with one "present" vote, authorizing limited miltary action.  It authorizes up to 90 days of military action and bars troop deployment.  The White House is required to send lawmakers a plan for diplomatic solution to violence in Syria within 30 days of resolution enactment. They rejected Rand Paul's effort to impose further restrictions on the War Powers Act by a 14-4 vote.

Why don't we use the International Criminal - Court!?!

Aaaaaarg!

It was created for just these situations!

I do want us to help in any way we can in Syria, and I think that's the only way we can do it without creating more chaos.

I don't understand.

That would be great. It seems that Syria did not sign - the ICC's founding treaty, so technically

[ In Reply To ..]
can argue that it's not bound by it.

The UN could act under other law but won't be able to since Russia and China back Syria for various reasons that have nothing to do with approving genocide.

Then there are all the practical impediments to seizing a national leader and putting him on trial. George W. Bush is considered guilty around the planet of international crimes by ordering the use torture, but we did not arrest and deliver him to the ICC or U.N. for trial. And never will.

But I agree, putting Assad in jail and on trial for murder would be wonderful. There's a type of mindset that will make excuses for murderers who are going free but starts disapproving of them strongly once authority arrests them. THEN they become criminals to those minds. Whatever it takes.

Thanks for the explanation. I am just so - flabbergasted that it is easier

to bomb a country than to take its leader to court. It just feels...wrong.
Yes, sad so much easier to bomb and kill innocent - people than arrest a criminal leader. But,

we are all sovereign nations. There is no world government, which is what would be required, and you wouldn't need to use any fingers at all to count the percentage of humanity who would want that. So there we are.

Senate Passed Financial Reform Bill About An Hour AgoJul 15, 2010
I must go look at it now that it passed. There were stipulations that didn't rein in Wall Street but one article I read stated it does that.   "The Senate passed the financial overhaul package in a final vote Thursday, ending more than a year of wrangling over the shape of the landmark legislation. The focus now shifts to the monumental task of implementing the new regulations over coming weeks and months. The 60 to 39 decision came just before 3 p.m, only a few hours after Democr ...
