2 Firefighters dead. More Carnage.

The man didn't have a license for the assault rifle, as he spent time in prison for killing his grandmother.

I know banning assault rifles won't immediately solve anything. There are already so many in possession. But as gun companies stop making them and they get harder and harder to obtain, they WILL gradually become less prevelent.

Keep your shotguns. Keep your handguns. But let's compromise and ban the military style weapons. No one needs them. This is not a video game.

It is possible for us to look back in 50 years and wonder why it took us so long to welcome change. I, for one, would like to see that evolution.

Not that their deaths were "the NRA's fault," per se, but they did not die "in a fire." Unless you view death by gunfire as a type of fire.

The problem lies herein, not with the rifle, but with the crazed men who "set the blaze". The problem is not with the guns. The problem is with sick individuals. If they didn't have guns they would have tried to kill them another way.

Control people, control. That's what it boils down to. Their control over what you do.

Personally, I don't believe anyone needs assault rifles, but if they didn't have assault rifles they'd use another type of weapon. Most of them don't get them legally either. Then you take away other types of weapons they'll think of another way to kill. They are sick in the head. Doesn't matter to them what way they commit the crime, they'll still do it and find their way around it.

So, you like government in control of what you can and cannot own, what's next?

...what some mentally unstable people can and cannot own -- yes, I do, actually. I also like better healthcare for our mentally ill. I also like restrictions on the violence that people can perform without consequence, from a very early age, via some of the horrific video games that are on the market. I also like parents doing a better job of raising their children to be well-adjusted, happy, productive members of society and getting the proper help for them when development warrants it.

But the main point I was trying to make, above, is that the firefighters did not die "in a fire" as a previous poster stated. They died from the gunshots.

This sounds like a lot of pretzel logic to me. I just think it's intellectually dishonest to say these men were killed in a fire. On top of it, had the shooter not had the advantage of high power and long range, the victims might have had better odds.

The fact that there are myriad ways to commit crimes doesn't mean we shouldn't try to avoid making it easy. Knife enthusiasts can own Samurai swords, but they can't take them into their local bank or daycare, for example.

Furthermore, there are plenty of things I cannot legally purchase, for I have no appropriate use or license for them. I do not have a blood centrifuge. I do not have a gamma knife. I frankly doubt that I could buy a colonoscope.

Anyone else watch Walking Dead on AMC? I have to say, that season finale last night had me holding my breath for the first 25 minutes. Downright horrifying and much better than what TV "horror" fare usually offers, that's for sure! At least at the end they confirmed there is indeed a season 3 in the works and didn't leave us hanging like they did at the end of season 1.
