No excuse for the deadbeat dad, but if you are not working you are a deadbeat mom as well.

it's like you're heading for a cliff at full speed...then you slow down, you get a "little" job...it's been barely okay financially, take it day by day...you're only WALKING toward the cliff...but still, it's the frickin' direction you are heading!
I apply for any kind of job now. I need more training, but I can't get a scholarship for it, because I'm not working enough hours in X field. And do I even want the frickin' training...is it PLAUSIBLE for me to be doing this when I'm 60 years old?
I mean seriously...but I take it day by day. Today I'm sick, but better than yesterday. I thought, what if I get sick when I have to move? I won't be able to move. What am I going to do then...just lie there? I try not to think of the future too much. Just take it day by day. Or you will go crazy.
I'm pretty sure that she was not looking for - petty critisism.

Sometimes it is better to keep your thoughts to yourself.
Anyway, good luck with that and I hope things improve for the OP in the future.

Maybe she has applied to everywhere under the sun where she lives and there are no jobs.....ever think of that? Where I live, rural, anything decent is 25 miles or more away, maybe she has no car or not a reliable car, who knows. Here whenever there is a job opening about 300 people apply...so not very good odds for landing a job. I have been looking on and off for 3 years now, I have an extensive office background, computer literate, college graduate, etc....only 1 interview in that whole time....so don't be so judgemental....the day may come soon where you too don't have a job and have to try to find one and find out the reality is it is very hard to find a job, any job.
And the reason it's hard to find a job is... - wheres_my_job

you have TOO MANY skills, you are overqualified - you'd think with more skills/experience you'd have the advantage - but maybe it's not that way. They really DO want people with a minimum of skills.
Or....could be you really DON'T have enough skills, meaning, do you have expertise in EXACTLY these software programs? They really DON'T have the time to train you for, what, 2-3 days, on a new system.......
no win situation. But I keep trying. Good luck to all of us, we're gonna need it. Also, I am volunteering at an elementary school. Didn't get the PAID position I applied for...so now I'm doing the exact same thing one morning a week......for free.................

I am not going to bother even reading the reply from the obviously hateful poster. I tried and they said they could help some, but not much. Not enough to pay all my bills, but a little bit helps. I do have food stamps and all other help I can get under the sun:)
Food stamps? You've got kids - wheres_my_job

Maybe you're already getting food stamps. It's hard to find a job these days. I'm going to apply at Target and other seasonal (holiday) type positions.

I personally don't believe in begging for anything. Get off the couch and go do it. Clean a house or how about Walmart or Target? They're hiring and McDonald's is hiring all the time. Stop the pity party and take care of yourself and don't expect others to do so.

To the poster who was so thoughtless, did the thought cross your mind that perhaps there was a lot more the OP wasn't telling? Before you let your busy little fingers start in, you might want to consider being kind since you have no idea what other issues this poster might be facing. WTH is wrong with some people anyway?
Maybe Walmart or Target won't hire them - wheres_my_job
[ In Reply To ..]
a cleaning company might not hire you. It's no pity party, it's economic reality. It's an employer's market, not a job hunter's market. McDonald's doesn't automatically hire anyone who applies.
This is sad that someone is nasty when someone is down. sm - Sympathetic and fed up
[ In Reply To ..]
There is a lot going on that is not good in this country and in the world. I do not see the economy getting better no matter what the media says. People are hurting and hungry and humbled. Let's all try to work to help each other rather than hurt each other. They might seem like just words to you or somehow motivating, but if someone is already depressed and grieving the life they once had, you could be the straw that broke the camel's back. Why not take a moment to write words of encouragement? Would that be so hard?
Thank you! I am the OP of this thread and, while it may not be - sm

DHS Did Something Right Today.Mar 03, 2015Supposedly, DHS shut down 20 of these birth tourist homes, all in California. It costs up to $50K for the Chinese mothers-to-be to come and stay here, having their babies in a regular hospital, and then go home. The Fourteenth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution grants automatic citizenship to everyone born in the United States. It was intended to ensure that freed slaves would be able to claim citizenship they rightly deserved. Today, however, some creative "birth tourists" are ta ...
I Got A Cat TodayJan 21, 2016Believe it or not, I got a wonderful cat at a shelter today! He is a gorgeous black cat, looks like a little panther, and is incredibly affectionate and good natured. He is a love (and my third black cat), and I am so glad that a friend of mine suggested I take a black cat! So, no Savannah cat, no pit, no Rottie, just a wonderful and loving black cat! Wow! What A Speech By O TodayJan 07, 2010I'm surprised no one on this board commented on it yet. I watched it and he seems pretty pi$$ed. I just hope he really means what he said this time. As he said, it is his responsibility. Maybe now he will stop blaming the former administration and focus on being a president instead of a puppet.
The only problem I see is that talk is cheap. Implementation of what his plans are for the terrorist problem has yet to be seen.

Wow, Today Is The Day For GiftsDec 16, 2010So first I got a fruit basket delivered today from one of my accounts. Very nice. Then I got my mail and there was a X-mas card from our next door neighbor. They are retired, in their 80s, and live in Florida for the winter. Since we live in an area that has plenty of snow, we (usually me) shovel or snowblow their sidewalk whenever needed. In the past they have always sent a X-mas card with a check for my husband for doing the snowblowing, I think usually about $50. ...

Moral of the story - a big stress is when "worse comes to worst" is on the horizon, and you have to live with that possibility day in and day out. So one aspect of that is gone.
