Lost Weight, but...

Posted: Sep 6, 2012

Hi Everyone- I've lost about 25 pounds.  Okay, I'm happy about that, it's been a tough road and I still have more to go.  However, at my ripe old age of 57, one of my chins has turned into a turkey wattle thingie!  I don't want/can't afford anyway plastic surgery.

Any exercises that really work?  Or how about creams that won't break the bank or home remedies?

Congrats on losing the weight! - awesome

I have been trying like crazy and just cant seem to lose anything. I have no remedies ideas for the extra skin on your neck, but maybe you could try googling "neck exercises" to tighten it up?

I hope you find something that works. Let me know how you lost it...

Thanks! - OP

I actually didn't go on a regimented diet or do anything crazy. I didn't even exercise, but I know I should. I just became more healthy and ate the right things. I pretty much gave up deep fried foods and white breads. I do have pizza once a week, but 2 slices instead of 4. LOL. I eat tons of fruits and veggies now to keep myself full, and keep the metabolism going.

I used to have a hamburger once a week, now it's every other week. On the alternate week, I chop up a bunch of fresh veggies (I like peppers, onions, carrots), wrap them up in foil with oregano, olive oil, salt and peppers and throw it on the grill.

Once a week, I'll just have a huge salad for dinner.

Hubby here is a bad boy, and I realized I have to do this without him being on the same page. It's not really cooking for 2 people. I just re-vamp mine a bit. (In other words, if he's having chicken parmesan, I'll just have the chicken w/out the sauce and cheese, and maybe throw it on some greens for myself with some Italian salad dressing.)

It's mostly a lot of little things. I also gave up wine with dinner. I'm not a big drinker, but it was an easy thing to do and knocked off a couple of hundred calories per day.

I remember my mom working out to Jack Lalanne and doing his face exercises (sm) - anon

back in the dark ages when I was a kid. It really works. See link below.

Thank you so much! - I remember Jack!

OMG, that is so cool. I'll try it.

Someone told me to put milk on my neck. Hey, can't hurt...

Thanks for sharing Jack! I just saved this... - Bindi

to my favorites and also the YouTube video appearing immediately after. I'll be doing them but only after I've closed the curtains :)

Every time I think of Jack Lalanne, all I can think of - is that he lived in the same development

that I lived in during college and he was quite old. He would sunbathe nude in his front yard in all of his old leathery glory. It was like a trainwreck--you don't want to look, but you just can't help it.

Wow, that's some visual!!!! Thanks for the laugh :) (nm) - Bindi

loose skin - Getting there myself

[ In Reply To ..]
Congratulations on the weight loss!! It's definitely a journey. Keep up the good work.

If it's truly loose skin, there's not a lot you can do about it. The exercises will tone the muscles underneath, but the skin itself loses elasticity over time. If you've been a yo-yo dieter, then it tends to be even worse.

The advice that I have read is get to your goal weight and then wait a year. Your skin will retract a little bit, but not as much as if you (we!) were in our 20s.

Give it some time and relax. I know it bugs you but there's just not a lot that you can do about it. Instead of looking at your neck as a bad thing, look at it as a good thing and proof that you have lost the weight.

Thanks - Weight Loser

Thanks so much! I'm going to try to tone some of it with those goofy-looking exercises. I thought hubby was going to have me committed this evening when he saw all my facial movements!

I'm not for sure about the chin.... - sm

But sit ups actually strengthen the neck. In Billy Blanks abs workout he even says that the most exercise most people get for their neck is sitting up out of bed. When I worked my abs with that workout I noticed the front of my neck looking great! I don't know if it will help chin-wise, but it can't hurt. Just do sit ups or crunches, without your hands behind your head. Hold them up for like 10 seconds or however long you are able. This could help. Good luck.

It Actually is my Neck - Weight Loser

It actually is my neck that is sagging.

Thanks so much, I never knew that....I hadn't make the connection between the 2.

Weight WatchersApr 11, 2011
Hi, everyone!   I need to lose weight and nothing I have done has worked, so I different approach.  I don't want to do fake food like medifast or Nutrisystem, etc. - so I'm wondering about WW?  I hate those commercials, but I can overlook them if the program works.  Has anyone done WW and if so, what are the pros and cons of Meetings vs Online?   Since I already work at home and live alone, I'm thinking I should give myself a reason to get out at ...

Weight IssuesMar 25, 2012
Okay, I have always been a medium built girl, somewhat petite at 5'3 and always carried my weight well. Two years ago I quit smoking and packed on 20 lbs. I got busy working out and counting calories, and tried to change my eating habits. Okay, it was gradual, but I lost 10 lbs. Over the course of some months it continued to decline gradually. But this Winter around the holidays I pigged out. Then I went through a transition where I lost my job, quit cooking and eating healthy and jus ...

I am hoping some of you out there can help.  I am 5'4" and weigh 108 pounds.  I would like to gain 10 or 12 pounds so I look healthier.  Some people look at me like I either have a drug problem or I am bulemic, and that is SO not the case.  It is to the point I am getting very self-conscious about it and even getting to the point that I don't feel comfortable with my husband seeing me.  The problem is that I do not have an appetite a lot of ...

Are You Happy With Your Weight?Apr 18, 2013
Just wondering if any woman is ever truly "happy" with her body?  I have always had weight struggles and had gotten very heavy and I lost it all about five years ago.  I was happy, at first, but then it went away.  I am not underweight and am actually at the high end of "normal" weight, but I just cannot be happy about how I look.  I decided I needed to lose 10 more pounds for this summer and worked hard and lost it, but I still look in the mirror and I think I see myself a l ...

Menopause And Weight GainFeb 13, 2011
I found out about a year ago that I'm in full-blown menopause.  I have all the characteristic issues that go along with it.  All of my life I've had to watch what I eat and try to exercise regularly (but that isn't going nearly as well as it should be right now).  Some days I just have no motivation whatsoever.  My tighter and tighter fitting clothes should be motivation enough, but apparently it isn't.  I'm so tired of this weight gain and feeli ...

Weight Loss ShakesMay 13, 2015
