It comes as no surprise you have cited a source with essentially zero credibility.

On cursory survey of the professor's career, it becomes apparent that throughout the numerous controversies he's encountered during his tenure at Wellesley, his primary line of defense has predictably been to repeatedly play the race card against his accusers, rather than to engage in more effective, informed and scholarly approaches, befitting an individual otherwise endowed with such an impressively high brain cell count. In other words, he has shown himself to be somewhat of a hot head, to put it politely.

Hiding behind his academic credentials and his overblown and narcissistic sense of self importance, he has managed to land himself in the middle of a number of litiginous situations arising from his inability to control his own emotional outbursts. There was the nasty business of his 1991 student harrassment involving his not-so-professorial response to a women's dorm monitor who questioned his unauthorized presence in the building. For the heinous act of performing her assigned hall duties by asking him to state the purpose of his visit to the back halls of the residence, Dr Martin exploded by unleashing a lengthy and angy tirade, labeling the student as an "effing bitch, racist and bigot," before getting all up in her face, knocking her down and becoming physically threatening toward her.

When classics professor Mary Lefkowitz called into question Martin's claims that the Greek philosophers "plagiarized" African sources, in the aftermath of heated literary exchanges in various academic publications, Martin launched an unsuccessful libel suit against her, then proceeded to drag her through the appeals court system for six years before the suit was dismissed. He filed another toothless claim against an MIT student who had the utter gall to report on the Lefkowitz dust-up. This action was also easily dismissed after Martin failed to meet 4 out of 5 criteria for libel. Can you say vengeful hothead?

The work from which this lecture derives was denounced by Wellesley as incendiary, anti-Semitic, and racially bigoted clap-trap. After another critical review by Henry Gates, Martin characterized him as a platitudinous "HNIC (Head N-word in Charge)." Do we see a pattern developing here? Martin is constitutionally incapable of accepting critical scrutiny on any level whatsoever. He affinity for mud-slinging, my-way-or-the-highway academics standsin stark contrast with his superficial espousal of the virtues of intellectual inqury and historical revisionism. Let's qualify that hothead description by adding "hypocrite" into the mix.

My favorite example of his unscholarly behaviors is his involvement with the defense of Holocaust denial. I really don't think that one needs any further explanation.
