Suggestions for chronic pain

Trying to get by but becoming increasingly UNBEARABLE. Have arthritis pain all over body. Have tramadol but it makes me sleepy and cannot take while working. Anybody know of anything to help get this pain to a manageable level?

Tried glucosamine and chondroitin in the past only to throw it up within 30 minutes. I have a really sensitive stomach.

I've done this, paid for it out of pocket, maybe 6 sessions so far, and it's been a big help with swelling and pain.

I've been on a herbal combination for almost 2 weeks and it's a huge change. swelling and pain are much less, and herbal meds are a great help.

Try to research on line for natural remedies. I know bromelain is supposed to be good, as is black cherry juice, and several other things. I've done a huge amount of research as I was desperate for pain relief. Not bad enough yet for disability, but so bad I do/did have major problems with ADLs. Still do have some problems, but not as much now.

If you can't afford acupuncture, maybe just a one-time consult with a TCM practitioner so they can go over your health history and see if herbs would conflict with anything else you have going on. Or an integrative/alternative medicine practitioner? I believe I read something about Boswellia?

Will check into the herbs and accupuncture.

I too am having a hard time with ADLs because o the pain. This is really limiting my lifestyle and family none too pleased.

...use caution w/herbal remedies. They are not studied as extensively (if at all) as drugs, and it's very hard to find independent studies on them. Many of these meds are just as bad (if not worse) than drugs on the liver and/or kidneys and other things. With regular drugs, at least you know they can be harmful, and you can have your liver and kidneys checked regularly and monitored.

If you do go on herbal meds, have your liver and kidneys checked regularly. Do not depend on the manufacturer of the supplement/remedy to be forthcoming, any more than you would trust the drug company who made a drug to be forthcoming!

A lot of family practioners are opening their minds to accupuncture. My husband has a really, really bad back and doesn't wish to take meds or herbs, shots or surgery, and our practitioner actually recommended an accupuncturist. Of course, no guarantees were made, but it clearly cannot hurt if the accupuncturist knows what he or she is doing.

shown to be no better than placebo. What usually happens with acupuncture is you get a nice nap, in a nice quiet room, on a wonderfully comfortable bed, with a doting therapist. By spreading treatments over several weeks, most self-limiting problems appear to respond to acupuncture, but for the most part just ran themselves out - even pain conditions.

There is actually MORE solid research on herbs (since there are so many herbs). The Americal Botanical Council is one resource you can look up herbs. But a problem with herbs is getting doses strong enough and standardized so you get the same amount each time.

I started on Atkins and when I realized how good I felt was after I blew my diet by eating a bowl of Total of all things. That's when I realized I was sensitive to all kinds of foods and so far have managed to pin down gluten and fructose as problem foods and they both caused increased all-over body pain. Also, I was using Valerian for awhile, the Nature's something or other (just 1 capsule not 3) and that really helped but after a month or so it started to really make my stomach hurt so now I just take it sometimes. It made me sleep really well and I felt wonderful when I got up in the mornings,not stiff like usual. Good luck to you.

Okay, so this isn't earth-shattering, but I'm looking for a solution. My husband is in the retail business and he's always got a wad of keys in his shorts pocket (FL, hence the shorts as opposed to pants!). Anyway, the metal color or whatever it is from the keys leaves stains around the outside of the pocket area that I cannot seem to remove--the metal color like seeps through to the outside. Without going into any details, I've been having to take an enormous amount of pain medications for the past couple of years just to be able to function in my daily activities.
