I think my cat saved mine and my son's lives this morning

Posted: Jan 9, 2014

My son is home for an extended visit and he sleepwalks. This morning about 6:30 my cat came in bugging me and kept lying on my head and wouldn't let me sleep and I finally woke up enough to figure out that the house was full of smoke (my smoke alarm didn't go off) and my son had gotten up in his sleep and put a frozen pizza in the oven on 450 and sat back down on the couch and the pizza was burning.  I had to use one of those silicone oven mits to get the pizza out and throw it outside in the snow, then open up the doors and get the smoke out and it still smells like smoke in here.  I'm a really heavy sleeper too and I keep wondering would we have just laid there and died in our sleep if he hadn't woke me up. My D/S said he thought he had dreamed he did it but actually did it and the nearest he could figure was it had been in there about 2 hours (it was a 15-minute pizza). It's scary.

without a doubt - cats here too

I had a similar experience with a dog. I was upstairs working, and all of a sudden my dog was up there barking nonstop and even pulling on me like he thought he was Lassie. Went downstairs to a house full of smoke from a pan my SO had left on the stove and which had caught on fire.

Give your kitty a can of people tuna. :)

of their love, devotion and intelligence. Thank God for your cat. Thank God your lives were spared. We are truly privileged to live on this planet with animals. I am so glad your shared this with us.

Similar experience here - with my fur person

My feline fur person did something similar. My cat met me at the door when I came home. She was obviously anxious about something, running away and then back, meowing insistently, trying to lead me toward something. I thought it was a mouse or something she caught that she wanted to show me.

She led me into walk-in closet, jumped up on a hamper, stood on her back feet, stretched up and began patting the cover of the fuse box. I still thought it was a bug she was after, but when I opened the door to the circuit breaker box, I could hear crackling and it smelled kind of burnt.

The electrician said that a fire would have started in a short while.

We had 2 parrots, at the time of this event. They are very intelligent birds.

One of the parrots starting exhibiting some odd behavior--for him, anyway. He starting plunking on his cage, chewing the paint off the cage, picking at himself and objects more than usual, etc. This was 8 months ago that it started.

I said to my husband, "maybe he knows something we don't about the other bird." The other bird seemed fine to us, acted his usual self, was eating okay, etc.

Sure enough, about a month ago, the other bird got very sick (he was old) and died. The other bird has all but stopped his odd behavior.

They DO sense things. I just wish they could talk.

Thank you for sharing! - quietlydisquiet

These stories were touching and amazing. I have a very lovable and smart 9-month-old kitty and she is my best friend. I love hearing stories about hero pets and I would hope if I was in danger my girl would help me out too. Pets add life and save life as well it would seem!

Thank goodness for your cat! sm - Love my cats and dogs

So glad he woke you up! Animals are amazing.

One of our cats kept chirping and talking and was walking back in forth in front of a basement wall. Turns out, there was an electrical wire that had started on fire and was just about to ignite curtains. My husband had rescued her as a 6-month-old kitten when a young punk opened the door of his pickup and tossed her out because his father said he couldn't keep her. She was our love for 19 years.

When I was a teenager, my dog (a GSD) alerted our family one night that my younger brother was having a seizure. At the time, we did not know he had epilepsy as he had never had a seizure before that we were aware of. She kept jumping on his bed and trying to wake up the rest of the family until she succeeded in getting our attention.

Acupuncture Saved My Dog!Jun 04, 2010
My little 3-year-old yorkie/chihuahua, Odis, woke up one morning and was unable to feel his legs.  He was kind of dragging his feet and walking on the tops of his back feet.  He was in terrible pain.  I raced him to my regular vet.  He said Odis had severe spinal problems and would need to be put down or have a $3,500 surgery with no guarantee that he would even survive.   They loaded him up with painkillers and told me to bring him in the next day so they could put ...

Did You Know That Obama's MIL Lives At The WH?Mar 18, 2015
Just saw on CBS this morning that Obama's mother in law didn't want Moochelle to marry him because he is half white. But, in her words, it was better than him being "all white".  Then they said she likes him now and even lives at the WH with them!  Wow!  If this was a republican in law saying something like that they would be crucified. And I really hope she's paying her fair share of the rent. Why should taxpayers pay for her? ...

Are Those "Obamacare Saved My Life" Stories Jan 19, 2017
As soon as Republicans took the first steps toward repealing ObamaCare, stories started popping up all over about how ObamaCare "saved my life." CNN ran an Op-Ed called "ObamaCare saved my life. What now?" and Salon one titled "ObamaCare saved my dad's life — and then he voted for Donald Trump." Another reported on how a "Sedona cancer survivor tells Paul Ryan: 'ObamaCare saved my life'." Huffington Post had a piece about how "ObamaCare Saved My Mom's Life." The list ...

What's Your Morning MO?Feb 23, 2010
I'm just curious about how many of us working at home have the same routine. I get up in the morning and immediately heat up bottled water for coffee (I use a French press which makes a really perfect cup of coffee), then hop in the shower.  After that, I make my coffee and drink it while taking about 10 minutes to put on my mineral makeup (so much faster than the other kind of makeup), eyeliner, lip liner and lip gloss.  I then blow dry my hair, get dressed, make a second cup of ...

Question For Anyone That Lives In A Semidetached Home.Jun 27, 2011
I live in a semidetached home and my house sits front from the other house about maybe 2 feet.  The neighbors want to build a full porch with roof about a foot away from my house which of course then I couldnt get to the part of my house which sits front from theirs without getting on their roof or probably not even being able to get to parts of it because of the roof etc.  Also they would be doing major construction about a foot away from my house and sewer line.  I am not v ...

Obama didn't get his way since the important sequester meeting was only about 1 HOUR LONG.  Yes, he really is looking out for the people -- NOT-- or else they'd still be meeting and negotiating.  Sequester stands. He's not "wasting any more time" (my words, not his) since the sequester was "just dumb and arbitrary" (his words, not mine).  So, Mr. President, if it's so dumb, why did you suggest it in the first place?????
