running shoes

Posted: Aug 22, 2010

I recently started a running program and I love it.  I have had arthroscopic surgery on both knees, left knee 2 years ago, and right knee in 1998 and then again in 2009.  I have tried to take really good care of my knees, but really have been wanting to run for quite awhile now so just decided to do it, because I'm 52, I'm menopausal and gaining weight whereas I've never had a problem with that before, and just for my mental well-being.  I don't do the high-impact running, just jogging really, but do it at a good, steady pace.  My question is, does anyone know of a good running shoe for a person with knee problems such as mine.  I tend to wear out my shoe soles on the outside, seems like that is where my heel strike is.  I only run for about 30 to 50 minutes per day, about 6 to 7 days per week.  I've been to several different shoe stores and have gotten several differing opinions on a good running shoe, and I've done some online research as well, but there seem to be so many options, how does one know?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks so much in advance.  Cool

This may not help you too much, but I would ask your orthopedist or podiatrist, if you have one presently, especially in light of your history of knee problems. It's been my experience that salespeople are never truly knowledgeable about what will work best for someone with any kind of issues. My new personal favorite is Reebok Runtone, but I'm not sure how they would work out for someone with knee issues. I have had some foot issues over the past year or so and these have so much cushioning (to mimic walking on sand)that my aches and pains with walking and jogging have gone away with them. Good luck in your search.

check out the Acics Gelfoam 11 or 12 - Snow Bunny

I've been looking for a pair myself (also have knee problems) and this style seems to have the best overall ratings. But, you need to also find out if you are a pronator (under or over), 'cause that could have an impact on the type of sneaker that you get.

The best I've found so far are at Walmart for $30 and they're Dr. Scholl's running shoes. I've had them now for almost a year and the soles still look new and I run daily.

Knock Off Purses And ShoesMar 29, 2011
Anyone ever buy one of those "designer knock offs", like a purse or shoes?  I live in LA and that is the designer knock off capital of the world!  I bought a knock off of a Birken purse for 30 bucks!  It has crooked stitching on the strap, and the liner inside is shifting a bit, but OMG I think it's so pretty and I love it!   I could never ever shop on Rodeo Drive and buy the real one for 3000 dollars!  I am sooo glad there are knock offs!  BUT!... my si ...

Stereotype That Women Have More ShoesAug 04, 2010
http://www.mainstreet.com/article/sm...s&cm_ven=msIBS We’ve all heard the stereotype that women have more shoes than they know what to do with, but a new study provides some evidence for this claim. According to Glamour, the average woman will buy 469 pairs of shoes in her lifetime. All in all, she will end up spending $25,000 on shoes. So ladies, if you’re looking to cut corners, ditching the shoe addiction might be a good first step. This number comes from a survey of 3,000 ...

What's Going On In Science: Coming (perhaps) ShoesJan 11, 2013
Another one of the products of science that seem too amazing to be true: Researchers at MIT have invented the technological equivalent of Mexican jumping beans. As seen in the video above [at the link], they’ve created polymer films that act like artificial fast-twitch muscles, spontaneously curling up and dancing around in an eerily life-like way. The polymer sheets are specially designed to rapidly expand when they come into contact with water, and contract when they e ...

Question About Skechers ShoesMay 28, 2017
I bought a pair of Skechers slip-on sneakers about a year ago. I made the mistake of wearing them for the first time without socks and developed a big sore on my right heel. Flash forward many months...I wore them again, this time with socks, and developed a big sore again. I've tried different socks, moleskin, etc. The right shoe continues to bother my heel. The left shoe is fine. Does anyone know a magic trick or anything to fix this problem? Thank you. ...

How To Make A Goody Two Shoes Costume As A Joke (sm)Oct 29, 2009
My boyfriend's cousin called me his "goody two shoes" girlfriend when he first met me and now he gets embarassed every time I mention it, so as a joke to him I want to make him a goody-two-shoes costume for my halloween party.  All I can think to do is take a poster board, put elastic on the back, make arm holes, and glue candy and shoes to the front of it, and write goody two-shoes on it.  Does anyone have a better idea??? ...

Tea Partiers: Obama’s A Muslim Because He Takes His Shoes OffApr 06, 2010
By Sahil KapurMonday, April 5th, 2010 -- 10:14 am President Obama's most vigorous opponents have gone to great lengths to paint him as a Muslim, despite all evidence to the contrary. At a recent event, a Tea Party organizer pushed those limits even further. "In the yellow cinder-block meeting room of the Munford, TN, municipal building, the Tipton County Tea Party convened on a recent evening to raise money for billboards, organize a tax day protest and encourage attendance at a state con ...

Anybody Else Here NOT Running The Heat?Dec 06, 2011
Last year I discovered that I could save a lot on my winter electric biill by not running the central heat.  (I live in southern Arizona, and our winters are very miild.) I sleep in a fleece Sofa Sack and fleece socks.  Most nights a lightweight fleece blanket on the bed is just fine, but last night was supercold and tonight will be as well.  A bulky quilt or comforter is not what I'm into (there are space considerations too).  I am looking at either a portable spa ...

Who's Running The TSA? No One, Thanks To Sen. Jim DeMintDec 29, 2009
(More Republican obstructionism and delay. They'd rather destroy the country than cooperate with Obama.) WASHINGTON — An attempt to blow up a trans-Atlantic flight from Amsterdam to Detroit on Christmas Day would be all-consuming for the administrator of the Transportation Security Administration — if there were one. The post remains vacant because Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., has held up President Barack Obama's nominee in opposition to the prospect of TSA workers joining a ...

COMMUNISTS/SOCIALISTS HAVE 2 RUNNING Aug 12, 2012
Since both have strong ties to Hollywood and the massive cash that goes into liberal politicians, not to mention George Soros' off-shore coffers, hard to say who will come out on top.  Since Obama got there first, might be a tough call.  Since Obama and Soros both have a deep-seated aversion towards anything Jewish, I have a feeling Rosie gonna get run over.  Maybe she can sign up for Medicaid through Obamacare - She's gonna need it! ...

Jeb Bush Said He Was Running For PresidentMay 28, 2015
I know it is really difficult for Republicans to realize this, but you don't get to play both sides of the line and get away with it, at least in this much of the limelight. By not declaring his candidacy, Bush is skating a fine legal line. All of those things just mentioned would be violations of campaign finance laws, because an official candidate is not allowed to coordinate with their Super PAC or accept any individual donation over $2,700 per election. So by not “officially ...

Obamacare Funding Running Low For Patients Feb 16, 2013
Tens of thousands of Americans who cannot get health insurance because of preexisting medical problems will be blocked from a program designed to help them because funding is running low. Obama administration officials said Friday that the state-based “high-risk pools” set up under the 2010 health-care law will be closed to new applicants as soon as Saturday and no later than March 2, depending on the state. But they stressed that coverage for about 100,000 people who are now enrolled ...

Executive Branches Are Running AmokDec 03, 2014
People, we need to wake up - and do so before it's too late.  The situation in Washington is becoming dire, and it has nothing to do with what party you might belong to, or what "political philosophy" you might espouse.  This is about the survival of the Great American Experiment in Self-Governance - which is in the ICU on life support at this very moment. This same dynamic is playing out in most states. There are moves to get Congress to, first of all, stop subsidizing these practices with taxpayer dollars, but agribusiness, which never intended to get taxpayer money off its back, just our ability to control what's done with it, has its paid agents, our congressmen, fighting anything that will interfere with profits. Second, of course, is nasty old government "interference" to encourage agribusiness's transition to proven means of growi ...
