Various states are preparing to sue if hb is passed

Posted: Mar 18, 2010

Imagine that....some states actually care about the people who live there.  What a concept.  At least 37 states are looking into this.

state governors to campaign for re-election. Failing to exercise the offer for states to create a state version of a public option will also undermine the die-hard opponents state reps in the next couple of election cycles, considering that the public option enjoys such broad support nationwide.

I say yes. Go ahead and sue their pants off. They will only be biting off their nose to spite their face (yawn). What a collosal waste of time.

Dream on - sweet dreamer

When the unfunded Medicaid mandates hit the states, they won't have any trouble getting the support of citizens to launch an action against this dimwitted government.

Speaking of dimwits, you should read the bill. Mandates - do not go into effect until 2014...

[ In Reply To ..]
and the funding is a staged event clearly spelled out for those who are intested in fact, not flap. CBO reports back this up as well.
Ah, but the taxes will start immediately. That's the only way this will work. - Anon
[ In Reply To ..]
Only a dimwit doesn't know that.
Wrong again, Sherlock. Tax and fees are phased in over time. - Tax CREDITS start in 2010 for
[ In Reply To ..]
small businesses (which will be increased in stages between 2010 and 2014). The only fees slated for 2010 are on pharmaceutical manufacturers, to be extended to medical device manufacturers and health insurance providers in 2011, hospital insurance tax rate for high wage workers increases by 0.9 percentage points on an individual taxpayer earning over $200,000 ($250,000 for married filing jointly) in 2013, and the Cadillac tax in 2018.

At least 37 states are considering some action. - Nothing like this since Civil War.

If this bill weren't so bad for the country, and if the CBO numbers weren't so "rigged" (not their fault - they can only score a bill based on what Congress says they're going to do, even knowing full well that Congress won't do it and even after warning Congress that they are double-counting the "savings" from the Medicare cuts because they spend it elsewhere, etc.), my tears would be crocodile tears instead of real ones. Logically, I should be laughing at the Democrats flinging themselves off the cliff like ignorant lemmings, but I can't because I don't think we'll never repeal this mess, and there's going to be no way to fix it either.

All we can do is take back Congress and see if there's any way to restrain this deadly cancer that we call a President, but who disgraces the title and the office.

Please note how world relations with both friends and enemies are deteriorating, by the way. Russia is going ahead with plans to help Iran go nuclear. Relations with both China and Israel have NEVER been worse.

Incidentally, Russia is going to drill for oil in the GULF OF MEXICO while we have a moratorium on further drilling there - and what's the chance they'll do it in a way that's as environmentally safe as our oil companies would have done it?

...and here's what's weird. We're going to wind up buying some of that the oil from Russia when it hits the market. There's no way to prevent it.

This administration is utterly, insanely inept.

Good observations - I see someone is paying attention - anon

It's just getting worse and worse as time goes on.

Thanks for your post.

Ummm...you mean no such mass stupidity? Guess what? - Fed law supercedes state in this instance.

The governors of those states are acting like pig-headed fit-throwing juvenile delinquents, staging tantrums and chasing after lost causes. From where I sit, this behavior is unacceptable in th middle of a recession when all of our energy needs to be turned toward jobs, unemployment and the economy.

Your post needs a reality check. Russia has been involved with the nuclear power plant since 1975, meaning that it has been ongoing under 22 years of republican US leadership and 13 years under democratic US leadership. Frankly speaking, as long as the US is bankrolling codependent Israel nine ways to Sunday, including nuclear, biological and chemical weaponry programs, it is hardly in the position to prevent Iran from using nuclear power to generate electricity. The Russian argument that their presence is crucial to the International Atomic Energy Agency's presence in Iran by providing a foothold for monitoring whether Tehran complies with nonproliferation requirements is valid. After all, the US and UN credibility on that score is, shall we say, rather tarnished afer Iraq. Iran would never concede to the kind of monitoring under their watch that will be required from their Russian benefactors.

In the grand scheme of things, Russia, the US, EU and UN have bigger fish to fry in Israel, where Netanyahoo is being Netanyahoo, playing games, lying, being coy, killing Palestinians, expanding settlements, violating terms of previous peace agreements, stalling and doing everything in his power to annihilate the Palestinian population and any chance it may have at independent statehood. Personally, I hope to see the so-called relations between Israel and its sugar daddy deteriorate to such a point that the US does what it should have done long agoâ¦.halt the money train and let them sink their own ship.

Yep. Russia has an oil deal with Cuba. This may be hard for you to grasp, but the oil reserves will dwindle no matter who drills them into oblivion. Someone in the Western Hemisphere needs to take the initiative in developing alternative sustainable energy resources, in view of the progress being made in the UK, France, Spain, Portugal, and Australia. It may as well be the US, or would you suggest we go for the short-term drill, baby, drill gain until we have tapped out oil and simply become dependent on THEIR alternate resources 5 or 6 decades down the road? Thanks, but no thanks. Itâs the responsible thing to do. What would be insanely inept is to ignore the writing on the wall.

given the whacky opinions by the Supreme Court lately, the cases are likely to be consolidated, the Supreme Court will probably agree to hear it, and since they think corporations are people, they're liable to rule in the states' favor. It all depends if the Supreme Court wants healthcare to be Obama's "Waterloo" like the Republicans do. My guess is yes.

Or, God forbid, the SCOTUS is actually apolitical and does the right thing for America! - Anon

Which in this case would be to invalidate this unconstitutional piece of crap.
I think Roberts and Alito have a little problem with Obama. (sm) - Nikki

At one time, they were apolitical, before they decided that coporations were people. That's clearly in the right-wing bucket.

I don't believe they're so apolitical any more. MY OPINION, to which I'm entitled.
Nikki would be correct. SCOTUS further proved - this with the ruling to allow
[ In Reply To ..]
corportions to contributed pretty much as much as they want to political campaigns. Even the pubs here have to be able to see what the outcome of that will be. Definitely in the right-wing-bucket. Oh, and it is also my opinion, to which I am entitled, before I am attacked.

So the Russians should take the oil and - sell it to us?

[ In Reply To ..]
You're not exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer, are you?

You make the argument against your own argument. Yes, the oil will be drawn off either way. So you're suggesting that this way is preferable?

Holy moley.
Did you not understand the difference between short term plunder - vs long term gain and
[ In Reply To ..]
being ahead of the curve vis a vis Russia. We do not own the Gulf of Mexico and can do absolutely nothing about Cuban and Russian drilling deals.

You are the only one suggesting we will be buying oil from Russia. The top 10 countries we import oil from are Canada, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, Nigeria, Angola, Iraq, Algeria, United Kingdom and Brazil. I don't know about you, but from where I stand, it makes a whole lot more sense to lessen and eventualy eliminate these codependent relationships with new technology that will put us back in the driver's seat, especially considering we are the greediest of all global gas-guzzlers. Call me crazy, but the drill baby drill approach seems short sighted and foolhardy.

There are some things that will go into effect immediately. (sm) - Nikki

What if the majority of people actually LIKE what they are receiving in regards to HRC?

It's definitely a historical moment, and this vote will be a historical one!

By "history," the Dems have wanted to reform healthcare for a very long time, and the Repubs have fought it for a very long time.

Maybe instead, Dems will be looking for "lefter" Dems to run for Congress in order to improve the bill that exists now.

Either way, the Pubs will go down in history as being AGAINST healthcare reform, AGAINST the average American and ONLY working for the very rich and corporations. Who wants more of THAT?!

Budget To Be Passed (hopefully) Apr 21, 2010
By Walter Alarkon - 04/20/10 08:50 AM ET Senate Democrats have written their budget resolution so they can pass jobs legislation using reconciliation, the controversial process used last month to move healthcare reform. The resolution does not specify what specific jobs measures could be covered, and does not explicitly allow for the use of reconciliation rules to pass energy legislation or the extension of George W. Tax Cuts Passed 277-148 And Reid/OmnibusDec 17, 2010
They worked late into the night to pass it. It will cost $858 billion but it gives everyone a "breather" for a while. Reid pulled the Omnibus bill off the table; i.e., just died.
