Guess who blocked the paid for Small Business Lending bill

Posted: Jul 29, 2010

Wanna know why?  Because extension of expiring tax breaks for the rich (estate tax on amounts greater than $1 million) were not included, so they threw a hissy.  Every time Reid offered compromises on other amendments, GOP demands changed (sound familiar?).

Now lets see here, true colors shown on this would be anti-small business, anti-tax breaks for anyone who is not rich and anti-jobs creation.  Nice job.  Oh, lest we forget.  Their objections did not include any positive or constructive alternatives to the bill.  Will anyone naive enough to believe the underlying motives are not economic stagnation until November please stand up?

Positively indefensible.

Many articles available.  This one seems to contain fairly comprehensive 1nformation.

Look, it is OBAMA who refuses to reach his hand out - to the other side....over and over..

Reid is a total hypocrite like Obama, so please, to post this as if the dems are out there trying to compromise while the big bad pubs refuse their offers is laughable. For example, when they wanted the extension of unemployment benefits, the pubs only wanted to know where this money was coming from (should come from the useless stimulus money).. so they were painted as awful people denying the unemployed. I know most dems are pure and innocent, looking out for the public, like Charlie Rangel - LOL!

Looks like someone didnt read before posting. - or didnt like what they saw...

What are you talking about? This is TEXTBOOK pub hypocrisy. Repugs on this forum, in Congress and all over the media have been pushing tax cut/breaks for weeks now and are constantly pointing out the obvious, that small businesses are the major source of jobs in this country. Yet here they are without a leg to stand on, voting against those exact same self-proclaimed GOP-friendly policies, throwing tantrums because they cant squeeze in a juicy perk for their deep-pocket sugar daddys. I know it, you know it, we all know it. That is why you are doing everything you can to avoid responding to the issue at hand.

BTW, I caught this debate on CSPAN several times and can assure you that the party of no was using its same worn-out transparent obstruction tactics. Maybe if I dig around a little I can come up with the transcripts. It was apparent that they care about one thing and one thing only, that being to block any improvement in the economy between now and election day, with the mistaken belief that this ill-conceived strategy is going to somehow compensate for their lack of leadership, accomplishments, agendas and campaign platform.

Rangel has nothing to do with this, other than to provide you with a passing moment of phoney self-righteous indignation. For the record, I think he should resign. BTW, if I were you, I would think twice before going down that scandal road. GOP record on that can make Rangel's charges look like a Sunday picnic. I have that information right at my fingertips. Just say the word and I would be more than happy to post it for you.

Sorry, but the hypocrisy is showing in YOUR posts - If Bush were in office right now with

the shape of things right now, you would be all over him with your regular "I hate pubs". Obama is there instead, so things are improving -what a total joke! So please, dont even go there. I see right thru ya.
Where do you get this stuff? - I suppose you think
[ In Reply To ..]
Obama is responsible for GOPs repeated displays of patent hypocrisy, obstruction, pandering to the rich and sabotaging the economy, which is WAY apparent by their actions. All I did was post an article desribing real events that took place today that so far not one single pub has had the courage to address directly. That speaks for itself.

No Obama is the POTUS. Therefore, supposed to - be the leader who takes responsibility

What post do you think you are responding to? - sm

check out the lead post in the thread. Then tell me how you make this leap of illogic from a GOP down vote on their own stated policies to Obama taking responsibility and Bush bashing? You sound like the Fox propagana machine has got you wound up a bit tight tonight.

Apparently you have nothing to add to that issue because the hypocrisy is so blatent. Why not just pick up your marbles and go home? Better luck next time.
Look, we know. You hate pubs, fox, blah blah blah - GoodDay

So, anyone who disagrees with you must be brainwashed by "Fox propaganda"? Whatever. Also, do you ever think there is more than one reason they vote something down? I am sure, though, you never look more indepth than the tip of your nose. Your hate for the other side would never let you look deeper than that. You simply come across as sarcastic.

Obama has reached out over and over-and the Regressives just keep slapping it away and then go on Faux to complain on how the President doesn't try to be bipartisan so that faithful but brainwashed and/or brain dead viewers can go on forums such as this and repeat the baloney.

Please! It's an election year, the economy sucks... - Zville MT

the dems would do the same thing if things were reversed. Personally, I'd love to see each and every one of those dunces in DC standing in an unemployment line after November - not a one of them is in this to help the American people - only themselves.

That's what is positively indefensible.

Smoke and mirrors unsubstantiated speculation vs - actions speak louder than words.

[ In Reply To ..]
Clearly you cannot address, let alone defend this hypocrisy.

Don't need to address it - Zville MT

[ In Reply To ..]
It's pretty much a proven fact that both parties are hypocrits when it comes to spending versus not spending - they're only concerned about it when it might affect them adversely in an election.

They're all cheats and liars - actually, to call them hypocrits is being kind.
Is it constitutionally possibly for you to stop - sniping long enough to

realize what is at stake here, or have you already lost sight of the fact that we are talking about small business lending, small business tax breaks and jobs creation in your rush to, what? Be cute? Maybe you do not feel the need to address it, but somebody has to. That is all dems are trying to do.
Well, you have really lost your mind if you think that so far, - TX

Obama and the dems are creating jobs. Wow, delusional much?
We all know why jobs arent being created and - it has nothing to do with

lack of trying. One fatal flaw the GOP had in 2008 that they have not recognized to this day is that they underestimate the intelligence of the average voter. The GOPs behavior this afternoon only confirms what has been apparent from the moment the aministration changed hands. I will leave it up to you to go figure, but don't hurt yourself with that monumental undertaking.
I totally understand what is at stake here - Zville MT
[ In Reply To ..]
but I think you're not understanding what I'm saying. In your original post you act like you're surprised the republicans would block a bill at this point in time - seriously? Now, given, I haven't read the bill so I have no idea what the promises were or why the pubs voted it down, but my point is that this congress seems to live for either spending or going against spending, depending on how it affects them at election time - this is no secret and shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. You can bash the pubs for this one all you want (I personally want some more information about the bill before I decide),but when it comes down to it, no one in DC is concerned with jobs except thier own.

I'll look for a link to the bill tonight if you'd care to review it as well - maybe then we can have an educated discussion on whether it's a good thing or a bad thing.
I sorta kinda agree with this - but it does not change
[ In Reply To ..]
the basic elements of voting down a bill that contains measures you claim to support. Where I come from, that's called hypocrisy.
Agreed, but it's not something totally reserved for the pubs. - Zville MT

I'm sick and tired of bills going through with a great main idea, but with crap attached to it - that could be the case here, I don't know. I've got some work to finish up and then I'll do some checking around for the bill - it's gotta be on Congress.org or somewhere like that.

Prohibits the Secretary from denying an application by an eligible institution for a capital investment under the Program solely on the basis of its composite rating under the Uniform Financial Institutions Rating System (or an equivalent).
Sets forth financial incentives for small business lending by such eligible institutions.
Grants the Secretary additional authorities to implement this Act, taking into consideration: (1) increasing the availability of credit for small businesses; and (2) providing funding to eligible institutions that serve small businesses in low- and moderate-income, minority, and other underserved communities.
Terminates the authority to make capital investments in eligible institutions one year after the date of enactment of this Act.
States that: (1) the Program is established as separate and distinct from the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) under the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 (EESA); and (2) an institution shall not be considered a TARP recipient by virtue of a capital investment under this Act."

Both sides are at fault for a lot of things. Republicans have never said they were free from blame, but the democrats are acting as they they are all innocent and care about the people of the country. Which is a total 100% fabrication. - A lie! Ever since JS came out with a video about republican hypocrisy that's all that's being regurgitated on this board and its getting sickening. Nobody ever said there was no hypocrisy with republicans, but the democrats will never admit that their side is filled with hypocrisy also. And no I'm not going to state specifics since that would take me a week or longer. You know what they are - you can figure it out.

This board has gotten so ridiculous the last couple days. It's just insult after insult after insult. Then linked in between these insults I may be able to get a post with a little bit of information that is enjoyable to read. Both BOTH sides are doing it so don't think you are free from blame.

We are all adults here, or so I thought, but this board and particularly posts like this one is childish. It's like listening to children fight. Giving an opinion is one thing, just coming on to gleefully insult the other side is sickening.

Both sides have good people and both sides have bad people. Sorry to break the news to you but the democrat party is not all angelic, and with everything they are doing it's the total opposite of "angelic".

Listening to the democrats talk about republicans is like watching rabid dogs foam at the mouth. Incoherent ramblings of absolute hatred without any real reason.

I'll tell you this. Since being an adult and living on my own with a family to raise every time a democrat has been in office or in congress we have suffered. My family has suffered and so have my friends. Every time a republican has been in office we've done better. We live paycheck to paycheck so I'm certainly not rich here, but stop acting as though everything is hunky dory now that you got your guy in. Well guess what - your guy doesn't run the show. Your guy gets to deliver the message that his handlers tell him to deliver to us. There are more people behind the scenes running the show and nobody ever wants to address them.

I've just about had it tonight with all the constant bashing and name calling of the republicans and posters on this board who are not democrats without reason or facts. AND you blatantly ignore the facts when they are stacked against your club.

The constant insults against Fox News or anyone who watches Fox is also old hash. It's a news station just like MSNBC and CNN. In fact they run the same exact film clips and films stories. So enough with the "it's not a real news station, fake news, blah, blah, blah, haw, haw, haw". And enough with the assumputions that if people aren't drooling over yours truly that it's related to Fox. Seems the only people who are thinking for themselves now adays are the ones who are watching Fox. Who aren't being told what to think, do, or say. And Fox stations ratings are growing while the others are dwindling. Deal with it.

What I'm seeing in these posts are the blatant panic the democrats have with the election coming up. They know they have screwed over the people of the country so bad and they are in absolute panic they will not be reelected, so now they are on the warpath to bash anyone who is not a democrat. They never, and I mean NEVER EVER EVER take responsibility for their actions. Pelosi says one thing, does another and then blames Bush for it. Same with all of them. Crisis happening and Obama goes on vacation...no problem, that's Bush's fault. Enough already - take responsibility! Bush was not perfect. I don't know how many times we have to keep repeating this, but neither is Obama. But truth be told, neither of them were or are in charge of anything.

Hopefully tomorrow when I come back on the childish bashing will stop. I'd love to see the board get back to some level of adulthood.
Oooh...another drive by insult - go figure

You answered a snipe with a snipe. (sm) - Nikki

The first snipe aimed at you was okay. Your return snipe wasn't.

It's okay when the Repubs snipe, but when you do it IN RETURN, it's suddenly not okay.

I just wanted to make sure I understand this.

You must have struck a nerve. Congrats. - Nice job.
