Harriet Tubman most likely on $20 bill

Posted: May 12, 2015

for approval.

Harriet Tubman was a great leader of her time.

This is perfect---former slave owner replaced by leader of the Underground Railroad.

That would be wonderful.

Yes, this is okay, alternatively how about President Obama - sm

I think it would be great that the first black president be on the twenty. I think the $100 should be replaced with Hillary after she is done serving her 2nd term.

He's not black. He's half and half. Wait for a real black man. - If that's your only reason. (sm)

God knows he hasn't done a damn thing for the country.

The currency is supposed to be reserved for great people - not destroyers

Nobody should be put on a bill just because the color of their skin. President Jackson is on the $20 bill. There is no reason to change that and certainly not with someone who is destroying our country. Oh yeah, that makes sense, lets just put Stalin, Bush, Pol Pot or someone else on the bills. As for Killary....first she has not been elected yet. Second, looks like she's got some pretty big worries to think about and her supporters are dwindling away. She's losing more and more support each day. She should be figuring out how she is going to stay out of jail. Yeah, just what the country needs, another evil person on our money. I know lets just replace all the money with Irma Grese, Lizzy Bordon, and all the other evil people.

The portraits of great presidents need to stay on money system. Obama and Hillary have done nothing deserving of the privilege of having their mugs on the currency. There is no reason to change the portraits of who is on our currency. If anyone should have their faces on any currency it should be great presidents like John F. Kennedy or Eisenhower, Truman, or Roosevelt. Not racists, pathological liars, and narcissistic people who have done nothing good.
Making Harriet Tubman an excellent choice. - sm

Andrew Jackson was a robbing, land-grabbing swine who forced the Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Muscogee, and Seminole off their land, extinguishing their title to their land, resulting in one of the most horrendous chapters in American history.

Incidentally, when the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the Cherokee, Jackson deemed that as president he had the power to do as he chose - much to the chagrin of John Quincy Adams, Davey Crockett, Ralph Waldo Emerson, and many other people of the day with a half a brain in their heads.

Fooey. She's done nothing to deserve being on there. - nm

Perhaps you are not familiar with the name - sm

Harriet Tubman is perhaps the most well-known of all the Underground Railroad's "conductors." During a ten-year span she made 19 trips into the South and escorted over 300 slaves to freedom. And, as she once proudly pointed out to Frederick Douglass, in all of her journeys she "never lost a single passenger."

Some don't consider that a good thing like we do - Once upon a time...

[ In Reply To ..]
...there was a legitimate point made that there's a difference between promoting race and protecting race, and that it's not racist to think this way.

However, real racists picked up that flag and carried it around as cover.

I think we can safely say the comment you're replying to is the latter.

Because putting Harriet Tubman on a stamp or our money IS protecting race from the sort of people that don't believe that saving lives or helping to stop human oppression is heroism or deserves any credit or value, simply because that person is African-American/black, or because those she saved were.

Real racism in this room becomes more evident by the comment, doesn't it?
Yes, I was purposely responding naively - to see if point might be absorbed

but, well said, and thanks for your post.
I decided replying on this subject to you instead was the wisest course for me, here ;) - see msg
[ In Reply To ..]
Sometimes people here misinterpret several responses to the same comment as "gangups" and I didn't want that to happen.

Also, I posted earlier today that sometimes I wonder if some things aren't just said solely to ruffle feathers and provoke and elicit emotional reactions.

Since you direct-responded less emotionally than I could have, on this one, I decided talking directly to you about the subject was the wiser course.

But thanks, and same to ya. Very well said, and without the snark I would've displayed, on this one.

Would you mind sharing with us why you think this. "She has done nothing to deserve." Really.....? And what do you consider deserving? Like who?

Well, maybe they will keep printing some - with Andrew Jackson just in case

Wow! I'm truly shocked at the dislikes. - gobsmacked

Would anyone care to explain why you're against Harriet Tubman? I'm just curious. I don't understand what there is about her to object to.

Twenty - dollars

Why couldn't American citizens vote on this? My choice for a woman would have been Eleanor Roosevelt ... guess I'll just ask for tens at the bank.

I think they did vote on it and she was a close - second

[ In Reply To ..]

As for asking for $10s--Guess that is your right, but I think it is silly.

In retrospect, after thinking about this post - it makes me a little sick

[ In Reply To ..]
Why would you ask for $10s instead. Is it because your choice didn't make it, or ......?

"We Shall Overcome, We Shall Overcome..." - What that song really means

[ In Reply To ..]
Psst. Hey, it's dark over there. Look over here towards the light instead? (Feel free to remind me too do the same, sometimes, if I forget :)

I am not the light, no, but the message is.

Remember that back in the 1960s when this song was sung, racist whites paranoically thought it meant "take over" rather than what it really meant, which was "rise above" and move past it.

Because the entire problem with racism it's based on fear - the irrational fear that there's not enough resources to go around or room at the top for everyone, so they try to keep them down. But exactly what that song says has happened, we (as in African Americans and nonracists) DID overcome and we will continue to.

And I bet you a Harriet Tubman 20-dollar bill that commenter doesn't really want either FDR or Eleanor on it, either, because they consider them "Communists", it was just said so they could "appear" to be from the left and racist;)

Any takers?

Verizon BillFeb 25, 2011

The way Bill Maher sees it, resistance to ObamaCare is all God's fault. Why?
