A bit of his speech - Backwards Typist

No ground troops. The goal is regime changes and protect the citizens.

What if Ghadaffi goes? There is no government or class that can take over. No answer.

Is Libya going to be split up into 2 sections?

Obama just said:

"Once more, Ghadaffi has a choice. The resolution in the past lays out clear conditions which must be met. The U.S. UK and France agree ,,,,,,Ghadaffi must pull back his troops and supply electric, water, etc.  or ..."  (I couldn't type fast enough), but the news pointed out that it's like taking lines from Bush with Saddam.

The talks are still on for Saturday.

I didn't hear him say 'regime change' though, just we would protect the citizens - We live in a complicated world dont we?!

I also wonder if our reporters will get out.

Edited to say I wonder if our "Reporters" (not reports) will get out - Too many years as an MT

I just saw my mistake. Sorry.

Just heard part of the President's speech... - Indy

It does sound a whole lot like what Bush (and Clinton before him) said about Hussein...

Obama said about Ghadafi..."left unchecked we feel certain he would commit atrocities against his own people".....

Hmmm...like Hussein using WMD on the the Kurds? Rape and torture rooms? That kind of atrocities? And those people weren't even rebelling...

I guess now he understands the difficulty in being the guy making the decision...much more difficult than being the guy armchair quarterbacking the guy making the decision. What goes around....

I'm pretty sure he, and the rest of us, have known the difficulty - It is difficult for sure

I think my biggest problem in the past was not enough thought was given before just 'going to war'. Let's hope that this one won't be our war.

Even though I was so very unhappy with President Bush while he was in office, didn't like anything he did really, I can say that I like him now and wish him the very best. He has a good personality and a lovely wife. It's amazing how much better I feel toward him now that he is not in office. I'm glad to know that it isn't necessary to hate the politicians in the other party.
I agree with that....I haven't agreed with much - Indy

if anything Obama has done as President...or that he did as a senator...but as a private citizen he may be a really nice guy. As for Michele, her statement of for the first time in her life she was proud of her country...not my kinda gal, but it is definitely a free country and she is free to say anything she likes.

I feel sure I will feel better about both of them when he is out of office. ;-)

As to Bush...while I did not agree with everything the man did, I think he really takes a bad rap for Iraq. It is not like he is the only one who believed the intelligence...Britain did, France did, Germany did, Australia did...to name just a few. Some of the intelligence came from them. Point being...he may have been more eager to believe it, but all those countries plus our Congress believed it too, otherwise no one would have gone into Iraq.

Second thing, I DO think he handled the immediate aftermath of 9-11 extremely well. He united us as a country when we were in shock. He was a strong leader when we needed one, and I for one will always thank him for that.

Good visiting with you!

Ghadaffi has no where to go - sm

Seriously....he has no choice but to stay and fight. What country would allow him to live there? He knows that. If he leaves his country, he will captured and be in serious trouble. So to tell him to "get out" holds no water because the man literally can't.

I'm sorry but this whole Libya thing is crazy. We have 2 wars going on...we are stretched beyond our limits with our military and we have no money. We should stay the he!! out of Libya. Let other countries take the lead and do something for once.

Closed Door Speech By Hillary In IndiaAug 02, 2016

Door-to-door Mail Delivery Could Be Phased Out Jul 31, 2013
This isn't my first post on this. Did I have it right or what? 1. First came laws requiring the 200-year-old United States Postal Service to start paying entirely for itself, NO taxpayer support. 2. That didn't work. It COULD support itself. So second came a number of laws designed to cripple our USPS, including some by making it illegal to deliver certain types of high-profit deliveries -- benefiting giant private delivery corporations that couldn't compete with the highl ...

Meeting PlaceMay 07, 2011
I found a national radio program at midnight named Coast to Coast.  There they phone in and talk about ghosts, alien encounters, the New World Order, translupid dreaming, Mayan calendar, travel out of body, energy vampires, remote viewing and any other subject you might propose with utter seriousness.  A rich source for those who have not yet discovered it.     ...

Well, That Meeting Went Well This Morning.Mar 01, 2013
Obama didn't get his way since the important sequester meeting was only about 1 HOUR LONG.  Yes, he really is looking out for the people -- NOT-- or else they'd still be meeting and negotiating.  Sequester stands. He's not "wasting any more time" (my words, not his) since the sequester was "just dumb and arbitrary" (his words, not mine).  So, Mr. President, if it's so dumb, why did you suggest it in the first place????? Guess he ran off for a game of golf to ...

Meeting Young ObamaApr 06, 2012
My first meeting with young Barack Obama raised strong feelings and left me with a positive first impression.  At the time, I felt I'd persuaded a young man anticipating a Marxist-Leninist revolution to appreciate the more practical alternative of conventional politics as a channel for his socialist views.  I met Obama in December of 1980, a couple of days after Christmas, in Portola Valley -- a small town near Stanford University in Palo Alto, CA.  I was a 23 year old ...

Well, Holder Wants A Meeting With The PressMay 30, 2013
but.....he wants it as a "closed door" meeting; IOW, can't report what was said in that meeting. Are you kidding me? The more he tries to wiggle out of scandal, the more he digs himself into more outrage.   News organizations are divided on whether to accept invitations Thursday and Friday for private meetings with Attorney General Eric Holder to discuss the Department of Justice guidelines on targeting journalists in leak investigations. The Justice Department invited Washington bu ...

They're hardly alone in that. Our new congressman's "town halls" are a joke. He hides at the other end of a phone line his constituents can only listen in on, prescreened and scripted "questions" the only ones "answered," all statements made in politicalese--inane blurb devoid of information alternating with catchphrases designed to focus fear and resentment on the other party. GOP: Closed For Repairs.May 28, 2013
Former Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole (R-KS) told Fox News Sunday this week that the Senate Republicans are abusing the filibuster and that he doubts he, Richard Nixon, or Ronald Reagan could make it in today’s Republican Party. Asked his thoughts on the modern GOP, Dole — a former Republican national chairman, the 1976 GOP vice presidential pick, and the 1996 Republican presidential nominee — suggested, to host Chris Wallace, that the party lacks any positive ideas ...

Independent: Why Romney Closed The Deal With MeOct 23, 2012
1.  There was only one "presidential" personality on the stage last night. 2.  I became convinced that Romney is the one who can work across the aisle and get things done. 3.  Obama continued to refuse to own up to any of his obvious economic and foreign policy blunders.  Instead he was arrogant and snarky. 4.  The keys to an effective foreign policy are exactly what Romney identified:  a strong economy and a strong military. 5.  All that Obama could offer ...
