HIgh-Speed Rail Lines

Posted: Nov 10, 2010

Click on the link to see where billions and billions of stimulus money would go for high speed rail lines. Note that 3/4 of them do not connect to the rest of the country.  They are mostly 'local' rail lines. At the bottom or side of the chart, you can click on each line and see the projected cost of each.

In my honest opinion, from reading some of the other newspapers and journals, most of these lines will be so fast, anywhere between 100-236 mph trains, yet only cut 1/2 hour of time off a commuter's trip. Is it really worth the cost? Obama thinks it is and I think it's because Japan and China already have these rail lines...but what he fails to mention is that those trains are not just local lines. I surely don't want to be in or on a vehicle that runs that fast. I like to look at the scenery passing the windows. Those were some of my memories when there was train service in my area.

The problem with people in this country is everyone wants to "get there yesterday."  Even cars....speed limit is 65, they drive 85-90. Yet, they didn't get to their destination any faster. I've seen it. They may have gained a few miles at first, but the first time they hit a red light or stop sign, I'm right behind them just by following the speed limit.

High-Speed Rail Lines - SillyRabbit

I remember before steam engines were completely replaced by diesel. Scenic train travel is a therapeutic and comfortable mode of travel. I would like to see railroad travel restored and expanded, but I am not too keen on the high-speed rail lines either.

Same opinion here, and would probably just waste money.nm - Frank

BP will now change the way it processes claims, including a decision to no longer make businesses wait for payments until they have closed their books for each month. We'll see - hope  ...

For why gas is reason for a drawing a "red line," see #4. #3 explains Obama's grim, pragmatic long-term goal for a region way beyond our ability to actually control. (Note that this article, like all the others, does not explain what happened to change our very deliberative White House's announcement of a strike to an announcement of intention to seek Congressional approval. Something that, whatever else, made them decide to set the  strike date back.) Up to Speed: Five Things ...

I haven't been back to a reunion since my 10th one. Is that pathetic? I would also add that I was the geeky, awkward, nose-in-a-book, dateless, ...
