So are there any companies left that pay decent and have accounts that are busy--if so, please let me know! I am about to throw the towel in and just get out of transcription for good---sick and tired of the crappy pay. I have not made this little since high school!! What a joke!!

I still have a decent setup which almost got outsourced last year but they changed their mind at the last minute. Now I've made it to 62. Not sure that I'll retire yet (but I may - my daughter is expecting twins and I want to be able to help), but it's nice to know I now have the option!

My Opinion - What We Are Doing

We are drawing starting at age 62, in case there's nothing left by the time we're 65. (We're in that Boomer window where we can collect full SS at 65.)

We are still working, but if we make too much, they "take" $1 out for every $2 you make after a certain yearly income. Supposedly, we get it back when we turn 65, but I'm not holding my breath for that.

And congrats! Enjoy your grandchildren, by all means!

Full age is 65... I took full retirement and sure - was not at 65 but later

I have drawn now for about 3 years but mine did not start full at age 65.
Born 1943 and after age 66 and then goes up in months, 1944 age 66 and 2 months, 1945 age 66 and so many months and for anyone born 1960 or later full is age 67. I did not want money taken out so I waited until old enough for full and now can make as much as I want and no issues at all. Better for me this way.

When I first got into being an MT, ages ago, I stayed with the same company for 14 years and they sold out. Since that time, I couldn't even tell you how many companies I worked for. Heck, until I got my W2s I didn't even have any idea how many companies I had worked for in just this year alone! I am tired of job jumping and am getting up, dusting off and looking for me a "real job". MT allowed me to raise my children and I am thankful for that, but I'm not going to sit here and work for free anymore.

They keep thinking that if they find a "good" MT company to work for, it is going to be wonderful for years. No, wrong. You can run, but you can't hide.

If you decide to keep MT-company hopping on hope, at least be prepared for the worst and start training/looking for something else.

By 2015 the field won't even exist anymore. - Might as well try something else.

IMHO, there will always be a need for MEs. The pay isn't much now but if you are on SS, it takes the pressure off.

Hey ladies! I'm a full time transcriptionist who has been sitting around wayyy too much over the years! LOL Tomorrow I'm starting a workout program (already started the nutrition program today). I am having upcoming surgery and do not want to use what little bit of sick time I have (because then I'm in a pickle if I get the flu or something). My husband is younger than me, 56 now and he is balking about the trees leading into our property.
