Since the meltdown starting in 2007, average American

Maybe time to get serious about working on our problems? I'm referring to hammers and nails, not knives and Molotovs.

I'd start with complete election reform as the first step.

In addition to (IMHO)...

The elimination of political parties. (Imagine if politicians had to stand on their own two feet rather than hiding behind party politics. Imagine people who could no longer vote a straight party ticket.)

Institute term limits for Congress, Senate. (Encourage people who are truly interested in serving their country rather than saving their own jobs/career politicians.)

Reform politician benefits. (They should only be entitled to the same benefits the "lowliest" government employee receives.)

Those are some.... Feel free to add others! :)

I agree. Except, who can we elect that would ever - agree to work for election reform?

All those shady politicians (from either side) like things just the way they are. Which is to say, scr#wed up, bought-n-paid-for, dishonest, ol' boys' club, 1% in charge of the funding, etc.

Wage Gap: 1978 Average $48K, Average 2010 $33.7K.Aug 01, 2013
It's far worse if you look at the top 10% of that top 1%. Over the past 30 years ownership of our nation's means of production has become clustered in the hands of a few people, who have simply decided to pay us less and themselves more. Note that the wage gap has continued to grow dramatically since these data were gathered, which understate our crisis, which threatens the foundations of our nation itself. So, we're thinking about elections. What are we going to do about it? 3 ...

The MeltdownDec 10, 2016
Came across this video.  One of those things where you listen to what these people say and it makes you say "huh?".  Thank goodness there are more Americans who are smarter than these.  If Hillary was the person these groups supported, all I say is thank God America is filled with smarter people.  This is the kind of people Hillary supporters are. The second guy...can you really take him serious?  He says "this is not a dream, this is a nightmare".  Seriously dude? ...

Meltdown? Three Reactors In Japan In Danger.Mar 14, 2011
At lunch time, I heard that one of the reactor's rods are fully exposed. The other two are still only partially exposed.  They are still working furiously on trying to keep the rods cool. Is it a loosing battle?  I hope not. After the explosion at the second plant, and now the third one in danger, it's worse than expected.  They have had over 401 aftershocks and they are still continuing to have aftershocks up to 6.1.  I'm afraid for the people. There are over ...

Obama Is So Happy That Clinton's Meltdown Is TakingOct 31, 2016
This from the Washington Post, of all places: "Once the hope candidate, Obama in his final days faces a hopeless electorate." Barack Hussein Obama will go down in history as the very worst President this nation has ever had, one who presided over a shocking decline in this nation's standing in the world, the calamitous spread of Islamic extremism, a flood of illegal immigrants the like of which has never been seen before, an economy that has staggered through the worst "recovery" in histo ...

apparently off limits. In this 2007 video with a host who actually sympathizes with his political views, he takes a firm anti-abortion stance, no mention of when personhood begins though. No big scandal here, though; he obviously mainly thinks his faith wouldn't sell well and doesn't want to talk about it. Bush In 2007 Delivered Eerily Accurate Warning About Iraq UnrestSep 11, 2014
“To begin withdrawing before our commanders tell us we are ready would be dangerous for Iraq, for the region and for the United States,” Bush cautioned. He then ticked off a string of predictions about what would happen if the U.S. left too early. “It would mean surrendering the future of Iraq to Al Qaeda. “It would mean that we’d be risking mass killings on a horrific scale. “It would mean we allow the terrorists to establish a safe haven in Iraq to ...

Don't like social engineering? Think it's about paying for some slug to sit around swilling beer while you work? Think again. BTW, the 10 richest members of Congress, each worth hundreds of millions of dollars, all voted to extend the Bush tax cuts. The typical member is worth over $900,000, with incomes going up every year. Not a coincidence. Pubs: 7 of those 10 wealthiest are Democrats. What Is Your Average Electric Bill Every Month?Jan 05, 2010
I am so frustrated. My electric bill "automatically" goes up $20 or more in the winter. In the summer, I pay $78-80. In the winter $100-120. I called the electric company and they told me it's because we're in the house more often because it's cold out.  I think they're nuts and just don't want to check out the meter. They also stated my appliances could be too old or the gaskets aren't tight (checked before I called and they are tight) and the well pump could ...

Average Obamacare Deductible Will Jump 20% InJan 21, 2017
The average deductible for a silver plan through the Affordable Care Act, one of the law’s most popular health insurance plans, is projected to jump 20 percent to $3,703, according to a report from Avalere Health. Rep. Tom Price (R., Ga.), the nominee to lead the Department of Health and Human Services, said at his confirmation hearing that while many individuals have coverage through Obamacare, some of them are not getting the care they need because they cannot afford their deductible. ...

None Of Bernie's Proposals Will Raise Taxes For Average....smJan 25, 2016
Americans, except for the health care bill. I don't know many people who make more than $200,000 a year. So consider that 2.2% income tax alongside what comes out of your paycheck for your employer's health insurance and what an average visit to the doctor's office costs (and then imagine what it costs for x-rays and surgery and things of that nature, and heaven forbid you have a medical emergency). Is 2.2% really that high? I've been told Briton pays 10%. The top 2% of Amer ...

Average College Grad $24,000 In Debt; 1 In 10 Can't Find Any Work At AllMay 05, 2011
I've been watching all the news reports about the colleges that collect big financial aid money and then don't teach the students anything that helps them get a job. Some of them use what they call 'Guerilla Registration' where the students don't even know they've enrolled yet, but the colleges are getting paid. This is one place where ouro country needs to cut costs, not in a way that keeps the poor from being able to get an education, but by cutting out the fraud ...

"No Fair Wage For American Workers." Most American JobsDec 12, 2012
the people who hold them are getting wage cuts instead of increases. We're ALL in trouble. From the Washington Post: "The stagnation of wages has become an accepted fact across the political spectrum; conservative columnists such as Michael Gerson and David Brooks have acknowledged that workers’ incomes seem to be stuck." "Defenders of right-to-work laws argue that they improve a state’s economy by creating more jobs. But an exhaustive study by economist Lo ...

Obamacare Meltdown Has Arrived. Tennessee Is Ground Zero For Obamacare'sOct 07, 2016
last month the state insurance commissioner, Julie Mix McPeak, approved premium increases of up to 62% in a bid to save the exchange set up under the Affordable Care Act. “I would characterize the exchange market in Tennessee as very near collapse,” she said. Then last week BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee announced it would leave three of the state’s largest exchange markets—Nashville, Memphis and Knoxville. “We have experienced losses approaching $500 million over the course of ...

Anyway, I had never heard of this phenomenon, so when OP posted about I googled it of course and I just don't get it, I guess.  What does it all mean really, that a lot of people all look at the clock at the exact same time a day or that once you become aware of 11, you see it everywhere?  If it is a true phenomenon, then what is the point?  Why have everyone become aware ...

Daughter Starting CollegeApr 27, 2013
Hello all - my daughter will be starting college in the fall and we are in the process of trying to find financial aid. Does anyone have info on how to get grants? Is there usually a family income max that would allow/disallow anyone from getting a grant?
