How Does Rolling Jubilee Work?
Banks sell debt for pennies on the dollar on a shadowy speculative market of debt buyers, who then turn around and try to collect the full amount from debtors. The Rolling Jubilee intervenes by buying debt, keeping it out of the hands of collectors, and then abolishing it. you put this thing up on the internet that shows how many dollars are being collected to offset the debt the current regime has attributed to this nation...people start believing this site is valid and donating monies to "help the country." well....see that funnel on the end of the trough there? This site has nothing to do with the national debt, rather it discusses the practice (and market) of purchasing defaulted debt. It's interesting. You should check out the content.

IMHO, it sounds like those fee-for-debt-consolidation programs that are mostly scams. I would ask them if they tell you not to pay your debts. If so, then you still get the black marks on your credit score as late payments.

Credit card companies will report late or nonpayments on your credit report because you're not making payments as agreed to when you took out that card.

This is not a company. They are not asking for anything from you (the general you). They are buying up old, charged-off debt and paying it off, using donated funds. You may never even know if they took action on your behalf. If you don't want to participate, you don't have to.

A little cynicism is a healthy thing, but yours seems more pathogenic. Good luck with that.

There's no way $1 donated can buy out $20 of debt. No way, no how; and they're saying they're not doing it for profit? Well, they sure aren't doing it for their health.

It's the essence of common sense to use their own tactics to abolish debt. I think it's beautiful in its simplicity.
