Gonna try something different

Posted: Aug 31, 2012

I'm gonna name some politicians who I greatly disagree with on 90% of issues.  Instead of bashing them about something...I'm gonna try and find a positive.

President Obama:  Good father, very determined kinda of guy.

Joe Biden:  Love his ornery grin.

Michelle Obama:  Strong woman.

Bill Clinton:  I give him a A+ on creativity.  Who would have thought to use a cigar like that.  ;)

Hillary Clinton:  With all the public knowledge of Bill's extracurricular activities, Hill held her head high through it all.  Definitely a strong woman!  I'da probably decked my husband, but that's just me.  ;)

A dislike...really? - Trigger Happy

Not only was I trying to pay a compliment to those I disagree with politically...but I was also trying to lighten the mood to this extremely tense political board.

I think something that would really help this board would be for all of us to look at the person we disagree with and try to find a positive. There is good in all people...some you have to look a little deeper to find it...but it is still there.

Obama got our troops out of Iraq and also ordered the seals to take out Bin Laden. To that I say Bravo, Mr. President! I also applaud his desire to provide all Americans with health insurance. I too think it is ideal for all to have health insurance...I just would have gone about it differently.

Come on people....I'm extending the olive branch here!!!

That's because you said you disagreed with him on issues - The Sarge

Once I saw you said you disagreed with him on issues I knew you'd get a dislike or two, or three or four, etc.

While you were so kindly extending the olive branch you couldn't help but to try to slam Bill for his "extracurricular activities" during the ode to Hillary speech.

Wow..nothing ever pleases some of you - Trigger Happy

I wasn't slamming Bill. If I were to slam Bill, it would have been for lying under oath about his extracurricular activities, but as far as I'm concerned...whatever Bill did outside of his marriage sexually is none of my business or concern. I was merely applauding Hill for staying strong and handling it well. I could not have done that.

I didn't like your original post, but I didn't "dislike" it. I just didn't appreciate the focus on the personal rather than the political aspects of Bill and Hillary. They were/are so much more than that.

I did "like" this post. YAY

Much appreciated. Thank you! - Trigger Happy

Regarding Hillary Clinton - bootstraps

First thing that pops into my head is that she is one of the most, if not the most intelligent woman in history. Her eloquence is precise and concise. She can say more in one sentence that many can manage in a half hour. She's visited more countries than any SOS. Her energy seems limitless.

and how the heck do you know she DIDN'T deck him!!???? ;-)

I'm not particularly fond of your characterization of Bill and I think it runs more along the lines of maybe some form of sarcastic positivity (as you did with Hillary also). I think to dwell on things like what you stated is to improperly disregard everything he did good during his presidency and since, all of which you probably disagree with anyhow.

I don't think you were genuine in your profession to be positive.

I think Bill did a great job working with the opposing side and they did get things done. His welfare reform, I think, was great. Too bad that has been undone but Bill did a great job there. Hill does seem to be able to be everywhere when needed. I'm surprised she has the energy to do all she does.

I still think Bill's creativity is an A+ and I too wonder if Hill really didn't deck him. LOL If she did, I'd like her for that too. Nothing worse than having your spouse's affair publically talked about. That must have been horrible for the whole family.

and that's why Barack will never fool around... Michelle's biceps are probably bigger than his!! Just looking at her gives me comfort that we'll never have to go through what we did with Bill ;-)

Sorry if I came down too hard.

Oh.. and George Bush was a great baseball team owner!!!
OMG...Michelle would absolutely - Trigger Happy

clobber the president if he tried anything like that...cigar or no cigar. LOL And I wouldn't blame her either. ;) I too am thankful we don't have to worry about that kind of scandal.
just one more thought about this - bootstraps

I'm completely in line with your reaction that it would be over if I was publically humiliated in the way Hillary was, but she took all that emotional energy and funneled it into better things.

She by no means "stood by her man." She stood for herself and knew it would not do any good to further the scandal by causing a scene (divorce, etc.), as it were. She just went on with HER life.

And the SOS gave her the perfect outlet to distance herself from Bill, not politically of course, but physically and possibly intimately.

This is all pure speculation on my part, but their relationship, personal, professional, and political, is an intriging dynamic.

Besides, who can say she didn't deck him? MUST have - happened some time. :) Democrat NM

....was Trigger Happy's OP, while presented as being "positive," was actually a back-handed compliment--not a "compliment" at all but rather a reminder of a very, very negative episode during the Clinton presidency.

I'm sorry, Trigger Happy, but that's the way I read it. You can say it was intended to be light-hearted, but, like I said, I felt like you picked a supposed "positive" that was really a huge negative, and I'd be very surprised if that was unintentional. Had you stated all truly positive things about the Democrats you mentioned, I would have taken it in the spirit in which it was presented as being intended.

I'm all for getting along and respecting each other's opinions, but I can understand why some might have clicked "Dislike" because of the Clinton comment....not because they dislike an attempt at positivity. Make it sincere next time, and maybe you'll get 100% Likes! :-)

At least I tried - Trigger Happy

and that is more than I can say for most others on this board.

I just gotta do it. Someone far below was accusing Republicans of fraud, ethnic violations, etc. Well, I did a wee bit of research over the weekend on Democrats. Keep in mind that the following names include only the years from 2008-2012, except for Bill and Hillary Clinton.  These names include mayors and governors. I did not put what investigations they underwent since this list is quite long.  If you have a favorite Democrat that you would wish to know the background, let me know. ...
