Not my child but a tween girl I know got FB message

This young tween just posted a picture and the teacher saw and said adorable. She then thanked him and said miss u. He was a teacher to her and another sibling of hers. He then said we miss you and asked if they could Skype or iChat with CB over the summer. What do you think, innocent or not. ;

sound right at all. Sounds really suspicious especially since the girl is a tween and the teacher is an adult. I would be contacting someone, call the police department, as now there are special departments to handle these type of issues. Even if it is the teacher this is wrong.

Many times predators, sadly, are friends and people who we trust the most.

I would love to err on the side of this teacher being simply naive, but that would be just foolish. Definitely bring it up with someone at the school and they will hopefully handle it in a professional manner.

They know to err on the side of extreme caution so as not to even allow a glimmer of impropriety.

There is no reason for a teacher to skype with a former student (esp with this age difference, and male/female)over the summer if it is not directly related to a school activity that is sanctioned/monitored by the school. None.
I don't know if police need to be involved but I would call the school.

I'm not arguing with you I'm just really baffled. You are either a child or a teen. There is no inbetween.

Once you hit 13 you are no longer a child of 12 years of age, you are now a teenager (but of course they are still children).

Maybe the tween thing is something like Platform 9 and 3/4. LOL

I was also very tall, often mistaken for 15. Emotionally young, certainly. Academically advanced, yes. Physically above average, yes. Definitely a tween.

The child showed me the picture and I happened to see what was posted under it. I then went on FB and looked up his name and there it was, a teacher. I then talked with her and tried to explain boundaries. She sees nothing wrong in them being friends. I see red flags. I tried to tell her if the school knows they would not be happy about this. I more than likely will get some information to the school about this. I am not trying to get the man to lose his job but he should know better.

A tween is a child so I heard between the ages of 10 and 12, not yet a teen.

yesterday trying to explain some boundaries. I have met the guy before at open house at their school so seeing the name thought I knew and then checked. When I started talking about boundaries it was "oh no, it's not like that because my mom and him were really good friends and and we got along really well but we havent really talked in a while." Just this week in town a teacher who is 59 has been charged with child endangerment and molestation with a middle school child, saying he thought he was falling in love with her. Her father does not use FB, her mother seldom as work and athletics take up the majority of her time but if you think I should just let the family handle guess I will go that route. Thanks.

It sounds like her parents need to be MORE "with her."

"I don't use FB" "I'm busy with work and other things" are not acceptable excuses as to not being on top of their child's online activities.

If you feel you must do something, and I absolutely get why you would and should, have a talk with Mom & Dad and stress the importance of taking the time and making the effort to check this out, dig a little deeper.

If the Mom really is "good friends" with this teacher (and you only have the kid's word on that hmmmm), I would think Mom would want to know how her "good friend" is behaving with her underage daughter.

How would you feel if you were the parent and another adult did not tell you but instead decided to handle it they way they thought best?

be considered innocent until proven guilty of something. If the teacher were my husband, I would say "No, this could get you into trouble." If it were my 'tween, I say, "No, it could get you or your teacher into trouble."

But, since they are NOT my husband or my kid, then most of all, I would consider the whole thing to be NONE OF MY BUSINESS.
