Since this group of us is a bigger factor every election:

Posted: Oct 7, 2012

According to a political science professor in Texas: "There are countless misunderstandings about Latinos, their allegiances and their interests."

Short version:

1. "They don't vote." They DO. Bigger % every election.
2. "They're social conservatives who should lean Republican." Read the long, diplomatic version. (Strictly my own: They can't because too many pubs grab every chance to kick them in the teeth.)
3. "Favor increased government services. Therefore are reliable Democratic voters." Yes on the first part. Big BUT on the second, see #2.  (I know some are dying to be Pub, if only.)
4.  "Care most about immigration." Nope: #1: Job creation and economy. #2: Immigration (see note). #3. Closely followed by education and healthcare. (NOTE: Some of my legal Latino/a friends tended to resent illegals as much as any wall-hugger; i.e., a significant portion of those who "care" about immigration DON'T care for it.)
5. "Latino candidate gets their vote." Nope. They look to the issues. (Guess there are just too many people named Garcia, Rodriguez, Hernandez, Cruz, Rubio, etc. around these days.)

Detailed version, article from Washington Post:  http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/five-myths-about-latino-voters/2012/10/05/c61d5bc8-0271-11e2-8102-ebee9c66e190_story.html?tid=ts_carousel

because they're furious that Obama didn't help them like he promised.

I don't know if it's true or not, just my opinion so far.

I believe it may be true. Many more may just not vote. Obama - Obama deported a lot of good will with his

his record numbers of deported illegals. His legalizing many young people raised here when the Dream Act couldn't be passed may not make up for it. We have to have Hispanic MTs here. Any comment?

Thanks for including the actual article. Beats the - hate filled comments you added

Pretty good liberal strategy though, take and article and then add in hate filled comments towards conservation and you think people won't notice. Would have been a better post is the hate mongering was left out.

Thanks for including the real article.

I can count on one hand the people I've hated in a lifetime. - Not everyone hates easily or often. NM

and I don't see any hateful comments. You might want to check your hateometer - it may be rinning a bit high. I believe longterm exposure to partisan politics will do that.

Let me help you out there. I didn't notice it the first time, but - backwards typist

when I read the post again, noted that the OP's remarks are those comments NOT in quotes and they are hateful.
Yes, I know. And no, they're really not. - sm

You ought not look for offense where none was intended. By that I mean that I'm confident that if the OP had meant to be hateful, s/he was capable of leaving no doubt.

Unlike BT I noticed it right off the bat - hate filled comments you added

And to the other poster trying to claim they were not hateful. Yes they are and you know it, you just agree with it. Okay, so here goes:

Hate comment #1: "(Strictly my own: They can't because too many pubs grab every chance to kick them in the teeth.)"

Oops okay, I goofed, only 1 hate filled comment, guess it was so overwhelmingly hateful it ruined the whole post.
Sorry, still not seeing it. - sm

Just because you disagree doesn't make the other poster's comments "hate filled." That comment is mild *even for this very board.*

Bachmann: Welfare Receipents Getting Lap Dances Bigger Problem Than UnemploymentFeb 18, 2012
The House and Senate both approved a payroll tax cut bill on Friday that would extend unemployment benefits through 2012.But according to Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.), the extension is hardly the bill's crowning achievement."They're extending unemployment, too, but the big thing that we get is no longer can a welfare recipient walk into a strip club and get money out of an ATM machine to pay for a lap dance," she told conservative radio host Mark Levin on Thursday night. The Attack On Women's Rights: The Even Bigger Motive Behind Current Antiabortion Efforts. ByOct 21, 2012
in the United States "Women are now far more likely than men are to graduate from college or from professional schools. Upon graduation, they enter a labor market that no longer puts a premium on physical strength and instead values supposedly "feminine" traits like the ability to communicate and collaborate, and in which women are outpacing men. "At a certain point in the last 40 years," Rosin writes, "the job market became largely indifferent to size and strength. From then on, men no longer ...
