A community of 30,000 US Transcriptionist serving Medical Transcription Industry

Oh my gosh. The public is starting to open up.

Posted: Mar 23, 2010

I went to grocery store, stood in line and cashier asks how am I doing?  I stated, "DISGUSTED WITH WHAT IS GOING ON WITH OUR GOVERNMENT."  Remind you, this is a very democratic state and democratic city I live in.

This good looking guy next to me standing in line holding gorgeous flowers stated, "You and me both."  "I am a doctor and I am leaving along with others and we are considering Canada."  I looked at him and stated, "I am a medical transcriptionist and my pay has been cut in half and most health care records are done in India."  He stated, "GET OUT!"  "GET OUT OF HEALTH CARE IF YOU CAN."

The lady next to him stated, "Yep, get out of health care and run."  We have a bunch of socialists running America to the ground, especially someone like Emanual telling our president what to do."  "I certainly hope this president will not be running another term and from the looks of it, he will not be."

The guy next to the woman states, "Do you seriously think this president will even be in office in the next month or two?"  Some laughed.  Then the next row standing in line to the cashier started in with comments.  It was unreal!!!!  Unbelievable!!!

I left and the doctor stated doctors will be leaving to other countries.  They will not be able to afford their insurance premiums nor will they be able to even give the good quality of care to the patients who need it which is the main reason doctors will be leaving and that I should get out of the health care field and looking into something else and if he could, he would himself, but it is too late and his only choice is to move out of the country.

talking about how the numbers dont add up and this will totally bankrupt everything. Gosh, this is depressing. Now, Obama wants to introduce the Climate Bill. Is he nuts or what?

To answer your question... - nmmt

YES, he is nuts and dangerous. I could see that before the election but it seems many were blinded by his bright smile and slick demeanor. Maybe his demanding, "it's my country, not your's" demeanor will wake the sleeping masses...but I doubt it.

Canada? What a joke. Every civilized country....sm - oldtimer

has healthcare similar to what was just passed in the US.

And they're not happy with theirs either...LOL - nmmt

and they have a waiting line. Oh boy..just look what most people can look forward to. Thanks Orama...You rammed it to us. ;)

That is why it is not credible...sm - oldtimer

that a doctor would say he is going to Canada because the US healthcare bill was passed. Canada has a single-payor system, much more restrictive for docs then even our new bill. It is time for people to smarten up and use there power of reasoning before believing everything they hear or read.

You know, I always thought that way too about Canadian health care. I had read so much on it, and then I have a friend living outside of Toronto who had an awful experience, which reinforced it for me, and one in England whose experience was so horrific it left me speechless. But last November we went to St. Lucia on vacation. St. Lucia is a british virgin island, so we met a lot of people from England and Ireland mostly. They all, without exception, had only good things to say about their health care. And they all commented about how backward they feel the US for the system that we have. I find it interesting that the citizens of other countries know so much about ours and seem so invested in what happens in America. Also met one physician from Canada, who I really spent a lot of time talking to, and he is very happy practicing in Canada. He says their system allows him to get to know his patients better as he spends more time with them. Since they are paid by their government as a salary, they don't have to see more patients to earn more money. their salary is what it is no matter how many patients. He did say they earn less than docs in the US but said he still earned a very good living. He did say some wait times are longer but only in the case of things that actually could wait. Heart patients, cancer patients, and those that cannot wait, do not. I was very reassured after speaking to him. I think, however, it may not be so smooth here for quite a while since they have had a long time to tweak their system and as any new system such as we will be dealing with has to work out the bugs so I do fear we will have some horror stories along the way. I have this problem that I have always had - I am seeing both sides and can't decide which one I think is better. Both have up sides and both have serious pitfalls. Yup, it's going to get even MORE interesting.
I have had similar experiences....sm - oldtimer

I travel pretty extensively and have had conversations with a great many people from other countries, the great majority from Canada and the British isles, Spain, Italy and France too. To a person, no one has had a horror story, can't understand what all the fuss is about, and says not to believe the "lies" that are being circulated for political reasons. I have no doubt that there are complaints out there but, overall, the people that I have met seem to be happy with the healthcare they receive. As you said, for something urgent, there is literally no wait, and for physicals and other nonurgent things you may have to wait a few weeks or months, much the same as I have experienced where I live.
Thanks for your post and the poster above. - I think U.S. doctors

feel they will not be able to give good quality care for their patients in the United States and besides, are other countries trillions in debt? Seriously! Don't the other countries have money to have universal coverage versus United States?

in medicine for the money not for their worry about not being able to give good care. The docs I know, rural, welcome the new bill.
Well I am leaving my profession, since my pay - has been cut in half.

Do you know how much it costs to become a doctor and hours/time spent and school loans to pay?

My 2 doctors did leave their practice. One moved clear across the United States because they knew that their current hospital will not be able to afford the quality of care.

Yeah, sure they support it. I know several "caring" - doctors -all HATE this bill.nm

Regardless, all have been giving their citizens healthcare for many years. What could be wrong with a plan that gives everyone healthcare and reduces the deficit? Please, give it a chance!

as they do in other countries such as Canada or England is because we spend more on defense than most other countries. That's one of the reasons we have the finest military in the world. Like it not, we are the leaders of the free world, and one of the reasons is because we carry a big stick, which costs money.

Please say which grocery store. I could use shorter lines. - nm

Safeway. The lines in the small town are short! - Moved out of Phoenix.

The lines in PHX were horrible. By the time I waited in line and checked out, my ice cream was already melting, LITERALLY. I always had to the put the ice cream, milk, and some chocolate in a cooler that I had in the car. Ice cream was always to soft and dripping by the time I got home.

Now I moved to green country and LOVE IT. People much more nicer and small town living, yet still near a city with lots of democrats.

So here's the story.  I left MT and now work in a rural hospital.  I really enjoy my job and find most of my responsibilities immensely satisfying.  My co-workers are a great bunch of people, and my manager is cool.  Surprisingly, my MT knowledge comes into play every day!  Overall, the transition from the isolation of MT to pretty intense interaction with both patients and staff has been amazing...except... From the beginning, the employees from another department ...

Daughter Starting CollegeApr 27, 2013
Hello all - my daughter will be starting college in the fall and we are in the process of trying to find financial aid. Does anyone have info on how to get grants? Is there usually a family income max that would allow/disallow anyone from getting a grant? I know I will need to talk to the college's financial aid office but any info that can be passed along would be appreciated. Starting New Thread On Health Care DebateJan 05, 2012
Previous thread getting too indented and confusing.  The thread began with the question "If you are against Obama health care law, who should pay for the uninsured?"  It boils down to either the individual is required to pay or the taxpayer will pay.  We have lots of personal anecdotes and generalized "should" statements, grievances against the government and vague "individual basis" which means, I guess, do nothing.  I came away with the opinion that conservatives are saying ...

Health Care- Pre-exisiting Conditions Program Starting NowJul 01, 2010

The catch: Preminiums will be a stretch for many even after government subsidies.  You must have been uninsured for at least 6 months.  Congress allocated $5B to the program but it could well run out in 2011. Premimiums are varied and estimated to cost a 50 yo in CA $575 a month wit ha $1500 deductible in CA. States with lower medical costs could be ...
