Time for the Alaskan bears again

This is the time of year when the bears come down to the river and try to catch the salmon as they're swimming upstream. Last year, I saw 17 bears at once standing at the foot of the falls! If bears are not your thing, they have lots more live cams, including service-dog puppies, birds, marine life, and 4 new African safari cams.

Been to Alaska twice and saw bears both - times out in the wild

The first year passed by a stream where fishermen were trying their luck. Coming back on the trip passed once again, the fishermen were leaving all their tackle and running for the hills. I saw why then because a bear decided they wanted their catch and the men scrambled. One time I saw 2 mother grizzly bears with their cubs out in Denali. Adorable but we were on a tour bus and totally safe. Love me some bears!

Obviously, you loved it so much the first time that you had to go back.

On the live feed the other day, I saw fisherman out in the river with their waders on, and there were 2 bears on the shore watching them. I guess the fisherman didn't feel threatened because they went right on fishing, and the bears looked very calm and only mildly curious.

How thrilling it must have been for you to be so close to that beautiful part of nature!

What was strange was the first time I went - probably about 5 years ago now

and just again this past year, the first year saw loads of animals, moose walk the streets of Anchorage, saw baby bear along side the bus just chomping down on berries, did not pay any attention to the bus at all, the bald eagles were all in the tree tops, saw 1 lonely wolf (which was told unusual to see during the daytime anyway), foxes, saw musk oxen and this last year hardly saw any animals, 2 moose, 1 bear, no bald eagles, just strange. Traveled across Alaska both times with tours (I travel with tours as hubby does not like to travel and my middle name is travel). Go in the summer, be prepared for cold and I mean snow, ice and bring out the long johns. I was amazed at being able to look outside (first time around) and the sun did not set, dusky dark only at 3 o'clock in the morning. You have to have really good blinds (curtains) because of the sun never setting. You know Alaska pays EVERYONE to live there, children included. This was because of the oil line and this past year every person living there got $900.00. Having said that, the place is drop dead gorgeous with the mountains and the scenery but I would NEVER want to live there, too rugged for me. On our tour 3 ladies there who were living the gluten free diet. Going into Denali Park they were told NO stores there to sell gluten free, they would have to buy supplies prior to our getting there and we were there for 3 days. No bank that I saw either. I want a close by store. I don't want to get out and chop down a tree for firewood and do not want to kill my own food supply. Nice visiting though.

Moose do not pay attention to drivers and moose are killed all over the highways because they cross them. It is against the law to kill a moose and not let the police know. They have people who come to the scene, cut up and harvest the moose meat for people who maybe on the poor end of things.
