Weight Watchers

Posted: Apr 11, 2011

Hi, everyone!   I need to lose weight and nothing I have done has worked, so I different approach.  I don't want to do fake food like medifast or Nutrisystem, etc. - so I'm wondering about WW?  I hate those commercials, but I can overlook them if the program works.  Has anyone done WW and if so, what are the pros and cons of Meetings vs Online?   Since I already work at home and live alone, I'm thinking I should give myself a reason to get out at least once a week - but would really like some input.   TIA.

Not sure about Weight Watchers........ - sm

But I lost 100 pounds a couple of years ago and kept it off just by changing my lifestyle, eating healthier, no program.

I have been wanting to lose 10 more pounds since then, but couldn't get it off so I ordered Shaun T Insanity Workout program. It comes with a meal plan that is EASY to follow. No seeking out off the wall ingredients to make complicated meals, I enjoy everything he has in there to eat. The workouts are six days a week and they are HARD, but it is a 60-day program and after the first month I lost 9 pounds and 11 inches. I am now starting month two, which is actually the "shred" month, where you are supposed to lose the most weight. The first month is basically to condition your body to be able to keep up with the workouts. I love it:)

Gotta agree - TurboFire for me - wimt

I lost nearly 25 pounds last year doing Chalean Extreme and then TurboFire, both by Beachbody, the same company that has Insanity. I tried to watch what I ate, but just working out made a huge difference. I've fallen off the wagon over the winter and gained about 12 back, so I'm starting it all over again. I'm also using myfitnesspal.com and logging everything I'm eating. In the just few days I've done that, I've watched what I'm eating, watched what I snacked on, and have kind of gotten my fitness mojo back. Beachbody has some great programs.

re: WW - lost 25 pounds

I tried WW before, don't like it, meetings were not helpful. I tried Nutrisystem too, but those types of programs are unaffordable and the on-line support is really not helpful.

I finally got to the point where I MADE myself start getting active, walking, riding a bike... as I started to see results I bought home gym equipment, now have a full home gym and use it at least 3 times a week. I have lost 25 pounds in the past 9 months and am going for another 10 to reach my 125 goal.

I feel better, look better and the good thing is that the gradual loss of the weight gave me no stretch marks! I also eat better, smaller, more frequent meals.

Anyway, those online and food delivery things didn't work for me. And did I mention, they are very expensive?!

I lost 70 lb doing WW, took me 2 years but sm - ChiliPepah

it was EASY, affordable, you eat foods you already know and love (portion control, substituting lower fat versions for mayo, etc) and it is plan you can follow for life. I thought meetings were good because you get some personal interaction and great tips / motivation from others who are in the same boat. You have nothing to lose but WEIGHT - :)

I lost 31 pounds in a month on Atkins - NoMeetingsRequired

[ In Reply To ..]
If you're blood type is O you should do very well on Atkins or an Atkinseque diet like South Beach. No meetings or packaged food required! And you will lose FAT, not muscle. Drink LOTS of water (WW says this too), and supplement with potassium.

Thanks for all your replies. I'm considering all the points you raise. Regarding Atkins - I did South Beach for 6 days and nearly went crazy. I can't do the low carbs - it makes me extremely irritable and being a witch is not worth the weight loss. I like all foods and if I have to eliminate any, I feel deprived. At my age, I can't go through this again and this needs to be my last weight loss. I lost before and kept it off for years - like 14 - then menopause and lots of deaths in my family started me ballooning up. I used to be very active but have become a slug in the past few years. I really think the inactivity is more to blame than what I eat - I eat no junk food, no candy, ice cream about once a month and I still can't lose more than a few pounds, then quickly hit a plateau.

WW might be perfect for you - LK

Because no food is off limits. Weight Watchers is probably the healthiest and most reasonable program out there, and that is why it has existed for so many years. My daughter is on it right now, and she LOVES it - she has lost 35 pounds since January, and does NOT feel deprived.

You might want to give it a try.

I've lost 60 lbs with WW online - success!

I never tried meetings, so can't compare. At the time I signed up for WW, I was busy, busy, busy, with young kids at home. If I had to leave the house for one more commitment, it could only have been to check myself into a serious rest facility!

I did the online program and loved it. It may have taken me a bit longer to get the hang of the program since I was doing it alone, but I eventually got it. Once I was able to see the big picture, that this was a lifestyle change, I really was able to run with it. Literally! I even started running! I feel so good these days. What I learned from WW was that ever food encounter was just a choice. I could choose a slice of cake every now and then, just not everyday, a couple of times a day, which is how I used to eat. I also have ramped that up to eating mostly whole foods and far less meat and sugar, which has helped me feel wonderful.

I highly recommend WW. Good luck!

Weight Watchers is definitely the best. It is - cindy

really a diet but a lifestyle. Diets are not good, as you make a change while on the diet and then go back to not dieting and gain it back. What you really need is to learn to eat properly and exercise appropriately. Weight Watchers teaches this to you. Another key component is a support system which WW has for you with the meetings. Also, I think getting out of the house and being with other people is important for your mental health, as with depression and isolation it is much easier to make the wrong choices and gain weight. Good luck to you. Hope you join WW.

Hi. I have done WW.. I lost 60 pounds. Very easy and great, but I screwed up and stopped following the plan. I gained 20 pounds. I rejoined and have lost 5 so far.. I refuse to let the weight beat me. WW is by far the best and healthiest way to go. Been in business since the 60s and most docs will tell you they are the best and the healthiest option.

It's so dang expensive. sm - Sally Q

I lost weight with WW, but it's too expensive now.

If you want motivation go to the 3 Fat Chicks on a Diet forum.

Spark People is free and you can log all of your meals and it counts the nutrition for you.

I didn't keep my diet journal this week and according to my home scales I think I have gained 2 pounds.   Totally my fault, but feeling down in the mouth and hating the idea of going to weigh in tonight.  Have lost consistently up until now.  Hoping I can forgive myself and do better next week.  Such a long journey to lose all the weight I need to.  Quite a few life time members in our group that are encouraging.  I better go, fess up and take it as a less ...

Weight IssuesMar 25, 2012
Okay, I have always been a medium built girl, somewhat petite at 5'3 and always carried my weight well. Two years ago I quit smoking and packed on 20 lbs. I got busy working out and counting calories, and tried to change my eating habits. Okay, it was gradual, but I lost 10 lbs. Over the course of some months it continued to decline gradually. But this Winter around the holidays I pigged out. Then I went through a transition where I lost my job, quit cooking and eating healthy and jus ...

Weight Problem - Help!May 04, 2010
I am hoping some of you out there can help.  I am 5'4" and weigh 108 pounds.  I would like to gain 10 or 12 pounds so I look healthier.  Some people look at me like I either have a drug problem or I am bulemic, and that is SO not the case.  It is to the point I am getting very self-conscious about it and even getting to the point that I don't feel comfortable with my husband seeing me.  The problem is that I do not have an appetite a lot of ...

Are You Happy With Your Weight?Apr 18, 2013
Just wondering if any woman is ever truly "happy" with her body?  I have always had weight struggles and had gotten very heavy and I lost it all about five years ago.  I was happy, at first, but then it went away.  I am not underweight and am actually at the high end of "normal" weight, but I just cannot be happy about how I look.  I decided I needed to lose 10 more pounds for this summer and worked hard and lost it, but I still look in the mirror and I think I see myself a l ...

Menopause And Weight GainFeb 13, 2011

Metamucil And Weight LossJun 02, 2010
