Obamacare is failing even as rate hikes jump.

Posted: Aug 10, 2016

Well, we had to pass it to find out what was in it, right? It's been one disaster after another, one calamitous miscalculation after another, one misguided assumption after another. The socialist siren song, as always, leading the gullible onto the rocks that line the shores of Gimme-Gimme-Gimme Land. See link.;

Obama gave money to insurance companies (illegally) to be sure - those on Ocare were covered and

[ In Reply To ..]
to be compliant with all the things they have to cover. It's really Medicaid. Let's just call it what it is.

I just read Illinois insurers seek premium hikes of 45% just to stay in compliance with all things they have to cover. In a way I'm glad. They wanted these mandates, they got the mandates (Obama promised to pay them if they went along with it), so let them pay the price tag now!

I would bet Obama got a lot of "contributions" - from insurance companies

[ In Reply To ..]
This was Obama's "gift" (payback) to insurance companies in exchange for contributions (bribes) from the insurance lobby.

Obama would have preferred single payer or, at least, a public option. nm - VTMT

Over at The Motley Fool, Sean Williams has a lengthy analysis of - Obamacare's many woes, but

[ In Reply To ..]
the meat of the matter comes down to two things -- a lack of money and a lack of healthy paying customers.

Obamacare was expected to enroll 21 million new people by the end of 2016...Currently, this figure is about 10 million shy of the CBO's projections from three years ago, and it could fall further as attrition due to non-payment continues.

Obamacare enrollees have also tended to be a costlier, sicker group of individuals. According to a large analysis conducted by the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, Obamacare enrollees cost, on average, 22% more per month than persons enrolled in an employer-sponsored health plan. This probably isn't too much of a shock considering that prior to Obamacare there were rules in place that allowed insurers to turn away people with pre-existing conditions.

Under Obamacare, insurers can't do this anymore, meaning sicker individuals have been among the first to enroll, leaving insurers with an adverse patient pool.

The risk corridor has also been an utter failure.

You were warned, repeatedly, before ObamaCare was even signed into law, that its perverse incentives would lead to a insurance pool too small and too old and too sick to be sustainable.

A New Mexico health insurer is suing the Obama - administration, claiming rules

[ In Reply To ..]
implemented under the Affordable Care Act require the insurer to pay millions annually to a competitor...

That is EXACTLY what happened in Atlas Shrugged. It is utter lunacy.

It's working as designed - to bankrupt insurance companies and only have - "single payer" AKA Medicare for all

govt run healthcare.

We are paying the fine in my house. WE about a discount plan and it's still better than going on OCare.

Collectivism. It only works on the chalkboard.

I wish it were true but the insurance lobby is too powerful. nm - VTMT

Healthy people have figured out that health insurance - is not worth the cost and are

willing to take the risk. Most of them will be rewarded handsomely.

We have changed our diet, don't eat junk, no soft drinks, chips, candy or cereal. We eat mostly lean meat and lots of veggies.

"Healthy" people get sick or have accidents all the time. nm - VTMT

or a $300,000 CABG? You are very fortunate if you can do it without insurance and not go bankrupt.

Obamacare Is Failing From Behind... His Goals For ObamacareJul 20, 2016
1) Have it collapse so that single payer can be implemented amidst the ensuing chaos. 2) Have that happen on somebody else’s watch. Obamacare was designed to fail so the Democrats could “reform” it with complete government provided socialized medicine. That is the entire purpose for it. Obamacare is designed to collapse so they can backfill the vacuum with government run socialized medicine. Eventually, everyone will be on some form of Medicare. I believe that was one of Bernie’ ...

As Predicted, Obamacare Failing But At A Stunning Pace.Apr 16, 2016
Obamacare has missed virtually every promise made for it (not a few of which were known to be unfounded at best or outright lies at worst when they were made). I doubt this comes as any real surprise to even its most ardent supporters because the math never made the slightest sense whatsoever. But even the most outspoken critics of this half-baked cockamamie scheme could hardly have predicted the precipitous speed at which the wheels would come off. Or maybe they were always intended to com ...

At Least Six Swing States Face Double Digit Premium HikesAug 17, 2016
Double-digit Obamacare premium hikes projected in 2017 may bode in Donald Trump’s favor, as several swing states are being impacted by double-digit increases under the law and consumers are expected to see the hikes around Nov. 1 — one week before heading to the polls. Trump has promised to repeal and replace Obamacare, but Hillary Clinton has vowed to make the Obamacare exchanges work. Some say the way she would do that is through raising taxes. “Any reports of premium increases will ...

Obamacare Meltdown Has Arrived. Tennessee Is Ground Zero For Obamacare'sOct 07, 2016
last month the state insurance commissioner, Julie Mix McPeak, approved premium increases of up to 62% in a bid to save the exchange set up under the Affordable Care Act. “I would characterize the exchange market in Tennessee as very near collapse,” she said. Big Jump Seen In Health Costs For Employees Oct 14, 2009
As companies begin unveiling their workplace benefits for next year, many employees are learning they will have to dig even deeper into their pockets for health coverage. Such price increases have become a fact of life during open-enrollment season, when workers sign up for their health plans. But the jump is expected to be steeper in 2010 than this year, as employers struggle with the impact of the recession and continually rising insurance costs. Employees will pay $4,023 on average in premiu ...

Why Did The Unemployment Rate Drop?Dec 02, 2011
I think the most encouraging part of this report is in the last paragraph. The U.S. added 120,000 jobs in November, but the unemployment rate posted a huge drop to 8.6% from 9% and a broader unemployment rate fell even more to 15.6% from 16.2%. Why? The number of jobs added comes from a survey of establishment payrolls. The unemployment rate comes from a separate survey of U.S. households. The household survey is much smaller than the establishment survey, and as a result it can swing around a ...
