Any suggestions for RV laptop desk for RV'ing?

Posted: May 3, 2013

I was wondering if anybody had any suggestions.  We have a dinette in our RV (which is too high for comfortable typing height), and we also have a sofa, which is very comfy.  I'mtrying to find a portable, fold-up, table that goes low enough to use it sofa height and can come close enough to be above my lap, not out to the edge--want to sit back on the sofa basically.  Has anybody found anything besides a Tablemate, which I was afraid was too flimsy for holding both my laptop and my extra keyboard and my mouse.  Thanks for any help!

I used a tablemate for a whole winter when I was traveling around with my laptop. Worked great for me.

Thank you for your help.

Did you just slide the legs under the couch and it didn't get too wobbly? I want to use it while we're actually driving too, so I wondered how slippy/slidey it would be. Did your mouse work on the tablemate surface? How about the foot pedal -- was there enough room under there for your feet and foot pedal?

I wanted to have a multi-level surface actually because I want to have my laptop behind my keyboard, unless I just put my keyboard on my lap and the laptop further out on the table like at knee level. What did you do?

desk - try this

Google "portable laptop computer desks" there are too many to tell you about on here. There looked like some that would have legs to fit under a chair so you could pull it up close. But I used a tablemate too.

Thanks for the suggestion. I already spent a long time looking online. It's so hard to tell without being able to actually see something, which is why I posted for suggestions for somebody who had an idea besides a Tablemate. The problem is, I don't want it to fit a chair under it, but to fit over the lap on a couch, which is why it's so tough, because there are a lot that you can scoot a chair up under. But, as you know, there isn't a lot of room, so it needs to be folding as well... and the 99% of them aren't folding. It has to store either just to the side of the couch in about 5 inches of space or under the couch (maybe). I could just use the dinette table, but I would have to sit on an extra cushion or something because it's high.

I live in an RV - One who knows

I just put in two shelves one wider than the other and works perfectly. Measure careful where you want both. Saves space.

What about this? - abc

I haven't tried this at all, so I can't give you an opinion on it, but it seems to be the type of thing you're looking for.

Okay, How Does One Keep A Cat Off One's Desk?Oct 05, 2010
I have a kitten and she loves to sit and nap on my desk which seemed cute at first, but not so much when I find my cable modem hanging by the cables and cords off the side of my desk and find my mail sorter laying in the floor with my bills scattered every where and it really isn't cute when I'm typing a stat report and she decides that is the perfect time to sit directly in front of my monitor and groom herself.  I put in the floor repeatedly through the day to no avail.  I& ...

Desk Out Of A DoorOct 23, 2009
Have any of you ever built a good desk out of a door?  My desk is on its last legs.  I am remodeling and have several average doors that I could use.   What height would you go with?  What would you use to hold the desk up - fild cabinets, saw horses, etc?   Any ideas out there?   I would love it if I could come up with something interesting.   TIA. ...

What Sitting At Desk All Day Does To UsAug 15, 2015
I bet I'm not the only MT who has near-debilitating pain in the "sitz bones," aka ischial tuberosity pain.  It's directly related to the fact that I sit all day long at my keyboard.  I've tried buying ergonomic chairs and expensive seat cushions, adjusting my desk, sitting up as straight as I can, all to no avail.  I've even had 2 rounds of corticosteroid injections in both ischial tuberosities, right and left.  Ahhhh.....the effects of the steroid injecti ...

There's a guy who I am just friends with (we all kind of hang out together at a local track).  We all walk together at various times sometimes in a group, sometimes 2 at a time or 1 at a time.  This guy and I usually have quite enough to talk about, but occasionally this guy will lapse into total silence.  I have seen him do this with just me, or with me and another person, or a group so it is not personal.  The trouble is, if it's just me and him, that I start feel ...

Hi all- I am in serious need of Christmas gift suggestions, but not just your ordinary giving a gift.  We have some friends who are traveling to Ecuador for 3 months, starting in January. I am wanting to get them an International gift credit card, but I have heard that even using a credit card is a big rigamarole in that country, advance notice, etc. Does anyone know if getting an International calling card (when I'm not the one traveling) is a problem? I can't buy them somethin ...

Suggestions...PLEASE!!!Dec 20, 2009
Okay, so our new neighbors upstairs apparently brought a "gift" with them to share with all of the tenants... COCKROACHES. We've found two so far today, and have lived here for well over a year without ever having them before, so my assumption is the new tenants upstairs brought them with them when they moved in.  Now that I'm done panicking and gagging, I'm still mortified that I have these eight-legged filthy bandits anywhere near me, I thought I would ask on this board ...

Okay, so this isn't earth-shattering, but I'm looking for a solution. My husband is in the retail business and he's always got a wad of keys in his shorts pocket (FL, hence the shorts as opposed to pants!). Anyway, the metal color or whatever it is from the keys leaves stains around the outside of the pocket area that I cannot seem to remove--the metal color like seeps through to the outside. I've tried all sorts of spot removers, leaving detergent to soak on the spot, etc ...

I really hate writing this, but I have nowhere to turn and thought maybe I'd get some suggestions of things I can do. Things are bad for us financially.  My husband was laid off from his job a couple months ago.  Within 2 weeks I got a layoff notice.  We were finally getting back on our feet after another financial crisis and then this happened.  He has not been able to find work (older worker) and I found a job, but it is PT and is making less than what I used to make. ...

I Am So Frustrated With My Neck Pain! Any Suggestions?Oct 30, 2010
I have been dealing with my neck issues for 20 years.  I've been in to MVAs where I was rear-ended by someone traveling pretty fast and I had whiplash injuries both time.  Add the whiplash to what I do for a living and you have a recipe for a chronically painful, stiff neck.  I've now graduated into shooting pains up my neck to behind my left ear and of course those fun tension headaches from the back of my head up to the crown. I went to my doctor last week and got the ...
