I found out today that the ultrasounds of my legs last week showed "reflux" in the veins and a possible DVT. I was measured today for compression stockings in a thickness of 20-30 mm. I've never worn compression stockings (even though they were prescribed for me years ago) because I've heard they're next to impossible to put on. And they're hot. Well, I went ahead and ordered some Jobst silicone band stockings with open toes, knee high. Also, I'm scheduled for in-office laser surgery called vein ablation. One leg at a time, with 2 weeks in-between. He will give me Versed as a relaxer and will numb the areas in my legs where he makes incisions.
I have 2 questions that I hope someone on this board can answer.
1. What has been your experience applying and wearing compression stockings of this thickness (20-30 mm)? Have you noticed an improvement in the aching and itching of your lower legs?
2. How painful is that surgery, and how long afterward does the pain last? What is the recovery like? He said I'll need to walk that very day and walk every day afterward, to make sure the blood circulates. The surgery is on a Friday. Can I go back to work on Monday?
Thanks for your advice.
