317 million reasons to love Obamacare

Posted: Apr 1, 2014

"More than 6 million Americans signed up for Obamacare before the March 31 deadline to get private health insurance through the Affordable Care Act exchanges. This is great news for the Obama administration.

But there are millions more reasons to celebrate Obamacare. Actually, at the writing of this essay, there are more than 317 million reasons — because that's the population of the United States of America and every single one of us can benefit from health care reform. How? Here's a rundown by the numbers:"

Kohn was raised in Allentown and left to pursue a bachelor's degree in psychology from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. She graduated from New York University School of Law with a juris doctor in 2002, and also has a master's degree in public administration from Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service. Kohn was a Root Tilden public service scholar at the New York University School of Law.

How dare she waste a juris doctor and a couple of masters degrees on public service instead of lining the pockets of corporate America. Shame on her! LOL

The entire foundation of this debacle is built on fraud and lies.

No thanks. Unless you are into propaganda - sm

There is no reason for anyone to read this "beginning to end" unless you enjoy propaganda. She is a tool for the leftist and what I read of the article is written like some marketing tool.

Unfortunately for her, her figures are incorrect. Because of that, the article is not trustworthy. But hey, if you like fairy tales, by all means, go for it.

private health insurance - Laura

[ In Reply To ..]
6.1 million didn't sign up for private health insurance - that figure includes all the people who went on the healthcare.gov site and signed up for welfare.....at least saying they "signed up" may be correct -

You are so wrong. - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
The actual figure is now 7.1 million people that signed up for private insurance, and that number does not include Medicaid expansion. This information is easily found online.

I found the information and the poster you replied to - is correct.

[ In Reply To ..]
And yes, the information was easily found online.

"It's important to remember that 7 million represents only part of the total number of people who have received coverage under the Affordable Care Act: millions more have been covered by state Medicaid expansions, and around 3 million Americans under 26 are now covered under their parents' plans."

http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2014/04/01/more-7-million-americans-have-enrolled-private-health-coverage-under-affordable-care

"The 7.1 million figure does not include the millions who have signed up for coverage through the law's Medicaid expansion, which remains accessible after the end of open enrollment to those who qualify."

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/04/01/health-care-enrollment_n_5071014.html

"Seven million is, in some ways, a rough gauge: the number will only become hard when people pay premiums, and it doesn’t include those with new access to Medicaid or, as the Times points out, those who didn’t use the exchanges."

I need to understand why you think this is a good thing when the majority of Americans don't like it and top American economists are against it as well. Could it be because it will bankrupt the country? Could it be that it means too much government interference in our lives? Or is it that you are correct and I am to believe you?
Please refer to the article posted. - sm

Your question has been answered quite nicely in the article entitled "317 million reasons to love Obamacare." If you don't understand it after reading that article, there really is nothing left to say.
Look at the post below. - It's all lies.
[ In Reply To ..]
Nothing more to say here either.
Well there lies the problem - poster you replied to
[ In Reply To ..]
You are citing sources that have been lying to everyone.

Now, not saying there is anything wrong with that, if you are into propaganda, but if you want to get to the truth/facts you need to go to independent sources.

7.1 million people is an outright lie. Period. Heck why don't they just say a hundred billion trillion people have signed up. People are not stupid, which is what they are hoping for. We do our research, we don't get our information from the people who are lying to us.

If you are going to keep posting propaganda, no, you don't need to go on.
You are absolutely correct!! - Thank you!!!

who were perfectly happy with what they already had? And now find that they can't keep their doctor.

And let's not forget that the Medicaid numbers are also skewed. They included people who had already been on Medicaid and re-upped, not all new people.

Obamacare = Shell Game and Ponzi Scheme - It will destroy America.

We are only seeing the beginning. Progressive liberal democrats need to be ousted. Sane, rational democrats and republicans need to run for office to keep a balance. This country needs two parties, not a socialist dictator with a bunch of mindless congressional followers.

Politicians don't control the country anyway. What little vote I have is with my pocketbook. As much as is humanly possible, I boycott products and services of all the corporations that DO control the country, and try to stick to small mom & pop businesses to give my hard-earned dollars to. Whenever possible, I don't buy new, I buy used. And whenever possible, I don't take checks, only cash.

So I plan on casting my vote to help get the money-grubbing DANGEROUS Republicans voted OUT.

CBO Says Obamacare Will Cost 2 Million Jobs' Worth Of Dec 10, 2015
Yes, that's right.  Enough hours will be lost to equal 2 million jobs. The further we get with implementing Obamacare, the clearer it becomes that it's a total bust, with exchanges failing, costs going through the roof -  and now this from the CBO, not some right-wing nutjob.  It's unlikely that there are many conservatives who are surprised.  In fact, it's all going down exactly as we predicted.   Even so, it never fails to stun liberals when ...

Approximately 6.5 million taxpayers paid $3 billion in Obamacare penalties for not having health insurance in 2016, according to preliminary data from the Internal Revenue Service Commissioner John Koskinen. Beginning in 2014, the Affordable Care Act’s individual mandate required that Americans purchase health care coverage or pay a penalty to the Internal Revenue Service. While the number of taxpayers paying the penalty has declined since 2014, the total amount in penalties paid to th ...

January 8, 2015:  As the U.S. Supreme Court prepares to hear a case that could prove to be a fatal blow against the Affordable Care Act, aka Obamacare, a new study has concluded that the consequences of striking down the law's subsidies for low- and middle-income individuals will result in a sharp drop in the number of Americans with health insurance, as well as a steep rise in premiums.  Link:  http://www.bloomberg.com/politics/articles/2015-01-08/study- ...

Obamacare - Ya Gotta Love It. Crippled Child Mar 21, 2015
I'm linking the article below, but first a comment.  My better half is a coder but works half of the day getting authorizations for treatment.  The clinic (3 docs) is having to consider hiring a full-time person just to do this, because it's become almost impossible to get authorization even for patients who have been on certain meds and treatment protocols for years and literally need them to stay alive or, in other cases, to have any kind of a life at all. Obamacare Meltdown Has Arrived. Tennessee Is Ground Zero For Obamacare'sOct 07, 2016
last month the state insurance commissioner, Julie Mix McPeak, approved premium increases of up to 62% in a bid to save the exchange set up under the Affordable Care Act. “I would characterize the exchange market in Tennessee as very near collapse,” she said. Obamacare Is Failing From Behind... His Goals For ObamacareJul 20, 2016
1) Have it collapse so that single payer can be implemented amidst the ensuing chaos. 2) Have that happen on somebody else’s watch. Obamacare was designed to fail so the Democrats could “reform” it with complete government provided socialized medicine. That is the entire purpose for it. Obamacare is designed to collapse so they can backfill the vacuum with government run socialized medicine. Eventually, everyone will be on some form of Medicare. I believe that was one of Bernie’ ...

10 Reasons Not To Get The Flu ShotOct 27, 2010
The verdict is out on flu shots. Many medical experts now agree it is more important to protect yourself and your family from the flu vaccine than the flu itself. Let’s take a look at the reasons behind this verdict: 1.) There is a total lack of real evidence that young children even benefit from flu shots.  A systematic review of 51 studies involving 260,000 children age 6 to 23 months found no evidence that the flu vaccine is any more effective than a placebo. Also the shots are on ...

Reasons To ChooseOct 08, 2016
Looking over the posts on the political board, I am stunned by the vitriolic posts. For the top office in the land, we are hiring someone for 4 years. We are the interviewer and the employer. Reasons Not To Dismantle/Destroy MedicareApr 12, 2011
I was just thinking about the long-term ramifications of dismantling or changing Medicare so that it does not cover healthcare needs of the elderly. She informed us, to my shock and horror, that the Soviets pretty much included what they liked in the history books and left out everything else.
