in all ways, and overall far more interested in investing in change to meet future needs now. But, altho ...
