5 reasons to say no to amnesty!

5 Reasons Illegal Immigrants Shouldn't Be Given American Citizenship
John Hawkins

Over the last few months most conservatives have quite naturally been distracted by Barack Obama's frightening incompetence, his elephantine spending, and his zealous attempts to swallow as much of the private sector as the government beast can stuff down its gaping maw. But while the cat's away, the mice will play. The little feet you may have been hearing pitter-patter back into the public square? They belong to advocates of amnesty for illegal aliens. Oh, they don't necessarily call it that. They call it comprehensive immigration reform, earned legalization, a path to citizenship -- but, it all amounts to the same thing: rewarding people for breaking our laws.

On behalf of the overwhelming majority of the conservative movement and the American people, let me say, "Not just ‘no,’ but ‘Hell, no’" to giving illegal immigrants American citizenship.

Now, I know what the response to this will be: "You must hate Hispanics!" Actually, it doesn't matter where the illegals are from; they're not welcome here. But, but, but...it'll help the GOP with Hispanics to support amnesty! Tell that to John McCain, who bombed with Hispanics despite being the Republican most associated with amnesty. Well, then you must not want any immigrants in this country! What a despicable argument. Comparing an illegal alien to someone who loves and respects this country enough to come here the right way is like comparing a burglar to an adopted son.

Let me tell you exactly why illegal immigrants shouldn't be given American citizenship.

1) It will only encourage more illegal immigrants to come here. We've already had a "one time only" amnesty deal for illegals. It occurred during the Reagan Administration and the idea was supposed to be that we'd allow the illegals who were here to become citizens and we'd simultaneously beef up security to try to keep the problem from occurring again. Well, guess what? That very bipartisan sounding compromise didn't work. To the contrary, it failed miserably. So why in the world would anyone who actually wants to stop illegal immigration want to try something that has already been proven to be counterproductive? We have far more illegals in America today than we did when the "one time" amnesty went through. Do we want 20 million illegals here when the next amnesty goes through? 30 million? Are we going to be accused of racism if we say the next huge wave of illegals shouldn't be given citizenship either? Where does it end?

2) Illegal aliens take jobs from American citizens. The economy stinks. American citizens are out of work. People are going out every day looking for jobs to support their family and they're coming home empty handed. Meanwhile, there are illegal aliens in this country holding jobs that American citizens would otherwise have. "Oh, but those are jobs Americans won't do!" There's no such thing. There's no job in this country that couldn't be filled if every illegal disappeared tomorrow -- but, here's the catch: the crooked business owners who are knowingly hiring the illegals might have to pay what the job is worth instead of hiring people who let everyone else pay their health care, pay their car insurance, and pay their share of the taxes.

3) We're importing poverty. It's no secret that the majority of illegals are uneducated manual laborers. In fact, that's supposed to be one of their selling points, isn't it? Don't advocates of amnesty say we need illegals to do the dirty, hard, manual labor that "Americans won't do?" But even if that were true, which it’s not, people with very limited skills often turn into liabilities for a society as they age. There aren't a lot of people picking oranges and scrubbing floors at fifty years old. In other words, in order to help crooked business owners get cheap labor today, the rest of society has to be burdened with people who are going to cost society far more than they ever pay in taxes. Are American taxpayers so unburdened that we want to actually bring in even more people to carry on their backs?

4) It rewards bad behavior. It's against the law to enter this country illegally. It's against the law to buy fake documents or steal someone's social security number. It's against the law not to pay your taxes. So after all of that, we're going to give people citizenship? What message does that send to all the immigrants filling out reams of paperwork, paying out significant chunks of their paychecks, and waiting for years in their home countries to finally achieve their dream of becoming an American citizen? Here's the message it sends: You're a chump! This is something you don't normally have to say to people north of five years old, but it's not smart to reward bad behavior and punish good behavior.

5) It cheapens and demeans our country. Is this Cuba? Is this Afghanistan? Is this Rwanda? Are we such a garbage dump of a nation that we have to desperately give citizenship to anybody and everybody we can find? Newsflash: This is the greatest nation God has seen fit to raise up in the history of mankind. We can not only have the cream of the crop from other nations; we can ask them to wait in line, obey our laws, and prove themselves -- and the ones worth having will do it because this is the place people all over the world dream of coming one day. American citizenship is a precious thing and it shouldn't be given to people whose first act upon American soil was to violate our laws.

That assumption is partially correct. There are citizens that will not "stoop that low" to take a manual, back breaking job in the fields or in processing plants, be it vegetable or meat.

What some of the above citizens don't realize is that those jobs (except for farm labor) pay at least minimum wage or more for jobs of that nature. As for farm labor, it's a hot, dirty job and those that do it deserve respect for doing it. When the Farm Labor Union came about, it was because of the conditions (treatment of the workers) and I applaud them for that.

But, it still is not an excuse to hire illegals to do the job. Companies that knowingly hire illegals do it to keep more money for themselves. Their excuse is they didn't know they were illegal. That's why the E-Check program was so important, verifying legal citizens. There would have been no excuse then. Isn't that why that piece of legislation also sink?

Every time a piece of legislation comes up that companies, legal thieves (insurance), attorneys, healthcare organizations do not like, watch them pump thousands of $$ into the campaigns.

Keep an eye on our "leaders" who are for amnesty. Their pockets will fill up with contributions, while those against will get nada.

I am all for legal means by which to enter any country, for sure. But I can't help but wonder if you've considered (or Rush or Hawkins for that matter) the enormous amount of unclaimed revenue generated by the illegally working people in the US, that are given a legal paycheck, but cannot file for their income taxes? They can't collect SS. You know what happens to the billions of dollars? It is put right back into the US government.

Statistics have shown over and over that this money offsets the "tax burden" created by this population. Border town studies like in San Diego and Texas RELY on getting funding for schools, hospitals, social services. from the goverment from the "illegal" populations! Research that. It is absolutely ignorant to believe that all people who are here illegally get paid under the table. That in fact is a very small portion. Most US businesses cannot and will not risk the fines that come with breaking that law.

The belief that illegal migrants are exploiting the US economy and that they cost more in services than they contribute to the economy is "undeniably false". "undocumented immigrants actually contribute more to public coffers in taxes than they cost in social services" and "contribute to the U.S. economy through their investments and consumption of goods and services; filling of millions of essential worker positions resulting in subsidiary job creation, increased productivity and lower costs of goods and services; and unrequited contributions to Social Security, Medicare and unemployment insurance programs

Your #5 is just plain ugly and borders vulgar racism, that because we still open our doors and haven't yet found a way to control or enforce immigration laws that what we get is plain garbage?? Nice.

I think it's time to stop taking it so personally and wearing the banners of racists and "I'm so much better and smarter than everyone else" and demand that the government do something fair and do something soon.

These are sad times for our nation. We should put the blame smack where it belongs, on our government. Not on the ppl who are coming here. Heck, If my country was crudy, I'd probably want to flee also.

Right now, because of recent blooding, my basement is toxic. There is mold growing on every wall. I can't afford to have someone come in and remediate the mold. Therefore, I'm looking for some place that I can bring my dogs and my horse. I like dinner at 7 and definitely require my own room. Sometimes my son stays with me, too, but that's only when he's out on parole. I'm sure that won't inconvenience you too much. I'll give you $10/month to offset my living expenses, which seems pretty fair since you'll have the joy of diversifying your household with the unique cultural identity I bring with me. I'm sure you won't mind that the volume I have to watch television at is pretty loud; consider it another taste of my cultural flavor!! I'll also need a parking place for my car, my pickup, and my horse trailer, but if you've got a front lawn I can just put them there; I'm sure you and your neighbors don't mind; if they don't like it, they're free to move. Also, I only communicate in notes; hopefully you won't mind doing the same so that I can feel comfortable and welcomed in my new home!

So, illegals are given a "legal pay check because most businesses cannot and will not risk the fines"?  Pray tell, how they do that if they have hired illegals? They are already risking fines by hiring illegals.  If businesses are taking taxes out of illegals, it probably doesn't wind up with the government. It probably winds up in their pockets.

Think about it. Do you have true firsthand proof of the above? I sure would like to know how this is accomplished.

It is also a known fact that illegals do drain health resources by getting free health care, food stamps, and housing help from those who 'protect' them.

Lastly, there's no reason to blast anyone for their opinion.

BTW, a person going to the naturalization process must pay taxes. Illegals do not. There's a big difference there.

Never Mind. I answered my own question. Yes, illegals do pay taxes. - Backwards Typist

This article is from 2006 but still applies:

The recent debate on the issue of illegal immigration has led some to question whether or not undocumented immigrants pay taxes, and if so, how much. A story from KRQE in Albequerque combines this hot-button issue with another current top story – income tax filing -- and sheds some light on the growing number of undocumented immigrants filing a return with the IRS. From KRQE:

The IRS has seen an increase in the number of tax returns filed using an Individual Tax Identification Number.

The system originally was designed for people living abroad who had investments in the US. But it quickly is becoming used by undocumented workers who aren't eligible for Social Security numbers.

Last year, 1.4 million people filed tax returns using the numbers. That's an increase of 40 percent over the previous year.

In 2003, 7,600 people in New Mexico requested the numbers.

For opponents of illegal immigration, the system shows the federal government's fractured approach to the country's undocumented work force.

Immigrant-rights groups say paying taxes is one way immigrants show they want to comply with US laws.

The question of how much illegal immigrants pay in taxes is not always clear cut because attempts to answer it suffer from the same common problems that persists when trying to allocate the incidence of any tax – who the law says must pay (statutory incidence) and who actually pays (economic incidence). In addition, like most estimates pertaining to undocumented immigrants, the numbers are all over the map.

It is true that many undocumented immigrants pay payroll taxes (i.e. FICA and Medicare) using either an invalid Social Security number or a Tax Identification Number (TIN), and empirical evidence tends to show that a large fraction of the economic incidence of these taxes falls on workers.

Some of these same individuals also pay income taxes, assuming their reported adjusted gross incomes are high enough to where they actually have a positive liability. Certain legal questions such as the proper filing status most likely exists as well, and mixing a complicated tax system with the complicated issue of undocumented workers can cause nightmares for willing accountants and law enforcement.

But even if one is paid “under the table” where neither the employer nor employee report the income to the IRS, other taxes are paid by illegal immigrants. This would include mainly sales taxes on items purchased in most states and localities. Only states with most likely few undocumented individuals -- Alaska, Montana, Oregon, New Hampshire, and Delaware -- do not have a statewide sales tax. The incidence of sales taxes varies by product, but in terms of essential products that low-income immigrants are most likely to purchase (i.e. food, clothing, etc.), they tend to be highly inelastic, meaning the burden mostly falls on the them as the consumer.

Corporate income taxes could also be paid in part by illegal immigrants. The burden of any corporate tax will fall on a combination of three parties: workers, consumers, and/or shareholders. While illegal immigrants tend to not be active investors, they are often workers and consumers, so they do bear a fraction of that burden.

Overall, while some illegal immigrants may work in the black market, avoiding taxes entirely is not practically possible. Even those illegal immigrants who may be involved in other illegal activities like drug smuggling/dealing ultimately pay some tax when they use that income to purchase goods.

While some argue that illegal immigrants do not pay their fair share of taxes compared to the value of government services they receive, this is partially a normative question that needs to be accompanied by more empirical evidence to support or refute. But to answer the question, "Do illegal immigrants pay any taxes?" the answer is clearly yes.
