Another loss for GOP vote suppression efforts. Federal judge reinstates

Posted: Oct 6, 2012

Note that this simply puts the prior law in effect. Individual counties will have the old right to decide whether to keep their polls open that Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Still, another victory for Democracy and our founding principle of "one man, one vote."

This will, of course, make a difference to elderly voters, especially, who depend on family, friends, church vans to be able to take them to vote.

Now all they need to do is get rid of the...sm - JTBB

gazillion signs all over the place that still say you need ID to vote, but that is AWESOME news!

that if you libs who are against voter ID were running for an office of some sort, and you and your opponent were neck and neck in the race, and a group of people came to vote but it turns out they managed to vote illegaly because they didn't have to present their ID, and lo and behold they voted for your opponent and he/she won by enough votes to be declared the winner...you wouldn't care, right?

it sounds like you have never been to the polls before - nm

I do not show ID to vote. I do not go to the - polls to vote, yet I vote.

Moved to Oregon 7 years ago. Anyone in the household who is 18 and older register to vote. Then the ballot is delivered by mail to your home. We have a couple of weeks to vote. I sit at the kitchen table looking up the candidates like mayor, representatives, etc. at my own leisure. Then I drop off the ballot by the deadline at any white voting box (looks like the blue drop off mail boxes) located around town. SO EASY TO VOTE IN OREGON.

I really don't have a problem with voter ID..sm - JTBB

Even though we've probably seen more fraud with that company that pubs hired recently than we have for the last 20 years...lol.

Voter ID is just fine and dandy with me. Initiating voter ID 2 months before a national presidential race...not so much. Cutting down availabity by shortening early voting (which has nothing to do with voter fraud, BTW)...not so much. If they really were concerned about voter fraud, they've had 3-1/2 years to do something about it instead of waiting for the last minute...but then again, this whole business is about keeping democrats from the polls in Nov.
Beg to disagree with your first statement. - backwards typist

I think ACORN did more fraud and damage to voting in 2008 than any other company.

The one the pubs hired then fired as soon as they found out about the fraud shows that the pubs don't tolerate voter fraud and I think that because of the debacle [sic] with ACORN got everyone thinking about voter ID.

I wonder how many other years ACORN defrauded the country. I am so glad they were "outed" but everyone still needs to keep their eyes open because they are trying/tried to make a comeback. Most of them should have been arrested and jailed.

Provide one instance where someone - voted illegally because SM

they did not have voter ID. Those officials/politicians promoting this ID by claiming voter fraud had to admit that they could not provide any evidence of it. As a progressive, it does not bother me if states want to change their laws as far as having an ID to vote. My problem is that they wanted to do it this election cycle, knowing full well it would be impossible logistically to get it done in time so all eligible voters could vote. They tried so hard to disenfranchise those voters they assumed would vote for Obama and thank goodness we still have at least some nonpartison judges with integrity.
I am in OH and have ALWAYS had to show ID. - As a citizen, you should have one ! nm

The party that is known for voter fraud are the ones screaming about voter fraud. Republican are trying to solve the problems of voter fraud by giving every American citizen the right to vote (and only once), but that's too hard for them to comprehend. They rather have it so illegals, prisoners, dead people, cartoon characters, people voting 26 times and more and everyone in other countries can vote to get their guy in. Everyone that is except the military and conservatives. They want to suppress their votes. That's what ticks them off and now they are screaming because they will have a harder time to commit the fraud.

As they say...there's something wrong with that picture.

Why is providing ID voter suppression? I mean, - its such a ridiculous claim. nm

It's not the ID, it's the TIMING FOR REQUIRING it. Just before a big - election, knowing old and poor will be shut out. N

[ In Reply To ..]
Given a lack of compelling need for a picture ID (ALL these courts have failed to find a compelling reason to implement at once), it would be reasonable to phase in a picture ID requirement over at least several years. Among other benefits, that way many of the most elderly voters would age right past the problem.

Federal Judge To Stein: Go Away.Dec 08, 2016
When I was considering the various candidates, I gave Stein a serious listen, and quickly realized that I probably wouldn't even consult her as a physician, much less entrust her with high office.  The woman's ideas were simply goofy.  ...and the electorate resoundingly said so. Sadly, instead of simply allowing her legacy to be one of many who have aspired to the Presidency but failed, she has forever secured her position among the lowest of political life forms - namely, ...

Another Example Of Fox Mind-control EffortsDec 09, 2010
Media Matters has obtained leaked emails that show how a top Washington editor at Fox News directed his journalists not to use the phrase "public option." Instead, Bill Sammon, Fox News' Washington managing editor, told staffers to use the phrase "government option." This happens to be the exact phrase that Republican pollster Frank Luntz had advised Republicans to begin using to describe the public option -- on Sean Hannity's show, no less. Speaking to Hannity in August 2009, Luntz ...
