Those in nursing homes have the most to fear from Paul Ryan's plan, but their families will have to try to support them. That means they will give up (1) retirement funds including 401Ks, IRAs, (2) college funds , (3) homes (4) plans for the future. This is a cruel plan. The part that hurts the elderly effects me as I think of my parents and my grandmother, but it doesn't stop there.
;Unfortunately, I haven't had the time to read Ryan's bill, so I'm not sure exactly what is and isn't in it, but I'm hearing a lot of horrible things that are going to happen. The sky is falling!!!
The one thing I do know is that times are-a-changing. There are just too many of us Baby Boomers. In just a few years, the Boomers will suck what little money is left in Medicare and SS. Instead of relying on the government for your health and well-being, the thing to do would come under the heading of "personal responsibility" - i.e. long-term care insurance or some other plan. Unfortunately, there are many older seniors who have lost their life savings to nursing home care over the years.
Why would anyone expect the government to take care of yourself or an aging family member? Of course, there are the exceptions to that, where the goverment needs to help those who cannot help themselves but, for crying out loud, the entitlement thing is just making me nuts!
I think that most Americans agree that something has to be done. There is no money. Period. All the money we have put in has been stolen. Gone forever. If you would open the SS or Medicare "vault," you would find nothing but a bunch of IOUs.
What's Obama's plan to save SS and Medicare? **crickets** Thought so.
It's time for this congress to make the tough decisions that the previous congress feared making. That's exactly what they were sent there to do.
