[ In Reply To ..]
The lies, misinformation, incorrect intelligence about WMDs? How long did it take the Bush Administration to get that memo? Too late? Thousands killed, thousands maimed, thousands of families destroyed.

Not to mention the countless warnings about 9/11. Which happened on GW's clock. He pretty much allowed it to happen.

No terrorist attacks in US on BO's clock.

AND there's also the omission by Romney mentioning anything about our troop. No thanks, nothing.

Nice try! Anyone with a conscience and common sense - could not vote for Obama... coverup

NYC is a state that should have been protected within the USA.

Americans on American soil expect and deserve protection.

Thousands died and the Bush Adm used it, after allowing it to happen, as a segway to start a war that killed innocent people and American Soldiers.
Didn't know Saddam was innocent. Geez, I learn something new every day. - backwards typist
[ In Reply To ..]
Didn't know that the terrorists were innocent civilians...and you know, if you did your research, that Al Quaeda, Sadam, and the Taliban used citizens as shields.

You would know, if you did your research, that Saddam used WMDs on his own people, killing thousands.

You would know, if you did your research, that intelligence reports were all over the map, some stating imminent attack, some stating no problems. Clashes between the CIA and FBI because their communications were faulty - couldn't work together - was the major reason why nothing was done prior to 911. Just like Obama states that the reports were inconsistent, this is what happened during Bush's administration.

Why can't you read the reports? They're on line.

You can't keep denying the truth and/or hating like this. It's bad for your health.

Have a nice day.
Bush, Cheney, Rove all admitted there were no WMDs. - Why can't you?

Give it up, BT. Does not compute. It's called wisdom in hindsight. I find your blindness to more than 100,000 documented civilian deaths in Iraq absolutely appalling, yet not all that surprising, since your party cohorts seem to erroneously think the sanitized "collateral damage" term, all dressed up pretty in its Sunday best, is a big help when trying to hide all the carnage.

when they lose the election. I am the daughter of a WW II vet whose service in the intelligence arm of the military left him suicidal and severely mentally ill upon his return stateside. Back then, the VA treated him as an "embarrassment" to the military. He was institutionalized 3 weeks before my 7th birthday. I was too young to be included in the loop of family insiders authorized to utter the phrase "mental hospital," so was not told where he was. For 6 years, all I knew was he was gone. I thought he was dead.

In the meantime, they used him as a guinea pig for drug research, which included megadosing with LSD, further compounding his illness, which was misdiagnosed twice over a 15-year period, until they finally got it right. Advances in psychiatric medicines finally allowed him to be transferred from the Psychiatric wing of the VA to a nursing home where he lived out his days, dependent on caretakers.

HOW DARE YOU presume to know where I am and am not coming from? Veterans issues have plagued me my entire life.
I'm sincerely sorry about your dad. - backwards typist
[ In Reply To ..]
I can see where you are coming from and I'm not, in all sincerity, making light of this but that was a different era.

Back then, PTSD and shell-shock (what they called some illnesses), was to stay hidden and hush-hush. Mental illness was a horror to sane people. People not in the military but were mentally ill were also used as guinea pigs (forgive me for that wording) as well.

My father was in WWII, too, as were all my uncles. When my grandmother died of complications from an operation at 38, the Red Cross refused to help him get home for the funeral, yet others got help to get home for family illnesses. It was 2 years before he got to personally place flowers on her grave. My dad and my mother never forgave the Red Cross and never donated to them.

I know that isn't what your father went through, but the point I'm trying to make is that you just can't keep hating because of it. Should I hate the Red Cross because of something that happened in the '40s? I don't think so. Sometimes you just have to forgive and let go.
What are you talking about? - Kindly do not project YOUR hate onto me.
[ In Reply To ..]
Let me spell this out for you. I was his first child. From age zero to 7, my dad and I were inseparable. He took me to work with him from the time I was old enough to be propped up on his knee until I started school. I've posted about this before.

My family was wealthy. Not quite Romney wealthy, but plenty wealthy, enriched with money made from large zip-code-sized real estate holdings that were developed into low income commercial and residential dwellings in West Dallas, where whites were in the minority and about 75% was evenly split between blacks and Hispanics. He was an attorney who was a tireless advocate on behalf of the disadvantaged, an initiative that often required his presence at City Council public hearings. He took me with him to those, as well.

As a result, he instilled me with those values WAY before I was old enough to understand anything about the attendant political implications. My early identity was forged during those days I spent "on the wrong side of the tracks," far away from the blue-blood neighborhood where I lived. This was all done to the horror of the privileged "sensibilities" of my mom, my older half-sister (whose dad was killed in WW II and was my dad's best friend), aunts, uncles, cousins, neighbors and family friends, all of whom stuck their noses into his business every chance they got to let him know what a disservice he was doing to his child who would never understand the finer points of their unabashed Southern bigotry. Naturally, he was dubbed black sheep, which also played a roll in the deterioration of his mental state. For adopting those values, I inherited that label as an adult. It's affected my relationships with my family ever since.

This is not just about me. After he left, my mom (the unacceptable Yankee in the woodpile) was a single parent with four kids....also not "fashionable" back then. She was constantly derided for her parenting and family members even threatened to try to get custody of us. Two years later, she uprooted us and moved down to Houston (THANK GOD) into a middle class neighborhood. More family horror! Of the four of us kids, my little brother suffered the most. He was barely one year old when my dad left, so he was raised without a dad. I've posted about him before too. He was very accomplished in the brief time we had with him (28 years), but unbeknownst to us all, he was gay, lived his life in the closet and committed suicide via drug overdose. My mom did an excellent job without much help from the family, especially after she DARED to divorce him 7 years into his institutionalization after 17 years of marriage. They screwed her in the divorce with a $5000 "pay-out" for her "share" of the house (which later sold for $4.2 million) and sent her $50 per month by court order for each child until such time we turned 18. It was a high price to pay to take her life back. In spite of this, she did a good job raising us while working full time until poor health forced her into early retirement at age 61 on a fixed SS income and a barely adequate pension that probably would have been more workable had she been paid the same income as men make during her 25 loyal years to the company. Thank God for Medicare, which allowed her to reach age 80.

BTW, it was extremely difficult for me and my sisters to simply "pick up where we left off" once my dad was transferred to the nursing home. My brother never got a crack at it. He was already gone, since my dad was not released from the VA until 3 years after he committed suicide. Fortunately, my own son did have a chance to know his uncle, just long enough to embody great respect and love for him, but he too is a product of the family dysfunctionality that we have dealt with our entire lives behind wealth, greed, pretense, and their inability to come to terms with the realities of mental illness. He's 35 now and still struggles with all of it, despite my best efforts to shield him from those attitudes while he was growing up.

My own attitudes toward veterans politics are not simply hungover guilt and shame from the dark ages, anymore than the rest of my liberal politics is. I have ALWAYS used politics as a way to honor my dad and to cope with the aftermath of his tragic story and the INTENSELY PERSONAL life experiences that ensued OVER DECADES as a result of it all. Politics is the only place I have to take those lessons he taught me. It's been a very, very valuable tool I use to cope with it and to keep my own sanity intact.

To be clear, this is all about my love for him and my son, and my own personal life's experiences, not YOUR hatred for my political beliefs.

Your hatred stands all on its own-- - IF your story is true -think you

ROMNEY-RYAN HAVE NO PLAN FOR VETERANS

Ryan’s 98-Page Summary Of His FY 2013 Budget Plan, “The Path To Prosperity,” Fails To Mention The Word “Veteran” Even Once. [House Budget FY2013, “The Path To Prosperity,” 3/20/12]

ROMNEY SUGGESTED PRIVATIZING VETERANS HEALTH CARE

Romney’s Suggestion Of Using A Voucher System For Veterans’ Health Care “Echoed” Portions Of His Medicare Plan. “He also briefly floated the idea of using a voucher system to help veterans get reliable and quality health care, an option that echoed portions of a Medicare plan he recently rolled out at the Americans for Prosperity Foundation’s annual summit.” [New York Times, 11/11/11]

Krugman: Romney’s “Voucherization” Of The VA Would Leave Veterans Who Don’t Make Enough Money To Cover Health Care Costs On Top Of What The Voucher Covers Unable “To Receive Essential Care.” “Mitt Romney wants to privatize the VA. This is awesome on multiple levels. First, you know what voucherization would mean in practice: the vouchers would be inadequate, and become more so over time, so that veterans who don’t make enough money to top them up would fail to receive essential care. Patriotism!” [Krugman, New York Times, 11/12/11]

Veterans Of Foreign Wars “Doesn’t Support Privatization Of Veterans Health Care.” “In South Carolina today, Mitt Romney suggesting opening up public veterans benefits to private competition by instituting a voucher system for soldiers to find their own coverage. Asked about the idea, Veterans Of Foreign Wars spokesman Jerry Newberry quickly shot it down as a non-starter for his group. ‘The VFW doesn’t support privatization of veterans health care,’ he told TPM. ‘This is an issue that seems to come around every election cycle.’” [Talking Points Memo, 11/11/11]

THE ROMNEY-RYAN BUDGET COULD CUT THE VA BY 19% – A CUT OF $11 BILLION

The Ryan Budget Makes Steep Cuts To Veterans While Failing To Balance The Budget Before 2040.“Ryan’s controversial plan makes steep cuts even to popular spending categories, such as veterans benefits and transportation. Opponents have said it would disproportionately harm the elderly, the poor and the middle class and would turn Medicare into a voucher system. Even with the tough medicine, the Ryan plan doesn’t balance the budget until 2040.” [Mankato Free Press, 8/11/12]

The Ryan Budget Would Cut Domestic Discretionary Spending By 19 Percent, And “Since The House Has Refused To Specify What Would Be Cut, We Consider The Impacts If The Cuts Are Distributed Equally Across The Budget.” “Yesterday, House Republicans released their budget resolution for FY 2013… On top of the roughly $1 trillion in cuts in the Budget Control Act, it would be difficult to overstate the radicalism of the domestic cuts proposed by the House budget resolution. In 2013, it would cut annual non-defense funding by 5 percent. By 2014, the resolution would cut this funding by 19 percent in purely nominal terms. Over a decade, the resolution would cut over $1 trillion in non-defense spending on top of the reductions the President has already signed into law. The cuts in non-defense discretionary funding are nearly three times as deep as the cuts under the so-called sequester — cuts that we and most objective analysts have always regarded as an unwise and unacceptable. What would it all mean? The Budget doesn’t say. In fact, the Budget resolution includes a magic asterisk — or, in more technical parlance, an ‘allowance’— for $897 billion in unspecified cuts. But what could the resolution mean? Since the House has refused to specify what would be cut, we consider the impacts if the cuts are distributed equally across the Budget. The result would be that.” [Jeff Zients, Acting Director of the Office of Management and Budget, WH.gov, 3/21/12]

ROMNEY CALLED FOR CUTTING 145,000 GOVERNMENT WORKERS LARGELY EMPLOYED IN DEFENSE, VETERANS AFFAIRS, AND HOMELAND SECURITY

Romney Called For Cuts To The Government Workforce Saying “We Have 145,000 More Government Workers Under This President. Let’s Send Them Home And Put You Back To Work.” Romney: “That stimulus he [President Obama] put in place — it didn’t help private sector jobs, it helped preserve government jobs. And the one place we should have shut back — or cut back — was on government jobs. We have 145,000 more government workers under this president. Let’s send them home and put you back to work.” [Romney Rally, Craig CO, 5/29/12]

The 145,000 Jobs Romney Referred To Were Increases In Defense, Veterans Affairs And Homeland Security Personnel. “If we assume that Romney was actually referring to federal government jobs, not all government jobs, then the claim of a 145,000 increase since January 2009 is accurate. (The May data released on June 1 dropped the figure slightly, from 146,000 to 143,000.) But as we have written, much of that increase has come in areas that Romney says he wants to bolster as president, such as defense (80,000 additional jobs), veterans affairs (38,000) and homeland security (20,000). Presumably he would think such increases are a good thing — not jobs he would want to eliminate.” [Fact Checker, Washington Post, 6/4/12]

Don't know where you got the other info but I'll be checking it out. Here's Romney's plan (and if you would take the time to check, you'd see that a lot of your talking points are lies):

OVERVIEW
One of the most sacred responsibilities of Commander-in-Chief is to honor America’s obligations to our veterans. President Obama has had nearly four years to fix endemic problems with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Unfortunately, mismanagement on the part of the Obama Administration has led to serious shortcomings in veterans’ care. In addition to the President’s massive defense cuts –which could force 200,000 troops out of uniform and onto an overburdened VA—the backlog of disability claims has doubled, veteran unemployment is at unacceptable levels, there are critical problems with GI Bill payouts, and the wait time to see a mental health care provider can be up to two months long. In his last budget, the President asked military members and veterans to take $12 billion more in out-of-pocket TRICARE payments while he exploded spending elsewhere in the budget.

Mitt Romney believes we must do better. To ensure the VA lives up to its noble motto, “to care for him who shall have borne the battle,” Mitt will institute reforms to the VA aimed at unclogging bureaucratic inefficiencies and mismanagement. He will hold VA leaders accountable for poor performance. His economic reforms could create up to 12 million new jobs, ensuring veterans have the dignity of a job. And he will reverse President Obama’s massive defense cuts, that could cripple our Armed Forces, overwhelm the VA, and have a dire impact on our economy and our national security.

To date, Governor Romney has received the endorsement of nearly 30 American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars National Commanders, an overwhelming show of support from the highest ranks of America’s veterans community.

Key Elements of Mitt’s Plan

Every veteran is the greatest of his generation. Institute positive reforms that honor our end of the bargain with America’s returning warriors.

Unclog the Department of Veterans Affairs. Focus on providing top quality care, rather than growing an inefficient bureaucracy. Hold administrators accountable for poor performance and direct resources to programs that directly benefit veterans.

Expand the reach of the VA health system to better service the 41 percent of veterans that live in rural areas. Speed the availability of Internet-based consultations, tele-homecare, and tele-monitoring.

Institute a reliable electronic health record, from boot camp to retirement, thus reducing the disability claim backlog.

Grant all veterans using the GI Bill in-state tuition, regardless of their state of residency.

Ensure that veterans receive credit for their military training when seeking trade credentials at the state and national levels, allowing veterans to bypass expensive and time-consuming state credentialing requirements for training they’ve already received.
Stop and reverse President Obama’s massive defense cuts, which could force up to 200,000 troops out of uniform and onto the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Allow distressed veterans seeking mental health care to access the military’s TRICARE network of providers at the VA’s expense. This would double the number of mental health care providers overnight and reduce wait times.

Frequently Asked Questions About Mitt’s Plan

Does Governor Romney want to privatize the Department of Veterans Affairs?
Absolutely not. President Obama proposed privatization of the VA in 2009; Mitt Romney strongly rejects this approach. He will instead focus his efforts on making the VA work better for veterans, cleaning up an entrenched bureaucracy, rewarding positive results and holding failed leaders accountable. Our returning warriors deserve no less than top quality care, provided in a timely and efficient manner. It’s time for real leadership that is committed to tackling the VA’s endemic problems.

Is it true the Paul Ryan budget cut Veterans Benefits?
The Washington Post falsely reported that the Ryan budget cut Veterans benefits, and it immediately issued a correction. Not only did Paul’s plan meet the White House’s request for veterans spending, it actually increased it over a ten year period. Both Mitt and Paul believe that it is unconscionable that President Obama would propose cutting the military while growing the rest of the federal government. In a Romney-Ryan Administration, our troops and our veterans will come first.

Does “Sequestration” impact Veterans?
Unfortunately, the devastating, across-the-board cuts in sequestration will impact what’s known as “administrative” accounts in the Department of Veterans Affairs, though veterans are directly protected. Those cuts could harm veterans’ ability to efficiently interact with the VA. President Obama’s massive defense cuts are already forcing 100,000 troops out of service and onto an overloaded VA. Sequestration could double that number, forcing another 100,000 returning warriors from the front lines to the unemployment lines. Both Mitt and Paul strongly oppose the President’s reckless cuts to our military budget, and will reverse those cuts as soon as they take office.

She thinks PTSD started with the Iraq War. WRONG! She's old enough to know that this is a new NAME for battle fatigue, shell shock, and other names that commonly occurred in all wars with veterans. Does she really belong on an Intelligence Committee?????  She should do some research before trying to put all veterans in the mentally ill group. Heck, she doesn't even know what is considered an assault weapon, so hopefully, her bill won't see the light of day vote-wise. Watch h ...

How America Treats Illegal Aliens Vs. VeteransMay 24, 2014
A government that fails to secure its borders is guilty of dereliction of duty. A government that fails to care for our men and women on the frontlines is guilty of malpractice. A government that puts the needs of illegal aliens above U.S. veterans for political gain should be prosecuted for criminal neglect bordering on treason. Compare, contrast and weep: In Sacramento, Calif., lawmakers are moving forward with a budget-busting plan to extend government-funded health insurance to at lea ...

Democrats Side With Union Boss Over Veterans In VAApr 13, 2017
Firing Offense: Democrats are constantly bleating about the need to better serve the nation's veterans. Yet when it comes down to it, they would rather bow to their union masters than allow the VA to fire workers who aren't doing their jobs. The proof is the Democrats' fervent opposition to a simple reform being pushed by Republicans — the VA Accountability First Act. This bill would let the Veterans Affairs secretary fire someone and not have to wait a month for the person t ...

Rep. Betty McCollum is out to get rid of the Pentagon's sponsorships for NASCAR teams says she won't back away from her efforts and, despite GOP resistance, will broaden her fight to repeal tax breaks for track owners, too. In an interview, McCollum said it doesn't make sense to keep the benefits for NASCAR teams and track owners when other cuts are being made to community health care, programs for homeless veterans and Head Start. "I started to look at what is in this large def ...

U.S. Senate Republicans Block Veterans' Health BillFeb 28, 2014
"With Democrats pressing for passage this week, Senate Republicans, backed by their leader, Mitch McConnell, attempted to attach controversial legislation calling for possible new sanctions on Iran that President Barack Obama opposes."   "The legislation had the backing of most veterans' organizations, but was doomed by deep disagreements between Democrats and Republicans that have made this Congress one of the least productive in decades. Sanders, an independent who caucu ...

Huckabee And Santorum To Join Trump At Veterans RallyJan 28, 2016
I have opinions about the debate debacle, but this is a very good thing, bringing attention to veterans when everyone is focused on presidential debates, caucuses, primaries, Bernie's ignorance with regard to socialism and Hillary's life as a career criminal. ...

Fox Host's Book Title Implies Swift Boat Veterans Were LiarsDec 10, 2009

Bush attempts to salvage his tarnished legacy, Fox News Radio host John Gibson has eagerly joined in the effort to rehabilitate the previous administration's image. Gibson, the author of Hating America and The War on Christmas, has a new book out titled How the Left Swiftboated America: The Liberal Media Conspiracy to Make You Think George W. Bu ...
