Suggestions needed for new office chair

Posted: Aug 12, 2013

The chair I am currently using for work is so uncomfortable.  It's one of those cheap ones from Wal-Mart where the seat area is so short that it only goes to my mid thigh so my legs hang down and they fall asleep.  I really need a new chair!  Suggestions for a comfortable one but don't have to spend a fortunate?!

I use a chair by the brand name of Hon..... - Mom22dogs

.....and I am happy with it. It's just a wee bit on the pricy side (but not too bad), but when I first started working from home, I vowed that my chair was the one piece of equipment I was NOT going to scrimp on (after all, I reasoned I was going to be spending 1/3 of my life in it!).

Yeah, I had one of those chairs too... - sm

...until I threw it across the room in frustration and broke the wheels. I also bought a "desk" from WM, and the thing was so unstable and rocking to and fro that I just finally disassembled it and left the parts in a pile for the garbage collector. I've been in the biz for 20+ years now and wish I had just invested in high-quality furniture from the get go instead of replacing the cheap stuff every year. :(

I haven't found a perfect chair, but I did find something acceptable at Staples. My requirement was that it have 3 separate control levers (height, tilt of back, and tilt of seat). Seems to me it cost around $225. The brand name is Acadia.

Years ago I built a wooden platform to "raise the floor" and keep the backs of my legs from resting heavily on the chair seat. This has been moderately successful.

This is kind of my dream chair - SAM

Not that I'll ever be able to afford it but a girl can dream...

You might try to buy a used - Old Pro

Aeron chair. They're the gold standard, and you might be surprised that you can buy used ones that are reconditioned and very good.

Herman Miller Mirra or Aeron - Worth the price

When you spend your entire day sitting in a chair and that chair affects your health and your productivity, it is worth it to get a good chair.

Note that they come in sizes. Get one that fits.

Went to my GYN a few months ago, given slip of paper for a follow up mammogram, supposed to be in the month of October. Got that. Wrote down in my monthly planner and also had the slip from the doctor. About the 5th or 6th of the month had a person calling, while I was working, to notify me of the October appointment. I explained I was working, on production, did not have the time to talk and she was insisting that I make the appointment right then. I again explained and getting antsy, I just hu ...

RNC Chair Priebus: GOP Platform Is Not NecessarilyAug 22, 2012
This is a bold strategy indeed for the party creed rollout….a candidate disclaimer stating they are not bound to abide by party principles.  I guess it’s a handy escape hatch for a nominee who HAS no core beliefs.  See, the party wants to run on the personhood plank, but they just don’t want to damage their candidates’ future political careers too much by making them say it out loud, in case they need to recycle the VEEP candidate in 2016.  That Reinc ...

FEC Vice-chair Says E-mail Raises Questions Of Improper Conduct With IRSAug 09, 2013
The plot thickens. Before the IRS, she was general counsel and head of the enforcement office at the FEC since 1986. Craig Engle, a D.C. attorney had worked with her and testified that she felt conservative groups should be subjected to more vigorous investigations and backed Republicans against the wall while giving Democrats a pass. Contributions from foreign nationals drew more scrutiny when they went to Republicans than when they went to Democrats. Nice. Shows she wasn't exactly neutral ...

There's a guy who I am just friends with (we all kind of hang out together at a local track).  We all walk together at various times sometimes in a group, sometimes 2 at a time or 1 at a time.  This guy and I usually have quite enough to talk about, but occasionally this guy will lapse into total silence.  I have seen him do this with just me, or with me and another person, or a group so it is not personal.  The trouble is, if it's just me and him, that I start feel ...

Need SuggestionsDec 07, 2011
Hi all- I am in serious need of Christmas gift suggestions, but not just your ordinary giving a gift.  We have some friends who are traveling to Ecuador for 3 months, starting in January. I am wanting to get them an International gift credit card, but I have heard that even using a credit card is a big rigamarole in that country, advance notice, etc. Does anyone know if getting an International calling card (when I'm not the one traveling) is a problem? I can't buy them somethin ...

Suggestions...PLEASE!!!Dec 20, 2009
Okay, so our new neighbors upstairs apparently brought a "gift" with them to share with all of the tenants... COCKROACHES. We've found two so far today, and have lived here for well over a year without ever having them before, so my assumption is the new tenants upstairs brought them with them when they moved in.  Now that I'm done panicking and gagging, I'm still mortified that I have these eight-legged filthy bandits anywhere near me, I thought I would ask on this board ...

Okay, so this isn't earth-shattering, but I'm looking for a solution. My husband is in the retail business and he's always got a wad of keys in his shorts pocket (FL, hence the shorts as opposed to pants!). Anyway, the metal color or whatever it is from the keys leaves stains around the outside of the pocket area that I cannot seem to remove--the metal color like seeps through to the outside. I've tried all sorts of spot removers, leaving detergent to soak on the spot, etc ...

I really hate writing this, but I have nowhere to turn and thought maybe I'd get some suggestions of things I can do. I have an antique seed drawer that I use as my kitchen island, and in the glass doors I have different pastas, beans, etc.  It is beautiful.  I have had this island for years now, and change the pasta and beans at least twice a year, as they get dried out and begin to look white in color.  Well.... now I am getting bugs :-(.  I am sooo upset, and have no idea what to put in the glass fronts now.  There is no way I can continue to use food products.  I am wondering i ...
