of all types of people and lifestyles, that hate groups like that Kansas Baptist Church seem totally foreign to me. Where do they get off PICKETING a high school for ANYTHING, and ESPECIALLY for being a school that teaches tolerance and equality?

That church-group's actions are disgusting. One year they came out to San Francisco and spewed their hate at the gay pride parade on Market Street. Thank goodness they were quickly surrounded, shouted down, and for all intents and purposes chased out by the hundreds of thousands of supporters of gay/bisexual/transgender rights that attended the parade. The fact that a handful of half-baked morons from a Kanasas "church" (aka Terrorist Training Ground) would make the trip to a city they don't live in, and know NOTHING ABOUT, and try to cause problems, shows you what kinds of people they are deep down.

You really have to hand it to Gunn. If those Kansas whackos were picketing MY school, (or parade or business, etc.) it would be hard to resist the temptation to simply beat the crap out of them. So to see all these Gunn H.S. youngsters outthinking, outnumbering, and showing the world what FOOLS the Kansas picketers are, in a completely sane, acceptable and PEACEFUL manner, shows us all what better people they are than the Kansas hatefuls, and shows us all how we should conduct ourselves. They made me proud to be a citizen of the San Francisco Bay Area.
It made me proud to be part of the group that - believes tolerance is one

I agree with you:  I couldn't be more proud of these kids for responding the way they did.  THEY won this time, not Phelps.

Unfortunately, I guess Phellps is going to have to continue crashing soldiers' funerals in order to take full advantage of the fragile spirits of his targets.

If the Supreme Court finds that Phelps was within his rights to interfere with soldier Snyder's funeral, then my faith in this system will finally be shattered.

Again, thanks so much for posting this. Smile

Not that I wanted to do that, but out of work all day. So, checked out a few more videos.

Two of his children were interviewed and they said beatings were common every day. One son said he was beat with a razor strap and when it frayed, well....it wsa twice as bad. I can't understand why law enforcement/Children's Services weren't involved.

One daughter thought for sure she was so sinful because her father told her so, she was afraid to leave because the outside world would hate her.

Fred Jr.'s love of his life died...they said suicide...but law enforcement said Fred Sr. was a person of interest. He wouldn't allow Fred Jr. to marry her because she was Catholic. Fred Sr. picked out a wife for Fred Jr. and wasn't happy that Jr. found someone outside the church.

Grandchildren (3 and 10) are holding signs about 'fags' but when asked, they didn't know what the term meant except they had to die because they aren't living a sinless life, and 1 grandchild (about 5) is singing the hate songs.

They love that people hate them because it means they are right. Huh? Incest is rampant according to one video. Even Ruth Phelps said her sins were washed away, so what she did was not a sin.

This is another Jim Jones cult and it's a shame the law can't do something about it especially about the children left there.

Thanks, BT. People like this are so scary and - ASmom

sad. Makes me wonder how many people are out there who really think like this. I know watching him on that Michael Moore movie, this man was vile and had quite a number of equally vile people following him. And now, the grandchildren are being brainwashed as well.

Groups like that should move to Kandahar, where - theyd be more likely to "fit in". nm

Teaching your kids to love... - barbara

[ In Reply To ..]
everyone is wonderful but they should also be taught that certain behaviors are sinful and acceptance of sin is wrong. Hate the sin (as God tells us we should) and love the sinner. Pray for those who refuse to change otherwise they will be lost. I wouldn't allow my children to get lost in the fray of those who accept sinful acts when God himself doesn't accept them. I pray for all those kids in that school that they will be able to see the difference.

You are entitled to your opinion, but respectfully, - I pray that you and your

[ In Reply To ..]
children learn to love and accept others as they are without regard for sexual orientation, or color, religion, gender, etc.

Sexual orientation is... - barbara

[ In Reply To ..]
is a man-made term, not God-made. We are all "sexually oriented" towards the opposite sex but some of us choose to sin by acting on sinful urges. My children understand this regardless of what others may tell them. Color and gender can't be changed. Sexual practices and religion are choices. Some parents take the time to explain the importance of this aspect to their children. Other parents choose to confuse their children. I consider that to be pretty sinful also.
So how, exactly, do you go about "hating the sin - but loving the sinner?"
[ In Reply To ..]
What constitutes acceptance, in your mind? Where do you draw the line between not accepting something and infringing on/hurting others whom you deem to be sinning, and I mean in people you may come accross at school, work, etc., not passing/lobbying for laws to be passed.

Plus, doesn't the Bible teach that we all sin? That there isn's anyone who is free of sin? Doesn't it also say that all sin is equal in God's eyes? With that in mind, should people avoid you (or whatever it is you/your children do with homosexuals) because of your sins, whatever they may be?

I honestly would like to know your thoughts on these questions.
My thoughts... - barbara
[ In Reply To ..]
Yes, we all sin but there are those of us who can admit to our sins and not be proud of them. Homosexuality is a sin just as murder, stealing, etc. Please don't ask if I am comparing homosexuality to these sins as the answer would be YES...they are ALL sins. My sins are private...between me and God. The sins I commit I am ashamed of and I ask forgiveness for. I strive to not commit these sins on a daily/continual basis. I don't validate them or strive to justify them as normal, natural, or anything other than what they are....sins...unlike those who commit the act of homosexuality. It is my duty to accept people for who they are not for the sins they commit. I respect someone as a person but not as a "homosexual." I would love and respect any person but when/if that person tells me they commit a sin that they happen to be proud of (whatever that sin may be), then I do not have to respect that choice. I, in fact, don't have to associate with someone who is proud of their sins as I'm not proud of mine and I keep them to myself.

Those are my thoughts. You don't have to like them but it doesn't mean I will change my mind. And there are many others who think as I do. :)
So, I guess you would be okay with a closeted, - guilt-ridden homosexual?
[ In Reply To ..]
Of course, you technically wouldn't know. There are PLENTY of them out there, however. I don't know about that logic. And please don't think I'm trying to change your mind...far from it. I know I can't do that. It's just that I don't get a chance to discuss these things (with a person who believes differently than I do) often in the "real world;" too taboo for a lot of people.

It just seems to me that it is kind of burying your head in the sand. There are people who kill or molest others who feel terribly guilty about it afterwards, and don't tell a soul. They may tell themselves they will never do it again, but the urge overtakes them and they can't help themselves. Does that make them equal to you? Or do you never repeat the same sin twice? Better than an openly gay person who doesn't feel guilty about it, but is a wonderful person in every other way the Bible says to be? Is there a difference between being proud and not feeling guilty? I guess that just seems skewed to me. And I appreciate your time in answering me, and not taking this to a "nasty" level, as so often happens in these discussions.

I don't understand your question... - barbara
[ In Reply To ..]
We are all wonderful in certain ways. That doesn't excuse any sin that any of us may commit. No, there is no difference in being proud of a sin or not feeling guilty for that sin. Am I supposed to be sympathetic to a person who feels "guilt-ridden?" If they are guilt-ridden, maybe they should do something about it. Do you expect those who believe it's wrong to change their minds just because someone feels "guilty." Not likely to happen. Because I believe what God tells me doesn't make me any better than any one else. It just means I believe in God and what he teaches....no more no less. If a person never speaks of their sins, no one would ever know; however those who commit the sin of homsexuality seem to want the world to know and to sympathize and accept it. That will never happen and accusing someone of feeling superior or better won't change the way that person believes and it won't make them feel guilty either.
Totally missed the point...so you believe a homosexual who stays in the closet and feels guilty abou - But the other question,
[ In Reply To ..]
about the molester/murderer, who keeps it secret and asks for forgiveness and tries to "turn away" from their sins, they are on par with you? Worthy of your "acceptance?" Even if their human nature makes it impossible for them to do it again, of course asking for forgiveness and being contrite each time? Is it somehow "better" to keep you sin secret? Homosexuals aside, just in general. If so, does the bible tell you this?

QUOTE: Am I supposed to be sympathetic to a person who feels "guilt-ridden?"

Well, wouldn't Jesus tell you to? If the bible says NOT to be sympathetic to sinners, then I'm glad I don't follow it! Who said anything about making it make you change your mind? You seem to be so fixated on the fact that you're "not going to change your mind" or "feel guilty" that it is skewing how you read and answer my questions. I'm not trying to change your mind (or make you feel guilty, but I think you might protest a little too much to believe that you feel anything but), only wanting a glimpse of how it works.

Unfortunately, I think I'm starting to get that glimpse, and it is a little unsavory.

Someone must not be as firm in her convictions as she tries to portray!
Respectfully, I do not agree. I think we are - sexually oriented the way
[ In Reply To ..]
however "God" made us and therefore can not be changed, nor should be expected to. I have a son that I am very proud to say is accepting of all people. I am proud of myself and my husband for bringing up some a loving and accepting kid. He is not the least bit confused, nor am I. I have known him to defend kids he did not even know who were being bullied just because they were "different" and I still tear up when I think about that. He understands that people are people, regardless, and that we should accept them as that. I have always hated the word "sin"-so open to personal interpretation, and so reflective of religion as opposed to just being a good person and doing good by your fellow man. IMHO, to teach kids to be unaccepting of others based on religion, sexual orientation, color, or anything else that is either something that they were born with (ie homosexuality) or does not hurt anyone (ie homosexuality) and is therefore no one elses business (homosexuality) is pretty "sinful" although I prefer to say that they are people who are lacking in understanding.

I have no wish to argue this point with you. You will not change my mind that passing judgment on a portion of the population that has done nothing wrong is wrong and no amount of bible scriptures or preaching from others is going to change that. In fact, I find the more that I listen to people rationalize these attitudes to me, the more offensive it sounds to me. That is just the way I as well as my family feel, and I am very proud of them for it.

I have to go to work now. Thank you for this discussion.

I don't have the courage to mock God and call him a liar no do I have the desire to do so. You can try to rationalize it all you want. God clearly says that behavior is sinful...an abomination to be exact. I don't believe that God would make people who are unable to resist the urge to do something that he considers abominable. The world wants to try to force us to accept this behavior as if it is natural and that some people were "born this way." God says different and I believe him. I wouldn't teach my children any different and you won't change my mind.

Who's the American Taliban?
by Llewellyn H. Rockwell, Jr.

The political buzz for weeks has centered on whether the Democrats are going to employ the "Taliban Strategy," claiming that the Republican Party’s right flank is the "Taliban Wing."

How does the left get away with describing right-wing thought as Talibanish, especially when compared to the left-wing agenda of speech codes, economic regulation, and authoritarian intervention in every aspect of American private life?

Recall that the Taliban consisted of a pack of young people just out of specialized Islamic school where their heads were filled with political ideology stemming from a maniacal rendering of a handful of books they considered holy writ. Once in power, they attempted to impose this rendering on the entire population in the hopes of creating a kingdom of God on earth.

That is also a short description of the career of countless numbers of left-wing reformers in America, where colleges and universities filled their heads with other-worldly socio-political theory that they then attempted to impose on a resisting population.

Egg-headed utopianism is only one similarity between the Taliban and the American left. Who favors:

punishing and even criminalizing speech and thought that contradicts egalitarian ideology on issues of race, sex, disability, and sexuality;
enacting national restrictions on eating fast food or driving fast cars;
police enforcement of rules against smoking, drinking, gambling, or otherwise indulging in traditional but socially harmless "vices";
punishing people for failing to piously separate their own private garbage, can by can and bottle by bottle, into five types of recyclable material;
spying on families to discover whether they are spanking their kids and/or failing to expose them to politically correct attitudes and a sufficiently diverse social circle;
regulating the content of films and music to ensure that they do not send messages to youth that the politicians regard as culturally inappropriate;
making end-runs around parents by having public schools indoctrinate children in all the recent political priorities of the ruling regime;
abolishing the freedom of association and mandating adherence to detailed government rules concerning all uses of private property in hiring, firing, consumer service, and housing;
curtailing property rights in the name of federally protected species and plants, and even claiming omniscience in seeking to alter weather patterns one hundred years in the future;
restrictions on the right to advertise;
outlawing mining, drilling, logging, and other forms of commerce considered insufficiently devoted to holy mother earth;
cracking down on any form of humor that pokes fun at any politically favored group;
imposing ceilings on the ability of lenders to charge market-determined interest rates and passing other forms of anti-usury laws (as favored by the Taliban);
special protection for women in the law on grounds that they constitute an inherently weaker sex that would otherwise be exploited by powerful men;
restrictions on the right to display religious symbols or otherwise reveal religious preferences that are contrary to political priorities;
regulating the right to reproduce to prevent supposed overpopulation;
extreme regulations on the ability of individuals and families to acquire weapons of self defense, on grounds that all people ought to entrust their safety to public employees;
consolidation of all political power in the center to prevent that emergence of local leaders who might enact policies contrary to the ruling ethos.
Sure, there are people on the right who may go along with such policies, though in doing so they contradict their general principles favoring freedom and limited government. On the left, however, such extreme measures of social, cultural, and economic control are endemic to the ideology itself. We can only imagine the type of controls that would weigh on our national life if the left had its entire way.

For reasons hard to fathom, however, the political left still enjoys the reputation of favoring civil rights, civil liberties, and the rights of individuals. But it has been years, even decades, since that was true in the United States. All the old talk of civil liberties and free speech turn out to have been a ploy to gain power so that the left could impose its own form of controls. Look at what they have imposed on the universities they control!

What’s more, the regimes with which the left has variously sympathized over the years – Soviet and Chinese communism – have been the most despotic anti-freedom regimes in the history of the world. After all this, the left has lost any right to claim the mantle of freedom, much less to contrast itself with the tyranny of Talibanism.

The problem with the right in America isn’t that it is like the Taliban. It is that it is too often willing to abandon libertarian principles and kowtow to the intrinsic Talibanism of the left, which is just another variant of big-government control.

I went through 12 years of Sunday School and church. Been through episcopal, methodist, catholic, mormon, lutheran, and baptist services.

What I learned in my years of church and school is that God is Love. God does not hate. Nobody is asking you to mock God and call him a liar, but I fear what you are being taught in whatever church you go to is not the teaching of Jesus or has anything to do with God if your are going to hate others. You are taking whatever you are reading and being told and twisting it to what you want. The problem is nobody actually knows God exactly. Some think they do and then I read statements like this.

I do have to agree with the poster above that said "When someone starts using god or the bible to justify predjudice, I wonder how that stable that person is, and how far would they act out to back up that predjudice."

Nobody is forcing anything upon anyone. If you are talking about gays and gay marriage, then you are talking about people. Human beings that live, breath, eat and drink. People who are "created in Gods image". People who work and pay taxes. People who probably also worship. People who treat others the way they want to be treated. People who respect others, when they are not even respected themselves. Truth be told, nobody know exactly what God thinks.

If you are basing everything on what you are being told by whoever, or what you read in your bible, then maybe you should learn about the history of the bible and who had a hand in writing it, putting in what they wanted and leaving out what they didn't want in it.

All I know is God tells me to love others as I love myself. Treat others with the same respect I wanted to be treated with. It makes me happy to be nice to people and I couldn't imagine getting happiness from treating people terribly because they don't live the same lifestyle I do. Not the way I was taught to act in church and sunday school or by my parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles.

On another note, I wish people would keep talk about God and Jesus to the faith board.

Since the Dark Ages and beyond, religion has been hellbent to denounce science, discourage higher learning, and control its followers and non-followers out of fear. Fear of violence, fear of Hell, even fear of being an outcast or a social pariah if they don't think and act like everyone else.

Sick, ignorant, twisted, and dangerous.

You don't know the first thing about - religion or the religious life.

[ In Reply To ..]
Religious people BUILD plenty (settled most of the California coast) and they EDUCATE many...and not merely in religious teachings, either, but also in all of the "hard" and "soft sciences, languages, mathematics and even business.

Discourage higher learning? You're very sadly misinformed.

Many faith-based colleges (e.g. Southern Baptist, Methodist, Nazarene, etc.) have HIGHER rates of acceptance of their students to medical and other professional schools and programs than their secular counterparts. You might also have heard of that little group known as the Jesuits, who run schools like Santa Clara University, one of the toughest schools in the country.

All of these organizations also are among the only ones who have founded universities in remote parts of the world.

And I wonder, with respect to the fear of Hell, it's funny how often people who deny its existence are the ones who are always telling people to go there. I've often wondered why they choose that particular place instead of, say, Disneyland or the Crab Nebula - both of which are "real". Banishing someone to an imaginary place is rather pointless, it seems. And please, don't bother telling me that you've never told someone to go to Hell.

So there's something called "sin" - is there?

[ In Reply To ..]
I take it that by "sin" you're implying that human beings sometimes behave in ways that violate God's precepts.

Unfortunately, this quaint notion requires that a human being must first come to the startling revelation that he himself is not God.

Relinquishing the throne of deity is a very distressing process, until you experience the relief that also comes from no longer having to bear the ultimate responsibilities of playing god in your little house of cards. This is what Jesus really meant by "I will give you rest".

I stepped down from the CEO's job some time ago after running the business into the ground for a number of years. It's doing much better now, and I don't miss the "freedom" to make up the rules in the slightest. Being god didn't turn out to be any fun at all.

My 18yo Son Wants To Drop Out Of High School And Get His GED.Mar 10, 2011
I understand why he wants to drop out.  He and his girlfriend of nearly three years broke over the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.  Basically, he found out that she had slept with two of his supposed good friends and also tried to get with a third.  I'm not sure why she did this as my son treated her like gold.  He followed her around like a little puppy.  Did everything she told him to do.  He all but stopped attending family functions because she wa ...

My 40th High School ReunionMar 26, 2012
I haven't been back to a reunion since my 10th one. Now, I'm debating whether to go because so many of my classmates are successful, two published authors, military officers, doctors, lawyers.  Very small graduating class.  Many of them have taken early retirement, live on Hilton Head, SC, etc. I don't want to tell them my pay has been cut in half and I work for an Indian company. Is that pathetic? I would also add that I was the geeky, awkward, nose-in-a-book, dateless, ...

Need Idea For Get Well Gift For High School Girl....Nov 20, 2009
My son, who is in his mid 20s, is assistant coach for the high school girls' soccer team.  The young lady, who is team captain, has injured her ACL severely and probably won't be playing anymore but shows up for every game of course.  They all are getting her a little  inexpensive "get well" to give her tonight.  My son has no earthly idea what to get her and frankly, neither do I.  He wants to keep the  gift very generic, so as to not let the young lady g ...

My 'baby' Is Graduating From High School This WeekendJun 02, 2011
I can not believe my baby is graduating high school.  This May my two boys turned 18 and 21 and now in September they will both be in community college.  I am so probud of them coming this far but it is bitter sweet.  They both have Asperger's syndrome (very high functioning autism) and although they are growing up, not sure if they will ever leave home.  They are good boys and I have done all I can to help them succeed in the world and there are new life lessons every d ...

Socioeconomic Malaise: Such As, Earnings Of Men With Only High School Diplomas Dec 09, 2012
The No Good, Very Bad Outlook for the Working-Class American Man The U.S. economy is still a powerful engine, but workers aren’t seeing the benefits, less-educated men are struggling, and the rich have disconnected from everyone else. By Jonathan Rauch, The National Journal. [This article discusses some big, important trends the evening news isn't, regardless what channel the TV's turned to.] If the American economy were an automobile, you would say the transmission is failing ...

Oh, Those Good Ole Days Of High School Detention. Spent A Lot Of Time There.Feb 03, 2011
The post below made me think bad, and every time I do I laugh.  Now, I was not a bad kid but I spent more than my fair share of time in detention for the least little thing.  I would go to sleep in class and get detention.  Then I would go sleep in detention.  Our high school in Atlanta was grades 8-12, very large.  So you may have had 50 or more kids in detention.  Usually, the teacher monitoring detention did not even know you.  Sometimes I would have someon ...

Exhibit A is Payal Modi who identifies herself in social media as a “High School Art Educator, Designer, and Foster Mommy” in Dallas, Texas. Modi appears in a video firing a water pistol at an image of President Trump while she shouts “die!” Kristinn Taylor reports the U.S. Secret Service office in Irvine, Texas acknowledges it is “aware” of Modi’s video. ...

White Power Signs At Texas High School GameFeb 18, 2015
 "It's just so sad that kids have to take it to that level," she said.  What level is acceptable, I wonder.  Once again, some racism is okay, okay to think it, just don't hold up signs.  Okay to say it, just don't let the media publish it--Mississippi legislature. In my hometown which is say 70% white, 20% black and 10% Hispanic (sort of a guess), I am fairly certain these "kids" would have been de-signed by other fans, the administration or their very o ...

Hate Group Lawyer Drafted Arizona's Anti-Immigration Law!May 03, 2010

Psychology Of Hate, 7 Stages Of Hate.Aug 27, 2012
I got to wondering once again what is behind some of the behaviors we see on a lot of forums, so I went looking. This link discusses one model, explained by a former FBI behavioral analyst, that is easy to apply to on-line forum discussions, where behaviors would, of course, play out in the first four stages. (The discussion on skinhead groups can be skipped over, if desired, with the actual 7 stages explained below.) It was the last section, though, on how indulging in hate tends to play out ...

Pro-Obama Group Targets Pro-gun Jan 18, 2013
Throwing free speech to the wind, if these Dems don't get on board with Obama, they will be ostracized for daring to disagree. "The liberal Coalition to Stop Gun Violence released a video ad Wednesday condemning Democratic Georgia Rep. John Barrow for not fully supporting President Barack Obama’s gun control policies. "The ad, which states, 'Shame on You, John Barrow,' is an attempt to force the Democrat to change his position and 'support the president’s gu ...

Noah's Ark AIG Ken Ham Group Sues KYFeb 03, 2015
This charleton makes me want to vomit every time I see mention of him. I am glad the people of Kentucky are waking up to the kool-aid drinking creationist theme park in their midst.  If only they would call it an amusement park, it might border on acceptable, but it is nothing more than furtherance of brain-washing. Kentucky has wised up and will not give them over $18 million in tax incentives as the Creation "Museum" discriminates in hiring practices.    http://scienceblogs. ...

Since This Group Of Us Is A Bigger Factor Every Election:Oct 07, 2012
According to a political science professor in Texas: "There are countless misunderstandings about Latinos, their allegiances and their interests." Short version: 1. "They don't vote." They DO. Bigger % every election. 2. "They're social conservatives who should lean Republican." Read the long, diplomatic version. (Strictly my own: They can't because too many pubs grab every chance to kick them in the teeth.)3. "Favor increased government services. Therefore are reliable De ...

Soros Funded Pro-Immigration Group Jul 13, 2014
Their headline suggests that this is just the beginning of a highly orchestrated national effort: Event is Part of Nationwide Actions to Stop the Immigrant Lock-up Quota and Immigrant Detention This well financed email campaign was sent out from someone at Fitzgibbon Media, a progressive PR firm. 9 Year And High Heels?Jan 06, 2011
