Honduran President Says U.S. Weak Laws To Blame For Child Migration Crisis

Posted: Jun 14, 2014

What an embarrassment! With all that is going on, though, the president is once again off campaigning or golfing in Palm Springs or whatever. I know he's speaking at commencements at UC Irvine on Monday because my friend's son is graduating from there. He tells us that he can't speak for all of his fellow graduates, but he and his friends are not thrilled with the speaker. Can't say I blame the young people. They know what they're headed for unless there is a regime change in 2016.;

Perhaps the Honduran president - NK

should concentrate on the conditions in Honduras before he starts worrying about another country and its laws.

Incidentally, the UCI commencement is today, Saturday 06/14/2014, and my great-niece is graduating. I'm watching the livestream right now. She and her friends, all of whom worked very hard for his election and re-election campaigns, are quite thrilled that President Obama accepted the invitation to speak, and I'm quite proud of her.

If we didn't have an unengaged president, - sm

Honduras wouldn't have to accept the children and have their country bear expense as well. This is on President Obama!

You're right about the commencement being today. I got it mixed up with the actual degree ceremony, which is Monday at 3 pm.

No comment about your great-niece and her friends other than to say that's why it's good to have a balance in this country so one side doesn't override the other, which is what is happening currently by the dictator.

What does it mean? - NK

"Honduras wouldn't have to accept the children and have their country bear expense as well." The majority of the unaccompanied children are from Honduras.

Did you read the article you linked? It sounds to me like Mr. Hernandez is encouraging the U.S. to pass immigration reform. Gee, I wonder why that hasn't happened and is not likely to happen any time in the near future? One would think that a "dictator" could just declare it done.
Obama backs off on immigration - Truthhurts

i can't print the whole article because it's the AP and they're VERY strict on copyrights.

Obama tried to pull a fast one again on immigration. According to the article, Jeh Johnson did his job and presented Obama with options on deportation, but Obama decided to wait. He's hoping to blame the GOP...but it's not the GOP's problem. "This week, lawmakers from both parties summarily declared immigration-overhaul efforts dead after House Majority Leader Eric Cantor suffered an unexpected defeat." So, guess it backfired since he decided to back off reviewing Johnson's options.

The headline reads: Obama backs off on immigration
President waits on Congress so GOP gets blame

Associated Press

WASHINGTON – To the frustration of many of his supporters, President Barack Obama is backing away from immigration changes he could make on his own. He is kicking the issue to House Republicans instead, despite mounting evidence they won’t address the millions of immigrants living illegally in the United States.

Mr. Obama waits for Congress to act, and people get hysterical and accuse him of being an incompetent, ineffective weakling looking to blame someone else.

Mr. Obama doesn't wait for Congress to act and and uses his executive order privilege, and people get hysterical about lawlessness and accuse him of being a dictator.

Does that about sum it up?
I think it does! They hate and criticize no matter what he - does

it's called hypocrisy. The trademark for the GOP, politicians and voters.

BTW... congrats to your grand-niece. My daughter was in college in a very important state in 2008 and worked very hard for Obama campaign to bring it home :) So I feel your pride!!
Thank you. - NK

My great-niece lives across the country so I couldn't attend but enjoyed watching the stream. She is an intelligent, hard-working, independent young woman, as I am sure your daughter is.
Yes, congratulations. - sm

I saw the POTUS speak at a memorial service in Waco, Texas. All the participants were able to put politics aside and everyone was generally glad he came to honor those Americans who lost their lives.

It's nice he could honor those young people who've worked so hard. Congratulations to your great-niece.
It gives me hope - NK

Sometimes reading this board just sucks the life out of me. The ugliness of some of the posts is overwhelming. Then I realize that there are 20-something-year-old people like my two great-nieces and my great-nephew and their diverse friends, for whom tolerance is a way of life. It makes me hopeful and grateful.
I hope you include your side in this assessment. - sm

I agree it is ugly and overwhelming.

who accepts diversity and is tolerant of others, and I didn't specify any "side." Come to think of it, if we all had those qualities, we wouldn't need "sides."
Best post of the day - thank you

I only wish I could live to see the day when intolerance is watered down to an insignificant existence.
Simple answer for simple question. - sm

Yes, that sums it up. He goes whichever way will favor himself and/or his party. He does not care about the good of America as a whole. Period.
Yes, the majority are from Honduras. - No spin allowed.

And, of course, I read the article. Why would I post it if I hadn't read it? The governments of Honduras and Mexico have to spend money on their ends to deal with reuniting the children with their families. Maybe you didn't read the entire article or maybe you didn't grasp the economic impact this has on ALL countries involved. This is just dealing with the humanitarian crisis at the border. The other problem is the actual danger associated with having an open border and all the OTMs crossing into our country. That would include potential terrorists.

Weak President?May 09, 2014
I may be all wrong here, but I'm wondering if having a weak president has led to all these scandals, e.g., IRS, NSA, F&F, Benghazi and now the VA (have I left any out?). Would the scandals have happened anyway, or did people think they could get away with stuff because this president is weak? I, for one, am becoming more and more convinced that government is too big. A lot of government entities should be privatized. Sign me,Recovering Democrat ...

under a new piece of legislation introduced in the state's House of Representatives, employers would be able to pay anyone under the age of 20 as little as $5.25 an hour for their first 180 days on the job. He's A Dictator, Too Strong! Except That He's Such A Weak PresidentOct 30, 2015
They are so confused. One day they say he's a dictator, an emporor, takes too much action. The next day they say he's weak, never does anything. It would be funny if it weren't our country that is at stake with them stopping our government from doing anything. They think that is cute, but it is coming back to bite them, and already is. ...

Only, in Eisenhower s time the politically correct culture of liberal sensitivities had yet to emerge. There was ...

Our Stupid Self-inflicted CrisisJul 25, 2011
New York (CNN) -- Let me get this straight. The people who have been preaching the most about the dangers of American decline are right now helping to hasten American decline. Because if America defaults on its debt, not only will we find ourselves in a far deeper fiscal hole, but the full faith and credit of the United States will be compromised. In our globalized era, that means America will be considered an unpredictable partner and a second-class power. Worst of all, this will be a s ...

Fannie-Freddie Might Need $100 Billion In New CrisisAug 09, 2017
Mortgage-finance giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac could need nearly $100 billion in bailout money in the event of a new economic crisis, according to stress test results released Monday by their regulator. The companies would need to draw between $34.8 billion and $99.6 billion in U.S. Treasury aid under a “severely adverse” scenario, depending on how they treated assets used to offset taxes, the Federal Housing Finance Agency said in its report. The losses would leave $158.4 billion to ...
