[ In Reply To ..]It's my understanding that we have outsourced protection for some of our ambassadors to private security companies such as Blackwater or whatever it calls itself these days.
Dubya was on a path to privatization. I'm not crazy about the government paying private contractors when it could have done the job itself, though. Our military is now stretched to the breaking point, so the change back to assigning it the duty of protecting our ambassadors, if it even happens, will be a slow one.
In the meantime, we should be investigating other security companies. Blackwater has too many black marks.

Blackwater guards were promised immunity by the S Bureau of Diplomatic Security, and arm of the State Department. They had no authority to issue immunity directly. Believe it or not, the Bush State Department claims they had no prior knowledge of the offer. This pseudo-immunity for the guards statements should not stand in the way of the prosecution of charges "manslaughter" of 17 Iraqi civilians. No collateral damage defense strategies allowed. This incident happened without provocation.
