Posted: Aug 27, 2014

Every state is listed in the link, but to keep the post shorter, I decided to do the best and worse.

Please note which party's governor runs the states. Especially note numbers 1, 2, 49 & 50.

California really stands out... - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
Once considered the equivalent of the 6th largest economy of the world (that is, if California was a country), and look at it now. Really sad for California. A lot of jobs in this state have gone to Texas. We can all learn from Texas' example. Thank you for posting this.

A lot of these companies that relocate to other - states offshore a lot of their jobs. (SM)

[ In Reply To ..]
I'll take CA any day, for better or for worse, than Texas. The only "example" it sets is that carrying guns and shooting anything that moves is somehow "cool." You can have Texas.

It is now considered only - the 8th largest economy in the world

[ In Reply To ..]
Yeah, not so bad I think.

Arnie really did a job on it, I think, but for the last few years it has been getting better, despite raising income tax. In fact, they have disproved the right wing talking points and have actually had much better job growth AFTER raising the income tax.

Well, I'll be darn. I didn't know about it being the 8th. - THANK YOU!

Guess I should have checked before I posted. Someone is liable to accuse me of working for Fox.

Income taxes pay for infrastructure, and doing - infrastructure work creates jobs. nm

Corporations are paying low wages - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
and sending jobs overseas without contributing to the highways their delivery trucks drive on, not paying a living wage to their employees in US, creating environmental pollution that everyone has to live with, all while paying their executives huge salaries that they keep in Cayman and offshore bank accounts.

If corporations "are people" as according to the Supreme Court, they should be paying their fair share. I could not believe it--even John McCain said the "corporations are people" decision was an absolutely terrible decision.
Corporations...... - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
The U.S. corporate tax rate is 40%, the highest in the world except for United Arab Emirates at 55%. As far as the infrastructure, the corporations contribute big time. Since those taxes go to the federal government, perhaps you should take that up with them and ask them where your new highways and byways are. Corporations aren't allowed to build them (that little thing called regulations, ya know), even though I'm all for private built roads and bridges. They would be kept in far better shape. The federal government is where the money goes down a rat hole, lining pockets. Demand they be held accountable for where our money goes. Its always entertaining to see how many people jump on the "those bad corporations" bandwagon but never open their mouths about the wasteful government spending of OUR taxes. Corporations do pay good wages but when they're gone, then complain to your government for over taxing and over regulating.
If the corporate tax rate is 40%, why do they pay nothing? - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
or next to nothing? Perhaps because Boehner and Walker give them so many tax loopholes. That 40% is a joke.
Sure they pay it........ - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
For those jealous folks that want to believe what they hear, they choose to believe they don't pay taxes. Now, do they have loopholes? No doubt they do. But since I keep hearing the pretend moaning from liberals on this, because they know the ignorant will repeat it, let us keep in mind that our democrat MAJORITY senate is just full of those tax evading liberals and haven't made any attempt to close those loopholes. Wonder why! Duh.... On the other hand, I don't believe anyone should be paying taxes at all to our corrupt government. Those that don't pay federal income taxes, nearly half in this country, really don't have a horse in the race and should keep their mouths shut about things they know nothing about.
Democrats have made several attempts to close the tax loopholes. - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
In your infinite wisdom, you think that people who pay no federal income taxes "know nothing about" corporate income taxes. This is truly dizzying logic, especially in view of the fact that you also "don't believe anyone should be paying taxes at all." So you summarily dismiss the opinion of the very people you wish we all could be. Interesting concept. Tell me, if a person managed to succeed in zeroing out their tax bill, would they then suddenly become ignorant of tax laws?

At any time whatsoever did you consider the fact that some of those people that pay less/no federal income taxes and some of those corporations that pay less/no corporate income taxes, far from being ignorant, are using every loophole in the book to avoid paying taxes and are weathly taxpayers employing the best accountants and tax geniuses that money can buy? I'll bet it didn't.

You don't have to be a liberal to know about the many attempts of the Democrats in the senate to close the tax loopholes, you just have to be educated and pay the slightest attention. (see link)

You don't have to be a large corporation exploiting every tax loophole in the book to know about the actual rates corporations are paying versus the 15% to 39% rates called for in the US tax code, you just have to be educated. Since corporations only pay taxes of on US PROFITS, then offshoring those profits is the mother of all tax loopholes.

http://www.google.com/url?url=http://www.americansfortaxfairness.org/files/Corporate-Tax-Dodgers-Report-Final.pdf&rct=j&frm=1&q=&esrc=s&sa=U&ei=3IT_U7-HMtKRgwSMoYLoAg&ved=0CCwQFjAE&usg=AFQjCNEfDm27EW2-J_ELqXWbmceB1ADSGg

Corporations receive all the benefits of being sheltered from liability by virtue of being corporations, they have now also been designated as "people" by the SCOTUS and enjoy those benefits, and certain closely held corporations have now been declared as able to enjoy the benefits of religious entities.

Poor whiny corporate America has it so bad, right? Boo hoo.
That's laughable if you really believe it..... - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Out of the 10 wealthiest people in congress, 7 of them are Demwits....... you really think they are going to close their own loopholes that enable them to keep their wealth? Seriously?! Demwits have majority and it hasn't happened and it won't! Now we will all hear about how they are "trying" to close up those mean 'ol loopholes because there will always be demwit followers that will believe it. Delusion is a wonderful thing for those that wanna believe. You think none of them are putting their monies offshore? Good grief.
What is laughable is your inability to make a post that doesn't - contain name calling. - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
What is laughable is that you stated that the Democrat Senate is doing nothing to close the loopholes, yet they have done and continue to do so. What is laughable is that you think throwing out numbers like 7 of the 10 wealthiest in Congress are Democrats and that somehow proves your point about the Senate! If you think 10 people in the Senate and the House are the only ones driving tax policy, then you might want to take a look past those top 10.

Based on this logic, let's look at the top 50 wealthiest in Congress. Out of the top 50, there are 29 Republicans and 21 Democrats, and #1 and #2 at the top of the rich list are both Republicans. It proves absolutely nothing.

You can throw out all the numbers you want that implicate either party, but limiting your ridicule of politicians that won't close tax loopholes to Democrats is the most laughable claim of all.

You laugh all you want; Democrats could not care less. When the Republicans come up with some bills to close the tax loopholes while the Democrats refuse to consider them, then you can sit in judgment and take the moral high ground.

The fact that you think corporate tax reform and closing of corporate loopholes will never happen is perhaps the most delusional statement of all. When some of the tax loopholes are finally closed by bipartisans in Congress, it will be a step in the right direction regardless of when that day comes, but I can assure you that it will come.
It's all they know how to do. The certainly don't - have any clue how to run a country.

I know when corporations became people because it is contained in a decision by the SCOTUS. Hey, we know you never miss an opportunity to bash the Obamas, but please explain to us all at what point the Obamas became US corporations using offshoring to avoid tax liability.

In what universe does an individual taxpayer holding investments in a corporation that is using tax loopholes to skirt their US taxes equal being the actual corporation doing it?
Thank you Truthhurts for posting the truth - But you do know though

Those same CEOs who pay themselves millions while patting themselves on the back for offshoring our jobs and cutting our pay.

No thanks, not a very good way to rate things IMHO.

It is a known fact that the big job boom in Texas is all minimum wage jobs, that's why the CEOs love it so much, the deregulation of the environment and working conditions means you can pretty much do whatever you want.

Another thing is if you look at the "top business states" many of those are the highest in poverty and the worst for workers, in fact all 10 are right-to-work states which is not a good thing for workers.

By all means, explain why you think we should agree with CEOs.

I'm surprised they don't list India as the "#1 - state" to do business in. ;)

[ In Reply To ..]
That's where most of those big, greedy companies get their employees.

Corporate Pubs would make it state #51 - but

[ In Reply To ..]
but then they would have to pay their fair share towards the infrastructure in their home country.
As a lifelong Californian, it's no skin off my nose - if those companies leave. (s/m)
[ In Reply To ..]
First off, most of those are tech or management jobs that most of us don't qualify for, anyway.

Secondly, huge companies like that bring flood of highly-paid workers with them, which at first SEEMS like a good deal, since you figure they're paying more into the state's tax base. But of course, at the very top, they're NOT paying into the tax base at all.

All those high-paid workers come in and ruin the quality of life for those who've lived here all their lives, and have roots and a history here.

Gentrification starts happening. At first glance, some people think that's a good thing. But it's not. Pretty soon there's no diversity of culture anymore, and your sparkling-clean, tech-money city is sterile and bland.

Look at what companies like Google, Facebook, HP and others are doing to the San Francisco Bay Area. Apartment owners in SF are evicting long-term, rent-controlled tenants, artist's lofts, senior apartment complexes, etc. in favor of turning them into high-priced condos to sell or rent to the Nuveau Rich of Silicon Valley.

Google busses now clog Muni bus areas in SF, causing the city bus system to run late due to competition for space. They even have their own Google ferry. And of course, the parks, cafés and public squares are filled with rude hipster "Glassholes" rather than a mix of rich and poor, tech worker and musician, artist and waitress, etc.

I lived in the Silicon Valley until Facebook moved in. Things were already tough, apartment-wise, due to the presence of Google, HP, Oracle and Stanford. But Facebook was pretty much the last straw. Rents in the area skyrocketed, and I was evicted from my apartment of almost 20 years so that the greedy landlords could triple the rent.

So yes, all you Red States that are singing the siren song to California corporations - you just keep right on doing it. Then maybe life around here will get more back to normal, and the state will become livable again.
...and we'd love to have them. Come on down! - Texan (sm)

Are eviction notices any different than any other part of the country? - Truthhurts
[ In Reply To ..]
Every other part of the country has strict rules for eviction.

Even in NYC, it's almost impossible to evict someone in a rent-controlled property. In fact, families used to inherit those rent-controlled properties.Don't know if it's still true on the inheritance, but it's easy to check.

It happens every day in San Francisto, thanks - to all the Ellis Act evictions.

Who is #1 on that world's economy list? - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
That's right, it's the United States, and it has been the United States for 140 years. Who is #2 this year? China.

California was actually once the 5th largest economy if it was a country, and Texas used to be 10th. Now California has fallen to 9th, and Texas is still beneath California on that list having also fallen to #14.

Guess who might take the #1 spot on that list this year after the U.S. has dominated it for so long? That's right, China. When that happens, we'll no doubt hear all the Obama haters screaming at the top of their lungs about how it's all Obama's fault, right? And when that happens we can all think back to this very nice list--where the party affiliation was not actually there but then provided by Truthhurts (thank you)--that illustrates that actually we have the fatcat CEOs to thank for it because they hate regulation and they love states that let them get away with polluting the environment and allowing employers free reign over the labor in their states, and they love countries where they can get away with even more and pay the employees even less. Sure Texas turns a blind eye to Big Business's treatment of labor and the environment and ranks dead last in all kinds of negative statistics, but you can't even breathe the air in China, and they don't give a hang if the levels are toxic and it forces people into their homes for days on end. Now that there is a place that Big Business likes even more than Texas and the other 9 red states on the CEOs' favorite states list. California is merely proof that you can be a blue state that is a very unfavorable state, dead last at #50, in the eyes of the billionaires and CEO types and still rank higher in the world than the stupid red states the CEOs love.

The takeaway from that ranking list is not so much that jobs overall are going from California to Texas (some have), but it's that jobs are going overseas, and we have the idiot CEOs that filled out that questionnaire regarding "what states we like to do business in the most because they turn a blind eye to what we do there to labor and the environment" to thank for it. Those top 10 on that list are the most favorable to Big Business for all kinds of negative reasons, the states that are run by the party of the rich, fatcat CEOs who could care less about the working man and middle class and more about their profits, and we have the Republicans and their governors to thank for it.

What a right-on post.. you smacked that nail - right on the head! nm

Good reason for those rankings..... - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
Businesses want to go to states where they have LESS regulations and taxes, they can find a better workforce, and they look for areas where the families of those that work for them can have a better living environment. I have family in the 3 top states and they always talk about liking the state and surrounding environment better. So for the jealous haters out there, don't blame the 'pubs', as you put it. Remember, LOTS of DEMS work for them! :-) Their politics seem to stop at their paycheck, huh? Many relocate to those states for just those reasons. We've lived in 2 of them and the cost of living is much much better.

I'm so glad your family likes the red states. - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
Please do take your one family's experience and their limited view of a state the size of Texas (or pick your choice) and try to apply that to the entire population in order to prove a point. LOL. Your family's experience in the red states proves that anyone that doesn't agree with your viewpoint is nothing more than a "jealous hater."

Pay no attention to the fact that Texas is:
* Second in percentage of uninsured children.
* Worst/50th in high school graduation rate.
* Worst/50th in carbon emissions.
* Worst/50th in hazardous waste produced.
* Worst/50th in percentage of people without health insurance.

My family loves it!

Michelle Obama’s complete u-turn when describing an interaction with a white lady asking for her help reaching groceries is not the first time she has used her status to misguidedly cry racism. Indeed, in May, the Inquisitr reported how Obama urged high school students to monitor their family and ...

He Fought In WWII, He Died In 2014 And He Just Registered To Vote In VAOct 04, 2016
RICHMOND — The FBI and local police are investigating how at least 19 dead Virginians were recently re-registered to vote in this critical swing state. One case came to light after relatives of a deceased man received a note congratulating him for registering, Rockingham County Commonwealth’s Attorney Marsha Garst said Thursday. “His family members were very distraught,” said Garst, who confirmed the existence of the FBI and police investigation but said she could provide few detai ...

State-by-state Map Of Climate ChangeJun 13, 2012
The below link is to an article that has a map showing the temperature changes by state since 1970. This is not necessarily a political issue in itself, but our response to it is. I live in one of the states that is showing the most change. Due to my way of life, I have been very conscious of the weather changes in my lifetime. I first started noticing thunderstorms in January. We should only be having blizzards in January--it was kinda fun. Then we started having tornadoes in September an ...

Worst Of US Recession OverOct 12, 2009
The worst U.S. recession since the Great Depression has ended, but weak household spending as the labor market struggles to create jobs will slow the pace of the economy's recovery, according to a survey released on Monday. The survey of 44 professional forecasters released by the National Association of Business Economists (NABE) found that 80 percent of the respondents believed the economy was growing again after four straight quarters of declines. "The great recession is over," said NA ...

Worst Haircut Ever!!Feb 05, 2011
I had an appointment to get my hair cut yesterday.  When I got there, they told me that my stylist was in the hospital and they had tried to call me but no one ever answered the phone.  I told her that my answering machine would have picked up but she said it never did.  They said that someone else could do it and I came so close to saying I wanted to reschedule but I was there, had not washed my hair that morning and my bangs were hanging in my eyes.  They told me that this ...

Worst Gift Ever?Dec 06, 2010
I got this from another board and it was actually funny to read. When we got married 18 years ago we got a plunger from my mom's friend thou she did get us another gift also that one was just funny. We got margaritia glasses and neither us were old enough to drink either. I used those for dessert glasses for a bit but ended up over time breaking them. I can't think of any really really bad gifts but those 2 stick out in my mind for some reason. So what has been yours? ...

My Worst NightmareJan 25, 2015
My worst nightmare is to wake up day after elections and find we have another Bush or Clinton in the WH. This is why I am for the people picking out the representative for both parties. I am sick of monied people and those considering themselves more knowing than the rest of us (elites) picking and choosing our next president. We hire the president and everyone else in the Congress, etc. Why is it we can't pick our own choice for candidate. Something is wrong with this picture. ...

I Am The Worst Neighbor In The WorldApr 13, 2010
If I could buy a cabin in the Rocky Mountains on 40 acres of land, I would.  Except I can't. I live in apartments because that is my only financial option (long story, lots of people have a similar one), so I really should try to accept my situation and live a happy life.  Except I just want things the way I want things and I believe since I've been single and working from home since 1997, I have become a hermit crab and like it enough I am not motivated to change. My downs ...

Now I've Seen The Worst Of The Left But I Bet I Haven't.Feb 25, 2017
"Pray on your own time!" some shouted during the minister's opening prayer, which has been done at town halls since time imemorial. I have no problem with anyone showing up to a town hall meeting and respectfully expressing their opinions.  I'd expect that from either side of the aisle.  This behavior - the depth of my disgust is simply inexpressible.  ...and I'm betting they wouldn't have shouted down an imam.     ...
