"Before Debate, Tough Crowds at the Practice"

Posted: Oct 2, 2012

"But it is not enough to pore through the voluminous briefing books. Victory may come down to a single exchange, or a single impression, an answer that comes off as too edgy or, conversely, as too long-winded."

(Fun article to read, but what does that appalling statement say about the viewers?)

The Republican candidate debates - I remember it well

[ In Reply To ..]
The Republicans cheered when discussing the dealth penalty and who can forget the "let them die" remark about the uninsured? I doubt Mitt will be this extreme when facing a national audience, but maybe.

Not a chance. That was a selected audience, the little dears. :) - Not Mitts real style at all. A dem. NM

News report Mitt went to Denver early - To "adapt to the altitude"

[ In Reply To ..]
...so he can think clearly for the debate. Let's hope if he's elected there's never a crisis he can't spend several days preparing for.

Seriously, makes sense. I lived at Tahoe, similar altitude - that causes tourists headaches and somnolence.NM

Seriously.  I am always amazed when my heart physically hurts in my chest.  I feel horrible and alone all at the same time.  I can't stop crying, or worrying, or wondering what I should have done different. My heart goes out to anyone else going through the same.  ...

The Adoration Of The Crowds....Sep 06, 2012
I've watch both conventions and the thing that fascinates me (and disturbs me at the same time) is the adoration on the faces of the crowd when the camera pans the audience.... You (in the royal sense) KNOW that the candidates are up there lying, but the audiences eat it up like candy.  It reminds me of a church revival meeting. I wonder if they bother to do any of their own research. Scary stuff. ...

Has Anyone Watched Coverage Of Crowds Outside The Courtroom? Jul 05, 2011
My family called me not understanding how a mother not report a child missing for 31 days and no criminal charges were made.  I keep hearing from commentators saying the justice system worked.  I want to know how the justice system worked, freeing an obviously guilty person to continue her life as if her daughter was not murdered.  Just heard on the news the Anthony family is being threatened.  Can you imagine what happens to Casey once she is free as far as threats on ...

Bernie Sanders Draws Largest Crowds--didn'tAug 17, 2015
Over the weekend, when both men stumped across Iowa, rampant controversy raged across websites about their respective audiences. Trump insisted his crowds at the State Fair were the largest for any candidate. Sanders' supporters upheld their claim to the same distinction. More objective observers tended to side with Sanders, while also noting that Trump's throngs were at least partially drawn to his helicopter, in which he gave rides to children, among others. http://www.npr.org/s ...

Opinions About Dental PracticeMar 12, 2013
Hello...A while ago I thought someone had started a thread about going to the dentist.  I was going to add on to it but couldn't find it, so I will start a new topic. My (former) dentist sends reminder letters to come in for your routine exam and cleaning, as many dentists do.  I really like him and I think he does a really good job, but the wording of the letters always puts me off, it's something like, "you worked hard for your benefits, come in and use your insurance befor ...

Physicians Changing To Concierge Practice.Jul 02, 2012

Whoa - Bernie Is Getting Tough!Apr 07, 2016
Go Bernie, tell the truth! Hillary is a corrupt politian. "Secretary Clinton appears to be getting a little bit nervous," he told a crowd in Philadelphia. "And she has been saying lately that she thinks that I am 'not qualified' to be president. Well, let me, let me just say in response to Secretary Clinton: I don't believe that she is qualified, if she is, through her super PAC, taking tens of millions of dollars in special interest funds. I don't think that you are q ...

‘Tough S.O.B.’ Harry Reid Faces Biggest Test YetJan 26, 2015
Badly injured, Harry Reid’s political future was left for dead.  It was early 2009, and the Senate Democratic Leader was reeling from the revelation that he praised Barack Obama’s “light skin” and lack of a “Negro dialect.” Polls showed Reid going to the way of his predecessor, Tom Daschle, who lost reelection in 2004, as the Nevadan faced revolt both at home and in Washington, and on both the right and left. Just a third Nevadans said they wou ...

After The DebateOct 17, 2012
The first person to ask a question was Kerry Ladka. "Was Ladka satisfied with how the president responded? Simply no. “I really didn’t think he totally answered the question satisfactorily as far as I was concerned,” Ladka tells the Erik Wemple Blog. After the debate . . . "President Obama, though, wasn’t done with Kerry Ladka. 'After the debate, the president came over to me and spent about two minutes with me privately,' says the 61-year-old Ladka, who works at Global ...

My Take On The Debate. SmOct 14, 2015
I was struck last night by the huge difference in what we can infer about the nature of Bernie's and Hillary's thought processes while they were processing the challenging questions that Anderson Cooper threw out at them individually. Hillary's demeanor reminded me of one of those canned Miss America Pageant contestant types whom you can tell is so focused on searching her memory bank for a previously stored 'good answer' that the importance of the issue itself was tota ...

Diaper Debate...Sep 17, 2011
Okay, so here it is. I have a very good friend who is expecting. She is low income and has MA, WIC, food stamps, etc. She is slowly buying clothes, furniture, etc. a little at a time before baby arrives around May.  She knows about Goodwill, rummage sales, resale shops, and all that too.  She has other friends as well (who have had children) telling her which diapers are the best. She wants to start buying diapers now so she has a few packs/boxes to start with when the baby arrives. Sh ...

I'm So Tired Of The Tax Debate!May 14, 2010
Tax the rich more....tax the poor less, etc.  It is my opinion that if you tax the rich more, it won't help that much considering there are so many loopholes in the tax code that I'm sure the rich will find a way to get out of paying more taxes.  Why don't we just do a flat tax.  That will eliminate the loopholes.  Simple and easy...probably why they won't do it though.  They need something confusing so the crooks in the world can get out of paying ta ...

How To Debate The DonaldAug 03, 2015
This article is amusing. I would hope there is a lot of practice going on for other Republicans on how not to let him get under their skin. They should refuse to answer him directly (which I don't think they are supposed to anyway) and calmly present their perspective, no matter how wild his responses and answers are. If possible, they should ignore him and pretend he has not spoken at all. I particularly liked this reference-- "Other than a dart gun?," he said. "A tranquilizer gun ...
