Government is not the solution to income inequality. Government is the

Posted: Jan 10, 2016

How I wish that people knew more about the history of this nation, and about the expansion of government with more agencies, more laws, more regulations, more inspections, and other impediments to personal success that has occurred especially since the 1930s, and in which NONE of the parties in power have been blameless.

Folks, we now have officials shutting down lemonade stands and fining people for collecting rainwater from their own roofs.  If you have a koi pond in your back yard, the EPA wants to exercise authority over it as a "controlled body of water".

Try starting a business and begin to count the regulatory hoops you have to jump through, and the fees you have to pay.  Then, you find yourself in the realm of product liability, business taxation, and perhaps thousands of other regulations depending on the nature of your business.

Bernie Sanders seduces you to believe that government is the answer, when in fact government is one of the primary problems.  Ask him this question if you get the chance:

"Mr. Sanders, there are already X programs redistributing wealth, there are Y millions of pages of local, state and federal regulations and there are Z hundreds of thousands of government employees.  Why should I believe that X, Y or Z PLUS whatever you propose is the answer to my problems?  Just how much larger does the government need to be before your Utopia comes to pass?"

...and don't wait around for the answer because he won't have one.

The jack-boot of government has become oppressive - and prohibitive to personal advancement.

The federal government has become the oppressor-in-chief. Just do a spreadsheet of transactions involving a 20% gross profit earned every 3 months, in which you reinvest the profits and continue this for 10 years, starting with a small amount, say $1000.

Now, add a cell that takes out 25% of your profit with each transaction (because that's when the tax liability accrues), and another cell that takes out 10% to cover fees, attorney costs, business insurance, accounting and tax preparation (different from the other tax cell).

...and this spreadsheet omits any consideration of employees, presuming that you are the sole entrepreneur and sole employee. You don't have to get into that mess to know that your efforts are going to return damned little to you at the end of the 10 years.

The reason you feel a Jack boot on your throat is not... - sm

just the fault of the government. It is also the result of large corporations evading their tax responsibility and hiding their profits, enabled by expensive lawyers who know the loopholes and every trick in the book. Elect Bernie Sanders and he will help small businesses.

You know nothing about what corporations pay in a whole - range of fees, taxes, etc.

[ In Reply To ..]
Have you ever even looked at the financial statements of any corporation? If they're a public corporation (selling stock to the public), they're all available for your review. Take a gander at a few and see what they're paying.

Please, educate yourself OBJECTIVELY, and stop drinking the damned socialist Kool Ade! It's poison.

Speaking of poisoning and regulations - lets talk Flint Michigan's water
[ In Reply To ..]
So,do you not know anything about lead poisoning? Do you know why we have lead-free gas?

Rick Synder, Republican governor, is toast politically.

So, right here's an example of stinkin' thinkin' - and I'll explain.
[ In Reply To ..]
This is a common ploy. Mention stupid regulations or overbearing regulations or overreaching regulations and you can count on it as the night follows the day, someone will give an example of a sensible regulation and say...

"See!? See!? See!?"

So tiresome. So very VERY tiresome, and the absolute death of intelligent conversation.
Why would any minimum-wage worker (ie, MT) - support Corporate America?

where the Fed and the Pentagon have to undergo audits and be accountable to the American people. The power and corruption by Wall Street and big banks and investment firms needs to be stopped. The deck is stacked against the middle class in this country and big business is buying our elections for their own benefit. We need to end Citizens United and get foreign and big money out of US politics. None of these aims are radical. I am voting for Bernie Sanders because I think he tells the truth and has proven to be trustworthy. He is the president we need.

The system that Sanders promotes stinks of corruption from - its inception.

Got history? Get some.

...and will drive more corporations out of the country. - I'd leave, and so would you.

[ In Reply To ..]
People live in such weird fantasy worlds that it's simply impossible to get them to deal with reality.

There are already numerous countries that welcome corporations and are much less expensive for them to do business. You only have to keep up with the news to know that there's little incentive for corporations to move here...the incentive is for them to leave.

So, let's make that even more so, 'kay? REAL SMART.
Yea, it would be a wonderful thing for the Waltons... - nm

to leave the country and take Wal-Mart with them. In the long run it would save all of us a lot of money in corporate welfare. Do none of you people know how to do research to get accurate information? Also, do yourself a fab and go see "The Big Short" to learn the real story of how the banks and Wall Street, as well as the Bush administration, screwed us sent us down the tubes in 2008. Unbelievably, no one ever went to jail.

No, the system we have now stinks of corruption. nm - Wake up!

[ In Reply To ..]

Wake up yourself. Ever seen the corruption that exists - in socialist systems? Believe me
[ In Reply To ..]
...you ain't even seen nothing like that here in the US.

Grow up. Every governmental system is corrupt in one way or another. Wherever there is power, there is corruption of that power. It just a fact of life.

Lose the fantasies about some sort of Utopia, and spend your time and effort improving your own situation. Whether you care to believe it or not, THAT is your only hope and dancing along behind the Pied Piper will get you nothing but sore feet and disillusionment.

You need to open your mind. The people are happy and pretty much stress free. The safety net the government provides enables extraordinary innovation and a happy family life is paramount. There is very little money in politics. Democratic socialism is successfully practiced in all the Scandinavian countries. It is a system of controlled capitalism and a respect for all citizens.
They are still stuck on socialism=communism - and the failed communist states

and I've visited there often. They are all happier, healthier, more stress-free, and far wealthier there than here in the US. Most families own more than one home. There is enough work for everybody; they do not offshore. Homelessness is almost nonexistent, as there are far more programs to help people who are struggling there than the US can ever even dream of having. Top-notch healthcare is provided to all for free. Ditto for top-notch education. Those countries are cleaner, have very little crime, and gun ownership is rare. Theft is rare. Rape and assault are rare. Women and seniors aren't second class citizens, like they are in the US. Everyone there gets a fair shot at life. Yeah, democratic socialism sounds AWFUL. Uh huh.
