The Bill is DOA

Time to go back to the board and start over.

Lets hope and pray enough politicians have enough sense to see it for what's it's worth.

The Senate will pass their version - The Original Me

[ In Reply To ..]
The Senate does not like the House bill at all, so their version will likely be a watered down attempt at healthcare reform.

NJ/Nikki: Am I correct in thinking that future legislation can fix whatever they pass?

Senator-Fraud-from-Connectict, aka Lieberman, says he'll filibuster a public option. So if they pass reform without the option can it be added later?

Whichever version passes as I'm sure it will - gourdpainter

I see insurance rates going up even more, taxes going up, the "poor" will still have their Medicaid and the middle class will be screwed as usual.

at this point, GP, I think my best bet might be jail. 5 yrs for every year not paid, I figure they will get around to it right off, or not for 3 or 4 years. By that time, 15-20 years would just about hold me! I would get TV, year round climate control and 3 squares a day. I'm getting all that now!
Prison - gourdpainter
[ In Reply To ..]
If this passes it won't surprise me if the old debtors prisons are reinstated. For the "common good" ya know. Otherwise I guess they'll have to release all the murderers, child abusers, etc. to make room for those who do not or cannot pay for health insurance. Again, as I said before, I highly recommend the "Left Behind" series. While they are fiction, it is scary seeing the ground work being laid for just the things that are in these fiction novels.
Jail House Rock - Viking Fan
[ In Reply To ..]
We have that series. I'll have to read them. Revelations is a good one. So is a lot of what the Mayans predicted.

I'm more than prepared to defend myself should a civil war break out but I'm also prepared to meet my maker. My biggest fear is something happening to me and nobody being around to take care of my dogs.

I think if I could take my dogs with me, I'd opt for jail too.
I'm with you - gourdpainter
[ In Reply To ..]
Like you, I'm prepared to defend myself too and I'm also prepared to meet my maker. I know what you mean about your dogs, I feel the same about my dog, cat, horses and donkeys.
Gourdpainter - Viking fan
[ In Reply To ..]
Donkeys? No kidding? That's neat.

I am a worrier, always have been. One of my worries is that dogs don't go to Heaven. If that's the case, I don't want to go there. They're both passed out now, giving of that "Frito" smell that pugs do when they sleep.

You must have a lot of work on your hands with your animals.

I haven't gotten another pug yet. It's been too soon since I had to put my rescue down. I always figured if I had to put one of them down, I'd run out and get another but somehow, that just doesn't seem right and it doesn't seem fair to Toby's memory. I had him around 4 years, as he was an adult when I got him. I've had Bumper and Maggie since they were puppies and they're 6 & 8.

I only hope I'm good enough to make it into Heaven. We have a saying at our A.A. meetings - don't mourn for us when we die - our struggle is over.

Have you read "90 minutes in Heaven" or "The Shack"? 90 Minutes made me cry and when I finished, I went back and re--read the part where he discusses what he experienced while in Heaven.

And for those who don't believe in Hell and haven't heard my story - my mom's dad was an evil man who was never nice to anyone, beat his wife, molested his children, etc. He was always drunk. As he was dying, he lost consciouness for a few brief moments. He regained consciousness, sat up and started screaming "The hounds! The hounds! Get them off of me! They're nipping at my feet". Then he died. Sounds like the Hounds of Hell were having a feast on Grandpa Louie.

My mom ended up with his ashes, shipped back from California for buriel. She didn't like the man but took care of things. I sent her a home made card that said:

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.
You'll go on, as you must.
But you'll wonder as time passes,
"Why did I have to end up with the ashes?"

She said she cried she laughed so hard.

Anyway, would love to hear more about your pets. Always feel free to E-mail me at favresvikings@gmail.com I don't get to E-mail as often as I should but I will eventually answer. ;-)

Take care!
You sound exactly like me - just me

Your statement said everything I'm thinking too. I'm also right there with gourdpainter and linda too.

I worry about my cat should something happen to me, but luckily since DH does not work, he would take care of cat.

I was in the army so I know how to defend myself and my home, and I have no fear of death (just hope it is painless LOL). In fact I think it's going to be a whole lot better on the other side than what's going on here in the "human side" of life.

Have you seen some of the jails out there. My friend sent me some pics of one in Chicago I think it was. It was one of those guess what this picture is type things. It looked like a hotel or high class apartment building.

Yeah, let the murderers, rapists, child molesters, thieves, etc go free so there will be room for the people who don't want to purchase the Pelosi-crap-care plan. Maybe they'll build separate jails and dedicate them to her.
Pets - Just me - Viking Fan

Maybe it's because I wasn't able to have children. My babies are with me every single moment I'm home. If I'm sitting, they're in my lap. If I'm up, they follow me. If I'm in the bathroom, they're there too. If Hubby goes to take a nap in the bedroom, they stay with me. I know every single one of their expressions and a year later, I'm still mad at the vet for undermedicating Bumper for his pain after his hip surgery. All I could do is stay up with him for a few nights and hold him. I know their every move.

I grew up loving cats but my dad wouldn't care let a pet in the house - might get a hair from it! They usually lasted a few months before they got run over. Except for Starsky. He was one awesome black cat.

I worry that I'm going to literally fall off the deep end when Bumper and Maggie die. It was bad enough with Toby but he hadn't been with me as long and I hadn't raised him since he was a puppy. Still, when I brought him home, I dug a hole in the shade for him (broken foot and all) and pulled his cold, stiff body out of the box. I cried so hard, stroked his body over and over and told him I hoped he was happy in his life and that I was sorry if I ever wronged him, that I loved him. Once I laid him gently in the ground in a nice fluffy towel, I just covered him as fast as I could. I couldn't take it anymore. It's weird, but I still feel his presence at times. And I often pick up 3 of things instead of 2. Maybe in the spring we'll get us another black pug puppy.

I do know how you feel about your cat - nobody can take care of it like you can.

OK. I'm getting depressed. Positive thoughts. Positive thoughts. The Vikes are 7-1 and have some awesome eye candy at QB! The Packers are mediocare and the Bears and Lions both stink!

Time for some chocolate.

Take care and God Bless.
More happy things - Viking Fan
[ In Reply To ..]
More things to be happy about:

My root canal is feeling better. I had forgotten how badly Vicodin knocked me for a loop. I had to break 'em in half and I couldn't go without them because ibuprofen and Tylenol offered no relief.

We're supposed to have a little warmer weather in Ohio the rest of this week.

I forgot to mention that I also know how to defend myself. At my concealed carry class, we had to fire 42 shots at center mass (I like trying for the head but oh well), from varying distances, drawing from holster, and firing from hip. I hit 41 out of 42, the one going into the right arm. I still joked with the cop that it would have hit an artery in the arm and the guy would have bled to death but I got a point deducted anyway.

Hubby finally went back to work after vacation! LOL
Yup, your previous post proved it - your are my long lost twin - see message - just me
[ In Reply To ..]
Instead of answering multiple messages I kept it to this one. I too was never able to have kids. My pets are my children. I'm love to hear there are other pet lovers out there. I literally go into a depression when the commercial comes on and shows all the abused pets. I can't take it. We had two cats years ago and back in 1998 one of my babies got sick and I can't even go into it because I'm starting to get depressed and can feel the tears. I will just say it is horrible to remember what he went through. His sister we were told by a friend would live for approximately 3 months. Sure enough 3 months later we had to put her to sleep (tumor on her heart). I miss those cats every single day. I was back visiting family when hubby had to deal with putting her to sleep. I was in a panic and flew home early but not soon enough. I cannot say enough how depressed I get thinking of them and I'd better stop because I'm sitting here crying. I can't take it it hurts so bad. Okay, got my tissue...enough of that.

So...we have "kat" here. She was abandoned and we took her in. She was 3 years old and weighed about 5 pounds. Now she weights about 12 and she is so happy. I know every movement and expression she makes. Don't know what I'll do when something happens to her. The pain of losing my other too babies was hard enough. I just always hope that nothing will happen to DH and me at the same time as we don't know what will happen to her.

That's excellent news about your marksmanship and that hubby went back to work.

Good news here is I spoke to my dad who lost his job last year. His old work paid for re-training and in December he will graduate from the community college with a certificate as CNA. He will still have to take a test and get his license but he will be a certified nurses assistant and hopes to get a job in either a nursing home, extended care, or hospital. And he's 75 years old! That's good news indeed and I'm happy for him. He says all he needs is a job to hold him over til he turns 80 then he will be able to retire and not have to work.

oops..there goes my statement about Lieberman above. - LOL :-) - me

Just when you think something good about someone, you turn around and something negative pops up.

Okay, so forget my statement about Lieberman for VP, but the article from Kucinich I liked.

Depends - NJ

[ In Reply To ..]
I'm not particularly hopeful of the chances of fixing a broken health care bill. Opponents (who are a large part of breaking it) would say it's not working and repeal it. I think that's the plan :(

Hopefully Lieberman will lose his committee chairmanship if he filibusters. Hartford Connecticut is known as "the insurance capital of the world" and he is deep into their pockets.

[ In Reply To ..]
I could be wrong but I'm almost sure it was Lieberman who was running for some office back in the late 80s or early 90s in CT. He openly told everyone that CT would have to implement an income tax in order to keep going. He was defeated something awful by his opponent who ended up implementing an income tax anyway. Lieberman won the next election handily. The doctor I used to work for up there told me that story and I still find it amusing.
My mom (from CT) told me... - me
[ In Reply To ..]
That people used to really respect Mr. Lieberman. He said he worked for the people and when he said he was going to do something he kept his promise. She said pretty much everyone like him whether they were D or R. She said once he got hooked up with Algore, people said he became whiny and snively. She said their trust in him went downhill because he like Algore lied everytime he turned around. Nobody had trust in him anymore.

but the insurance companies are on board with reform and have been playing ball with Obama because they'll have more customers. And isn't Dodd from Connecticut too? Which would mean, by your logic, that he's in the insurance companies' pockets too, right? Or are they only "bought" when they're Republicans (or Democrats that go off the reservation)?

Insurance Companies - AzRain
[ In Reply To ..]
Yes, they are. Why do you think they've been so quiet all summer? The only reason they spoke up a few weeks ago was because the Baucus plan made the penalty on companies who didn't get insurance only $400 and the other Senate bill was much higher. They were pissed and came out with that estimate of how much the plan would cost (much higher than Congress was saying BTW) and now the house bill has the penalty back up at around 8%.
No earplugs here - NJ
[ In Reply To ..]

The insurance companies haven't been quiet so much as they've been sneaky. Have you heard of Wendell Potter? He was a big guy at Cigna, quit in disgust, and spoke up to a senate hearing committee.

United Health Group, the 2nd largest insurer in the country, urged employees to attend teabag meetings and to protest health care reform. Complaints have been made as this is unlawful.

Insurance companies aren't going to waste money putting their names on anti-health care reform ads. The American people would see through that in a heartbeat. But they have hardly been quiet.

Once the plan is pass it will take a loooonnnnng time to actually enact the plan - I really cannot see the diminishing Republican party repealing hard-won health care reform and if THE PEOPLE stood back and allowed it, well then they would deserve a huge part of the responsiblity.

the American people then turned around and elected Obama president....a virtual unknown entity. Never ran a business or worked a "real" job. State legislator for 8 years and Senator for 4 but only spent 2 years actually "working" at the job since he started running for president 1/2 way through his term. Wrote 2 books, the first of which was ghostwritten by William Ayres. Won't release his education or medical records, and had all of his papers from the Illinois legislature destroyed. So yeah, nothing surprises me after all of that either.
You believe Ayers? - NJ

Too funny ^^ He said he ghostwrote Obama's book to kid an aggressive journalist who then didn't bother to do any homework on it and the wingnuts took off running with the quote.

I would think they can amend any law (slavery, equal rights, etc.) in the future in order to amend/fix the parts that need "tweaking;" however, I'm afraid a bunch of Republicans will get in there under a Republian president someday and REPEAL healthcare reform altogether.

Excellent question, by the way.

P.S. Couldn't agree more with your comments about Lieberman. Anything to obstruct an honest debate.

Lieberman is one of the few honest ones left. - (must be why you dont like him)nm

[ In Reply To ..]
I just don't see a repeal likely and here's why - when you have a program that will affect so MANY, even if it doesn't work exactly right, it would be a huge blunder to repeal it.

You could be right, but I think the Republicans will settle for passing a very pale version of health care and then blocking any real improvements to IT - I think they see that as a better way to score political points with the foot soldiers.
You could be right. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. (nm) - Nikki
