knock off purses and shoes

Posted: Mar 29, 2011

Anyone ever buy one of those "designer knock offs", like a purse or shoes?  I live in LA and that is the designer knock off capital of the world!  I bought a knock off of a Birken purse for 30 bucks!  It has crooked stitching on the strap, and the liner inside is shifting a bit, but OMG I think it's so pretty and I love it!

I could never ever shop on Rodeo Drive and buy the real one for 3000 dollars!  I am sooo glad there are knock offs!

BUT!... my sister tells me that it's illegal and perpetuates illegal black market sales and that I shouldn't.  This bad does not have a copy cat label, it was sold in a store.  I don't think it's illegal, just a cheap look alike.  It says "made in China" right on the tag too.

I don't think it's wrong.  any thoughts?

Your sister is correct, they are illegal and people have - been raided before. NM

bag from guy selling stuff out of the trunk of his car. I loved that bag! I could give a rat's behind if it was a knock off or if it was illegal. I would hope that the cops have better things to do then bust some guy selling knock of purses or middle aged women for buying them!

Another great place to find knock offs is at larger flea markets. I love flea markets! When my husband was in the military, he had to do a two-week AT stint in Korea with his reserve unit. He came home with a TON of of designer stuff made in Korea - Nike shoes and gear, leather coats, hand bags. He got it for a fraction of what it would have been sold for in the states.

I see nothing wrong with trying to save a buck. God knows we are being gouged every time we turn around. I don't feel bad at all!

represent a lucrative source of income for terrorist organizations. They buy them from factories in places China, Southeasst Asia, and Bangladesh and smuggle them into Europe and North America where they have a ready source of customers willing to look the other way just to have a "designer" item. That knock off you're buying could very likely be financing a suicide bomber.

Don't believe me? You can research it very easily for yourself.
Seriously, you need to get a grip. Terrorist groups are making - LaLaMT

far more money through the many legitimate businesses they own. You can set up and run a business in the United States WITHOUT being a U.S. Citizen.

I guess under your theory, this summer when you're on vacation and you go to check into a motel, pay attention to whose running the motel and when you stop to fill up your car with gas, look around at whose running the convenience stores. There is a car garage down the road from me owned by an Iraqi, I better not let them inspect my car cuz I could be funding terrorism.

Paranoia self destroy ya.
No, you need to get a grip. A couple months ago, they raided - Backwards Typist

a flea market for knock offs and tied most of those selling the products to drug cartels.

Your theory is wrong on the motels and gas stations too. Those people are checked out by the government prior to buying into businesses because they usually get minority business loans.

It's not paranoia. It's common sense. It's also like the other poster stated about knock offs, plus look at the people in this country that wind up without a job because of knock offs.

How about CD's? Plenty of counterfeit CD's in this country. You don't care that the musician that created the CD doesn't get his royalties from those? It's illegal, pure and simple.

Buy American. That's only one way we can stop black market goods, but it's the best way to support OUR country.

flea markets and the guy in the next booth was selling knock off D&B bags--he was raided and taken off to jail. They had the labels, etc., on them. It is illegal to sell them. Buy them if you want, but if you are buying one during a raid, you are taken away too.

If it doesn't have a copy cat label and was sold in a store - it is not illegal - sm

My thoughts are there are a lot of look a likes out there. As long as they are not putting the designer name on it and selling it in the back streets out of a van there is nothing wrong. If it's pretty and you like it there is nothing wrong. Enjoy your pleasures when you can.

There are a lot of knock offs that are not associated with terrorism or drug cartels. We see them every day in Kmart, Walmart, flea markets and Dillards. Once a designers makes something that the public likes, all kinds of knock offs are produced by a lot of manufactures. That's the good old American way!

I LOVE a good bargain, even if it comes out of the trunk of a car!

Running ShoesAug 22, 2010
I recently started a running program and I love it.  I have had arthroscopic surgery on both knees, left knee 2 years ago, and right knee in 1998 and then again in 2009.  I have tried to take really good care of my knees, but really have been wanting to run for quite awhile now so just decided to do it, because I'm 52, I'm menopausal and gaining weight whereas I've never had a problem with that before, and just for my mental well-being.  I don't do the high-imp ...

Stereotype That Women Have More ShoesAug 04, 2010
http://www.mainstreet.com/article/sm...s&cm_ven=msIBS We’ve all heard the stereotype that women have more shoes than they know what to do with, but a new study provides some evidence for this claim. According to Glamour, the average woman will buy 469 pairs of shoes in her lifetime. All in all, she will end up spending $25,000 on shoes. So ladies, if you’re looking to cut corners, ditching the shoe addiction might be a good first step. This number comes from a survey of 3,000 ...

What's Going On In Science: Coming (perhaps) ShoesJan 11, 2013
Another one of the products of science that seem too amazing to be true: Researchers at MIT have invented the technological equivalent of Mexican jumping beans. As seen in the video above [at the link], they’ve created polymer films that act like artificial fast-twitch muscles, spontaneously curling up and dancing around in an eerily life-like way. The polymer sheets are specially designed to rapidly expand when they come into contact with water, and contract when they e ...

Question About Skechers ShoesMay 28, 2017
I bought a pair of Skechers slip-on sneakers about a year ago. I made the mistake of wearing them for the first time without socks and developed a big sore on my right heel. Flash forward many months...I wore them again, this time with socks, and developed a big sore again. I've tried different socks, moleskin, etc. The right shoe continues to bother my heel. The left shoe is fine. Does anyone know a magic trick or anything to fix this problem? Thank you. ...

Tea Partiers: Obama’s A Muslim Because He Takes His Shoes OffApr 06, 2010
By Sahil KapurMonday, April 5th, 2010 -- 10:14 am President Obama's most vigorous opponents have gone to great lengths to paint him as a Muslim, despite all evidence to the contrary. At a recent event, a Tea Party organizer pushed those limits even further. "In the yellow cinder-block meeting room of the Munford, TN, municipal building, the Tipton County Tea Party convened on a recent evening to raise money for billboards, organize a tax day protest and encourage attendance at a state con ...
