Don't like social engineering? Think it's about paying for some slug to sit around swilling beer while you work? Think again. BTW, the 10 richest members of Congress, each worth hundreds of millions of dollars, all voted to extend the Bush tax cuts. The typical member is worth over $900,000, with incomes going up every year. Not a coincidence. Pubs: 7 of those 10 wealthiest are Democrats. (Just thought you'd like that one. :)

Below are 11 charts that show where the money goes and has been going in ever-increasing amounts as our national wealth has increased.

Politics in Washington is really all "about the money, stupid!" Not the slogans they throw at us to get us mad at each other. Not the Second Amendment, freedom of speech, religious issues--none of those. Not states rights. Not saving the country from the other party. Not abortion. Not gays.

But it absolutely is about the ongoing redistribution of income and making sure it continues.

(These figures are mostly from pre-2010 data--it's all worse now, for almost everyone at least.)

Check this out, check it elsewhere, then please get angry at your "representatives." It's really time. And for everyone's sakes, stand up and vote in November.

Social engineering? This is STATISTICAL engineering! - Holy moly. nm

Okay, first of all the basic premise stinks. Naturally, wealthy people do make a lot more than poor people. That's why we CALL some people "wealthy" and other people "poor", right?

Second, this is true in ALL societies, regardless of economic system. You should have seen how the Communist party leaders in the USSR and China lived compared to the peasants!! You'd see an even greater disparity than the one that you've cited, and if you think the Commie in-crowd was standing around in the bread lines or cramming 15 people in a one-bedroom flat, you need your head examined.

Third, you can't compare the top 1/100th of 1% to the lower 10% - in other words, you need to use similar ranges for your comparison - although even if you did it wouldn't say anything other than that there are rich people and poor people in any society.

Doh!

A lot of people would benefit from a course in statistics, and another in world economic history.

Big-time.

I'd appreciate it very much if you would not bring this sort of illogical GARBAGE onto the forum in the future. It might influence another ill-educated board member who may not know enough to see through it, even as transparently bad as it is.

Knowledge is a wonderful thing. Koolaid, not so much.

I realize this may require moving off a position. But the - nation got richer, but the workers who created

that wealth got poorer. And we know the money's been swept up into the pockets of a few.

So, if social engineering doesn't explain how most of that money flowed way uphill past millions of people into the pockets of about...oh, about 400 people!, what DOES explain it?!

And, for heaven's sake, what are you going to DO about it? Sit around here and complain that the non-conservative half of your fellow MTs caused all our problems?
Sounds like your posts to me, nothing but namecalling - and personal attacks - Just following your lead :D

Wage Gap: 1978 Average $48K, Average 2010 $33.7K.Aug 01, 2013
It's far worse if you look at the top 10% of that top 1%. Over the past 30 years ownership of our nation's means of production has become clustered in the hands of a few people, who have simply decided to pay us less and themselves more. Note that the wage gap has continued to grow dramatically since these data were gathered, which understate our crisis, which threatens the foundations of our nation itself. So, we're thinking about elections. What are we going to do about it? 3 ...

My HOA Hasn't Had Annual Meetings For 2 YrsSep 10, 2012
No one wants to be on the board, so one guy and the management company handle everything.  I've been on the board before and don't really want to do that again.  I think things are managed in an okay (not great) fashion, but I'm worried about not having annual meetings.  Is it worth creating a fuss about or should I just keep quiet since I'm not really willing to serve on the board.  Just wondering what others think. ...

What Is Your Average Electric Bill Every Month?Jan 05, 2010
I am so frustrated. My electric bill "automatically" goes up $20 or more in the winter. In the summer, I pay $78-80. In the winter $100-120. I called the electric company and they told me it's because we're in the house more often because it's cold out.  I think they're nuts and just don't want to check out the meter. They also stated my appliances could be too old or the gaskets aren't tight (checked before I called and they are tight) and the well pump could ...

Americans, except for the health care bill. I don't know many people who make more than $200,000 a year. Is 2.2% really that high? I've been told Briton pays 10%. The top 2% of Amer ...

Some of them use what they call 'Guerilla Registration' where the students don't even know they've enrolled yet, but the colleges are getting paid.
