People in nursing homes have the most to fear from Ryan's plan

Posted: Apr 14, 2011

Those in nursing homes have the most to fear from Paul Ryan's plan, but their families will have to try to support them. That means they will give up (1) retirement funds including 401Ks, IRAs, (2) college funds , (3) homes (4) plans for the future. This is a cruel plan. The part that hurts the elderly effects me as I think of my parents and my grandmother, but it doesn't stop there.

And what happens when Medicare goes - bankrupt? Please do

the research and learn that it is not sustainable as it exists. But to hear the Dems talk, they can "fix it." So, they have had 2 years amd haven't done diddly. And how many times have we heard this from them before?

This coming from the party that stole my social security benefits.

Pleeasseee.

That scare tactic comes from the Republicans who have always wanted to shut down Medicare - America is better than that and we can make it wor

[ In Reply To ..]
Americans don't roll over and play dead when there are problems that need to be fixed, and they do it without hurting the vulnerable, unless cruel people are in charge. We usually try not to let that happen.

Umm....then how come in all the times Dems - have had the majority

[ In Reply To ..]
more than Republicans actually...that absolutely NOTHING has been done to fix Medicare? That we are running a 14 trillion dollar deficit, that you keep trying to ignore which makes me seriously doubt your credibility at ANY level....Democrats have done just that! roll over and play DEAF and/or dead. Have ignored the deficit and spend spend spend, now complain about Medicare while having done NOTHING to stop this from happening? Are you SERIOUS with this crap?

Hey...I am paying attention now. I know the Democrats are not my friends. And more and more and more people are begining to realize that, with the wonder of the internet and ability to actually check things out.

We are no longer listening to crap like this post...we are watching what you actually DO...and to this point it has been ZILCH, NADA, NOTHING.

When you have seriously addressed the issues instead of junior high finger pointing blaming it on the other guy, I might listen.

Until then, you are just embarrassing yourself.
Think "veto". Think "fillibuster". - nm
[ In Reply To ..]
They didn't TRY. So veto and filibuster - do not apply.
[ In Reply To ..]
And many of the times they had the majority, they also had the white house, so filibuster and veto don't apply there either.

When in doubt or refuse to see the truth, deny, deny, deny. Nothing if not predictable.
If we went to a flat tax, and cut out tax - loopholes, stopped giving SM

\"subsidies\" to corporations, we could come a long way to reducing the deficit. The thought of giving \"vouchers\" to the elderly who are nursing home residents is morally unacceptable, and anyone who thinks this is a good idea IMO has a real problem.

Unfortunately, I haven't had the time to read Ryan's bill, so I'm not sure exactly what is and isn't in it, but I'm hearing a lot of horrible things that are going to happen. The sky is falling!!!

The one thing I do know is that times are-a-changing.  There are just too many of us Baby Boomers. In just a few years, the Boomers will suck what little money is left in Medicare and SS.  Instead of relying on the government for your health and well-being, the thing to do would come under the heading of "personal responsibility" - i.e. long-term care insurance or some other plan.  Unfortunately, there are many older seniors who have lost their life savings to nursing home care over the years.

Why would anyone expect the government to take care of yourself or an aging family member? Of course, there are the exceptions to that, where the goverment needs to help those who cannot help themselves but, for crying out loud, the entitlement thing is just making me nuts!

I think that most Americans agree that something has to be done. There is no money. Period. All the money we have put in has been stolen. Gone forever.  If you would open the SS or Medicare "vault," you would find nothing but a bunch of IOUs.

What's Obama's plan to save SS and Medicare?  **crickets**  Thought so.

It's time for this congress to make the tough decisions that the previous congress feared making.  That's exactly what they were sent there to do.

Right before Bush was selected as president, Al Gore kept - talking about a "lock box."nm

Oh, yeah. He also said he didn't believe in nation building, yet we seem to be doing just that. I guess that's fair, though, since we invaded, occupied and bombed their infrastructure to smithereens, one of these wars the result of nothing but Republican LIES.

Nothing like someone who lies about lies.... - what does that make you?

[ In Reply To ..]
just askin'.

Unless all our allies are Republicans, you just lied about lies.

Incidentally, the guy who put together the intelligence, the CIA guy, George Tenet...left over from the DEMOCRAT Bill Clinton admin.

There is a liar here all right, but it is not a Republican...unless you are a Republican?
What does that make me? Simple. I'm someone who - reads your posts.sm

I heard Al Gore, his words from his mouth, continually campaign on putting Social Security into a "lock box," to the point where it became somewhat of a joke for comedians.

You called me a liar with nothing to back up your allegation, other than your imagination. Now, please tell me how I'm lying about this, or do you just go around calling people liars who don't agree with you? This is why posts like yours simply have no credibility.

Ryan's Medicare PlanAug 14, 2012
. . . the federal government's. If it's good enough for them . . . The NYT said Ryan has the same plan for Medicare as federal employees enjoy (published 04/18/2011). Also, Ryan wrote this: "Starting in 2022, new Medicare beneficiaries will be enrolled in the same kind of health care program that members of Congress enjoy." His op-ed about this was published in the WSJ. Sounds good to me! ...

Re. Nursing Home Patient(s)Oct 15, 2009
Several family members while in nursing homes have been approached by religious "Zealouts" trying to push the "right faith" by staff or so-called "visitors" on them. I am so sick of it! My Dad was presented with a Bible of different faith at 81 and dying. Now another member at 85 in failure was presented with 3 different "faiths" by the "staff" and I am enraged. Being asked questions by 85-YO as to what is "B'hai" and what is "Spiritualism." I am so sick of it. Keep your Bible(s) off their ...
