A New Year's Resolution for everyone on the forum

Posted: Jan 3, 2016

During 2016, I will:

*  Post no personal insults.

*  Post no insults related to political parties in general, which is the same thing as a personal insult to everyone who belongs to that party.

*  Use no demeaning terms to refer to political parties or their members (e.g. "teabaggers", "commies", etc.)

*  Investigate every issue BEFORE I POST, thoroughly and objectively.

*  Critically assess the veracity and objectivity of my sources of information.

*  Will not deliberately conceal evidence contrary to my position that I am aware of. This is the sin of special pleading when we selectively use evidence to support our position.

Wow, does that take all the fun out of the board, but the conversation would be a lot more useful and actually much more interesting than the blind rants, unexamined positions, baseless claims, etc. that we have now.

And I say that as a republican who is backing Sanders.

I don't care what anyone looks like. I care about their - character and their beliefs.

Could look like the Elephant Man for all I care - and for all you SHOULD care.

How about no censorship from either side - or don't we really believe in free speech?

[ In Reply To ..]
Outside of threats and obscene statements, I don't think people should have to post second-guessing every comment nor should posts should be censored or banned.

Just don't feed the trolls - would be my resolution suggestion... :)

This has nothing to do with freedom of speech. It's about - common courtesy and thoughtful discussion.

(Incidentally, you can't simultaneously argue for "free speech" and against obscenity.)

Boehner Resolution To Probe When Dem Leaders First LearnedMar 11, 2010
and to refer the resolution to the Ethics Committee reached the required simple majority.  The vote breakdown is very interesting.  Bipartisan support on first vote is 402 (dems 240, pubs 162), 1 nay, 15 present and the 14 no votes.  Dems overwhelmingly supported this resoluton with only 1 dissent vote.  This would indicate a high level of confidence among house party members that the process has been fair and above board.  Looks like they are all to eager to ...

President Obama Is Violating The War Powers ResolutionMay 21, 2011
(Make sure you read the last paragraph on pg. 2). The legal license President Obama used to justify U.S. military intervention in Libya expires today, and there's little sign the White House is working quickly to get it renewed. Exactly two months ago, Obama notified Congress of his unilateral decision to engage in "limited military action" to help defend the Libyan people from attacks by their leader, Moammar Gadhafi. But under federal law -- the  ...

So said Rabbi Zalman Melamed on Monday, speaking before hundreds of students and guests at a Hanukkah candle-lighting in the presence of Israel's President Reuven Rubi Rivlin. With a hint of a smile betraying his delight at the eternal inter-generational connections, Rabbi Melamed said: "King David spoke, in his prophetic spirit, about future events. Senate Passes Continuous Resolution Funding Bill Before Leaving Sep 22, 2012
Was watching in the wee hours of the morning this morning.  RTTNews) - The U.S. Senate passed a continuing resolution Saturday to fund the federal government through March of next year, a vital stopgap measure that will also increase the federal budget by 0.6 percent come January. The resolution, the last piece of legislation passed before Congress takes a break to campaign before elections on November 6, passed after Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., dropped calls to cut U.S. aid to Pakistan, Libya ...

2-year-old Kentucky Girl Accidentally Killed By Her 5-year-old Brother May 01, 2013
"A 2-year-old Kentucky girl was accidentally killed by her 5-year-old brother who fired a rifle he had been given as a gift, officials said Wednesday." Parents can be arrested for not reporting a missing child. It's not even legal to let your child drive a car without a permit. Yet, this sad, sad story is unfortunately way too common. We MUST start holding adults accountable for guns in the home. ...

My Understanding Of This ForumFeb 22, 2012
I love to discuss political issues in an intelligent fashion, and I have friends w/ vastly different opinions than my own.  Sure, sometimes it gets a little heated because we are committed to our beliefs.  Thing is, we can sit and discuss the issues w/o calling each other nasty names and judging each other.  Maybe I'm a bit naive, but I can't understand ehy we can't address issues w/o personally attacking each other.  Some of the posts here would make a stellar ...

It Looks Like This Forum Is Aflame. Is It SomethingSep 14, 2012
I heard some of these right-wing Middle Easterners are aflame over Masonic-Jewish conspiracies, which made my hair stand on end. What happens if the crazed Western and Middle Eastern wingnuts realize how much they have in common and start destroying together? Once upon a time, the influence of family and neighbors, the local community in geneal, provided some balance and control, but these days they can band together across vast distances. ...

Just Curious About Non-MTs On This Forum. SmNov 26, 2012
I saw part of a post the other day where someone said there were posters here who are not transcriptionists. How many are there? Guess I just assumed that everyone who frequented here was an MT.  I am just curious why you are hanging around a political forum that is part of a transcriptionist forum.  Obviously, you are allowed to post here, but just find it odd you would want to hang around with us.  LOL.  It must be boring here with so many other political forums to post on. ...

I'll Be Avoiding The Politics Forum While I Prepare To Vote.Oct 24, 2014
The level of political discourse on this forum is petty and childish far more than informative or objective. Maybe one day we'll all learn to break free from our political masters, stop regurgitating the nonsense that they feed us - and (dare I hope?) discover that no party is worthy of blind devotion or has all the right (or wrong) answers. This nation is at a point in its history when we need citizens who know when something is proven and when it isn't, and citizens who cherish pat ...

and throwing their hats into the ring for the upcoming elections next year, I decided to sift through the archives of this board, going back to 2008 election and up to Obama's inauguration.  It was interesting to read all the very heated posts on both sides of the party lines.  In January of 2009, the last thing I posted on the subject of Obama was: "Time will reveal King Obama's inexperience and shortcomings." It made me wonder, where are all those passionate Obama support ...

New Year's EveJan 01, 2011
Another year has come and gone.  We ended up going to the movies to see the Little Fockers.  It was pretty funny.  We went to the grocery store beforehand to pick up some snacks for today and then grabbed dinner at a fast food place the kids picked. Overall, it was a pretty good evening.  I went to bed about 11:30 (I tried but could not stay awake), but the kids stayed up till a little after 12 with DH.  After that, they went off to bed.  I'm actually looking ...
