Challenge to the Voting Rights Act coming up

Posted: Nov 9, 2012

It's based on a states' rights power grab that would remove federal oversight of changes in voting laws.  Sorry.  After what we just witnessed, this doesn't sound like the best of ideas.

;

That's EXACTLY what I was thinking. BAD timing. :) - nm

Not so much a states rights power grab as allowing them to go out play with the other children without special supervision.

election night racial tweets - bootstraps

[ In Reply To ..]
The Voting Rights Act, as you stated, removes federal oversight in historically racial regions. I bet a nickel that many of the states from where racial tweets came from are these historically racial regions.

Not a good time at all.

What is it I'm missing - sm

Is there another part of the article I'm missing, like a page 2 or something. The article is about racial tweets, yet they don't give any examples. I'm sure there are hateful tweets, just like there were when Bush got in, so I'm not doubting it, but I'm just missing that part of the article. I didn't see a page 2. Unless I see the actual proof its just someone's word and we all know there's been a lot of false accusations regarding racism. Sorry, just would like to see some more proof.

CA woman Denise Helms who was promptly - fired from her job after

[ In Reply To ..]
posting the following message to her FB wall:

“Another 4 years of this (N-word). Maybe he will get assassinated this term.”

Being fired from her job is the least of her problems. She's now the subject of a Secret Service investigation. Her "not that big of a deal" response indicates her need to be schooled on the finer points of free speech versus felonious subversion, incitements to violence, assassination plots and the like, and the need for racial sensitivity intervention. This is an area of vigorous law enforcement WE ALL should get behind, regardless of party affiliation, every bit as enthusiastically as we all lend support to Gabby Gifford's speedy recovery. It's not just about what Ms Helms said, but claims she would never act upon. It's also about the loons lurking in the shadows of the web who would be more than happy to step up and carry out on behalf of the words she inadvertently put out there.

After crying foul (on the SS) and protesting the innocence of her remarks, Ms Helms added that should the president be assassinated, she would not be "the least bit" concerned.
A term for that is "trolling for assassins." Fox & Friends did - a lot until it was pointed out. Then shut up. nm

Hillary Will Not Challenge PDA Monopoly...Sep 20, 2016
is in the regulatory crosshairs of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton. She says she's had enough of their 'price-gouging' ways, and plans to 'reign in' their consumer-harming policies. If you believe that, there's a bridge in the middle of nowhere to buy. The fact is, neither is Clinton going to "reign in" drug companies, nor is there a widespread problem with "price-gouging," as she claims. The truth lies somewhere in-between, but make no mistake ab ...

HCR Now Faces Senate ChallengeMar 22, 2010
So it's not over yet. Washington (CNN) -- Now that the House has passed the Senate's health care reform bill and a package meant to reconcile differences between the House and Senate bills, the next step is for members of the Senate to sign off on those changes. That won't be as easy as it sounds. Senate Republicans have indicated they will use any and all legislative tactics in order to slow -- even stop -- the reconciliation bill from passing. Justice Department Drafts Challenge To AZ LawMay 26, 2010
I just love it. Does this mean the federal law is also wrong and they need to sue themselves????  Accordingly, (which I have not researched yet), the federal law allows the states to implement laws following the federal guidelines.  I'll see what I can dig up. The draft recommendation, part of an ongoing Justice Department review, concludes the Arizona legislature exceede ...

Can You Challenge The Amount Billed For A Hospital Inpatient StayJan 13, 2012
I hope someone who has done hospital billing might be more familiar with how that works and can explain this to me. Can we try to keep this civil and have a conversation about our basic constitutional rights without needing our hard hats please. Civil Rights Bills Passed ForAug 21, 2017
Food for thought: “I maintain that every civil rights bill in this country was passed for white people, not for black people. For example, I am black. I know that. DISGRACEFUL VIOLATION OF RIGHTS: Feds InvestigateSep 15, 2012
Let's get something straight.  When the Islamists erupted, few if any had ever seen the video that has been used as the "cover" for what are pretty obviously orchestrated terror attacks, not a true "Muslim uprising". Hillary Clinton and the White House have blamed this little, insignificant, relatively unnoticed video for uprisings around the world. This, of course, because the Obama administration has NEVER come to grips with the extent, the global reach or the implications of Islam ...
