....scenario mentioned sometime in the last few days by one of the talking heads on TV: If Obama is reelected--therefore, no incumbent running next time--what if the two candidates (for the major parties) in 2016 were Jeb Bush and Hillary Clinton???!!! Oh, blimey.....how could it happen that there are only two families in this whole country who keep producing presidential candidates?? :-D Seriously, though--that feels like way too much power in the hands of a very few, even though I happen to like Hillary Clinton very much and think she'd be a wonderful first female president. I like Jeb Bush, too, and can't help but wonder where our country would be if it had been HIM instead of his brother nominated last time. Was he showing that he had more wisdom than George by not even wanting to be president?
When George W. Bush was the candidate his first time, I asked myself a similar question. After getting to know him better and deciding he was a very inadequate option, I wondered--of ALL the good Republicans in this land, how did we end up with another member of the same family as being our only viable option for the Republican ticket?
It seems to me that we have created a monster with our political system. I'd like to see us go back to the days when you didn't have to be a multi-millionnaire to be able to run for president, and fellow politicians weren't totally beholden to their parties (and their corporate favors) for all the connections that helped get them elected. We seem to have lost government "by the people and for the people."
;I like the one sentence that starts "Oh, blimey" in your first paragraph and like your last paragraph. But am iffy on the rest of it.
