I'll bet the mothers of these poor lost souls are really proud of their children.

Thank you.

LOL @ the vocabulary comment - sm

This argument always cracks me up. I probably use every one of those bleeped words daily. How does using *more* words equal a poorer vocabulary?

I'll sign the petition ASAP.

Great. Seriously, I am very afraid that mysogenistic extremists are - using the abortion issue as a tool to

[ In Reply To ..]
institude a very extreme, religion-based agenda. It's happened elsewhere. It can happen here. It is happening here--only it's just in the works, and abortion law is only part of what's on the table here.

If a fertilized egg is a person under the law, what responsibility does a woman carrying it have to it from the very beginning? Could this, coded into law with serious penalties for manslaughter and even murder, be used to oppress women?

Could employers start deciding not to hire women of childbearing age for jobs that required long hours or physical or emotional stress (almost every high paying job, in other words).

Far more than just reproductive issues are under attack. Both Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan are religious extremists who want women's main role to be at home as wives and mothers. Many extreme religious conservatives have become state and national legislators and agree with that. What others laws can be eliminated or enacted to make work not lucractive enough for women to bother? If enough of these people are voted in, with a friendly President,

Equal pay for equal work can disappear in the stroke of a pen.

Wives' incomes can be taxed at a prohibitively higher rate at the stroke of pen.

Paying overtime to women can become illegal again--the way it was when I was working at 17. Or women might not be allowed to work overtime--the way it was when I was 17. (Yes, both. And I was--unofficially--required to work overtime, but, gee, they were sorry they weren't allowed to pay me the overtime the guys got.)

Businesses can get tax breaks for hiring men instead of women at the stroke of a pen.

Assistance programs helping women in trouble get work training or to leave abusive husbands can disappear in the stroke of a pen.

Social Security and Medicare programs are big factors in independence for women in later years. Benefits can be rewritten, taken away, or the programs themselves disappear at the stroke of a pen.

These are only a fraction of the ways women can be pushed into second-class citizenship and forced to rely on men against all over again.

Who ever thought we COULD find ourselves at this point again? We can vote this danger right away now, and we'd really better--before we find police and courts enforcing the new life begins at conception laws, and many others we're not going to like at all.

Wonderful post! The only people to benefit - sm

from a Romney presidency are the very rich, who are tagged to become even richer.

Your points are right on target; Romney has already said he'd outlaw abortion. I'm not sure if he said no exceptions or exceptions for the life of the mother, incest and rape. I believe he stated both of these things and God only know what mood he is in today or which he really favors.

At least Obama signed the Lilli Ledbetter Act, where all but three Republicans voted AGAINST it, so that gives you an idea of the idiocy we're dealing with on the other side.

Your "stroke of the pen" scenarios are also right on target.

I also agree with your point on emphasis on religion in this race. I remember when they were afraid to run Kennedy because he was Catholic and they didn't want the Pope running the White House. Unfortunately, if Romney/Ryan win (particularly on Ryan's side), that's exactly what will be happening, and I believe there should be a sharp separation between religion and state. They're going to try to turn the USA into one of those "stan" countries where religion rules the country.

Again, WONDERFUL post, and thank you for posting it.

Baloney! He won't outlaw abortion. ..and where has - Obama helped the middle class... big fail ! nm

Are YOU part of the 47% that he detests so much?

You should at least LISTEN to the words coming out of his own mouth, though I know that can be confusing because he takes a different position each day.

You're too lazy to look it up, yet you give me "suggestions" of where to look.

Just because you're uninformed and refuse to fact-check, that's YOUR problem, not mine.

And calling me a liar if I don't "obey" your "commands" says a lot more about you than it says about me.
All I know is that is an out and out lie. - He never said that and you know it. I win.

The whiners of this trivia give the adults on this board a good laugh at how a few of you post whatever you want, complain and whine there is no adult valid discussions on this board, threaten to "leave" the board but never do, and then write post after post about someone using double colons or *eye roll*. Yep - guess you are 3.

Thanks very much. I'll gladly sign it right now. - nm

An Unprecedented Threat To Reproductive And Sexual JusticeOct 18, 2010
What's the connection between the personhood of a fertilized egg and the personhood of corporations? Both can and will undermine the fundamental rights of women. On January 21st of this year, perhaps in some cosmically ironic sense a day before the 37th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court handed down a decision on the Citizens United case. In the 5 to 4 opinion, the Court held that: Political spending is a form of protected speech under the First Amendment, and the govern ...

DISGRACEFUL VIOLATION OF RIGHTS: Feds InvestigateSep 15, 2012
