Obamacare has been compared to the VA a lot. - This is an enlightening article.

I know the left won't read it, though.

Really? - Seriously

Metaphor or not, I think this is rather an insult to Veterans. If Mr. Root is "a Veteran," and "We Are All Veterans Now," then by his logic, I guess we are all Vegas sports handicappers because, quoting Wayne: "Winning Is EVERYTHING!"

http://www.winningedge.com/handicappers/wayne/1/

Mr. Root, or anyone actually, can characterize the ACA a.k.a. Obamacare as government run healthcare like the VA a million times, but repeating a falsehood over and over does not make it true. Americans are free to select their healthcare from any provider they choose or multiple providers if they choose, that are available on the free market. It is true that the ACA does now require that people have coverage and sets minimum standards of coverage that the private insurance companies have to provide (not unlike mandated automobile insurance laws). Indeed, most people still have employer provided coverage as they always did. To characterize private health insurance in such a manner is disingenuous and patently untrue. And the people telling everyone this know it, and they're hoping you don't find out the truth. Their consultant, Frank Luntz, wrote a 28-page memo telling them to call it a "government takeover," and they have been more than happy to mischaracterize it ever since they got the talking points memo.... because, well, haven't you heard......... "Winning Is EVERYTHING?"

If you've ever felt that creepy feeling and disconnect between what Republican politicians say about the ACA and what is the truth...... well, that's because your suspicions are absolutely correct. They're set with their healthcare and salaries and pensions paid for with your tax dollars (and automatic raises they've already voted themselves). They're not so much concerned with your receipt of affordable health care, they just want to feed you words that drive their political agenda of keeping the status quo. Don't believe me? Read the Republican talking points on health care:

http://wonkroom.thinkprogress.org/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/frank-luntz-the-language-of-healthcare-20091.pdf

Contrary to their disingenuous rhetoric, the ACA is not government run health care, and they know that. They just hope you don't catch on. The VA system, yes, and Medicare/Medicaid are absolutely government run, and I personally think there is enough blame to go around to both parties for the problems with those systems and that to politicize it and blame one party or the other is nonproductive.... and, yes, my health care is Tricare Prime and the VA system, and I will take those systems over the bloated top-heavy private system any day of the week, but that is my choice, and I am certainly free to buy any insurance I want (literally thousands of choices out there) as long as I have coverage, and if you think it's Obama's fault and the ACA is the same thing and that we're all Veterans, well, you are, of course, entitled to your opinion, even if the facts are neglected and tossed by the wayside in the process of scoring political points in their favor but against your best interests.

Time will tell. - nm

I thought the Democrats were set with their healthcare and salaries and pensions paid for with your tax dollars, automatic raises they've already voted themselves, too.

I'm shocked that only the Republicans are only getting the above health care, salaries and pensions.. Where does that leave the Democrats? Is that why they're mad [for being left out of the mix]? Is that the real problem why they won't work with Republicans?

Oh my. I didn't know that. Thought all of Congress had the same benefits. Thanks for setting me straight.

LIBS on here so seriously stupid and fact challenged - theycan't even get their insults right

Message you responded to is the poster child for why the Dems are so inept at everything.
But they do seem to be able to....... - Think about it.

Actually make a point without resorting to name calling (even if you disagree with their opinion). It's kind of refreshing to see that here on this board.

Taking someone's opinion and adding words and then accusing them of being insulting is very telling, but it says more about you than it does about them.

I agree with your post. Also the poster you replied to is incorrect - sm

No matter how much they try and keep spewing the false mantra of it not being a government run healthcare system it most certainly IS. Again, The ACA IS MOST CERTAINLY a government run healthcare system. ACA is run by the Feds. There are a ton of links out there. With a little research they would find this. The Feds is a government run agency, hence if the Feds are running the ACA it is a government run healthcare system. What part of that are they not understanding?

It doesn't matter whether or not you can pick your own doctor. That is not what makes something government run or not. For instance my healthcare is VA, which is a government run healthcare, yet I can still pick my own doctor, so for anyone to say that it's not government run because you can pick your own doctor is totally absurd.

And yes..you are correct. The politicians who like to call themselves democrats ARE set with their healthcare and salaries and pensions paid for by us. Oh yeah, and those automatic raises they pass for themselves after hours behind closed doors when they think nobody is paying attention. Why do you think we have the Kartrashians being thrown in our faces every 15 minutes.

Additionally, the insurance companies are getting a huge govt bail out. So where is all the outrage now from everyone who wanted the insurance companies CEOs to suffer. They have it better than before. I guess now it's okay that insurance companies, CEOs are richer than before because it's Obama that's giving them all that money. If it was President Bush there would be screaming, shouting and even worse.
If the ACA is government run health care....... - Question
[ In Reply To ..]
Then the hundreds of free market insurance companies must now be part of the government. How exactly can the government be getting a government bailout from itself?

Maybe that's why there's no outrage.

Actually, You Are Correct - Seriously

All the politicians are set with those things, and I certainly would never say the Republicans were the "only" ones, when they are obviously and certainly not. Adding the word "only," a word which I didn't actually use, and then insulting me for saying it is an interesting idea but certainly not something we haven't seen on this board over and over ad nauseum.

It's not that the Republicans are the only ones with health care, it's just that the Republicans/Tea Party are for the most part the only ones trying to deny health care and mischaracterize it and kill it for those who don't have it without really offering anything different to replace it. If the majority of the country liked that idea, I suspect we'd have a President Romney.
If the democrats were so concerned about VA they would have tried fixed it - another poster
[ In Reply To ..]
The system has been broken for a long time. The democrats have done nothing to try and help fix it.
Nothing at All - Seriously
[ In Reply To ..]
Tried to fix it? You have to love the Republicans new line of attack that the Democrats are doing nothing to help Veterans. Vote "No" on bill after bill after bill for Veterans and then point the finger and say something along the lines of: "See, nothing's getting done."

H.R. 466: Wounded Veteran Job Security Act

H.R. 1168: Veterans Retraining Act

H.R. 1171: Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program Reauthorization

H.R. 1172: Requiring List on VA Website of Organizations Providing Scholarships for Veterans

H.R. 1293: Disabled Veterans Home Improvement and Structural Alteration Grant Increase Act of 2009

H.R. 1803: Veterans Business Center Act

H.R. 2352: Job Creation Through Entrepreneurship Act

Do you maybe see the disconnect here with what Republican politicians say versus what they actually do?
No, they do not see the disconnect. - sm

There are a LOT of things they don't see, and why in the world they would vote against their own best interests is something I'll never understand.

What About Iraq War Veterans Committing Suicide??? May 29, 2012
I just watched a TV documentary about new war veterans coming back from Iraq.  They say that every day at least 28 veterans are committing suicide.  This is truly shocking news.  I am wondering if their statistics are really accurate.  They say that only 33% are approved to receive PTSD benefits.  There is not enough money in their budget to approve all the claims.  I used to transcribe Veteran's health care reports and know that there are many mental heal ...

How America Treats Illegal Aliens Vs. VeteransMay 24, 2014
A government that fails to secure its borders is guilty of dereliction of duty. A government that fails to care for our men and women on the frontlines is guilty of malpractice. Democrats Side With Union Boss Over Veterans In VAApr 13, 2017
Firing Offense: Democrats are constantly bleating about the need to better serve the nation's veterans. Yet when it comes down to it, they would rather bow to their union masters than allow the VA to fire workers who aren't doing their jobs. This bill would let the Veterans Affairs secretary fire someone and not have to wait a month for the person t ...
