Milwaukee 2-year-old dies of self-inflicted gunshot

Posted: Jun 8, 2010

Are you kidding me? It's a very short article, read to the end. You will want to be on the next plane to WI to personally beat on this woman.

A Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s report says the toddler found the gun in a dresser drawer Sunday and accidentally shot himself in the face.

Authorities say Zaire Cameron was in a bedroom with two other children watching a movie. His parents were in another room when they heard the gunshot and found the toddler slumped over the end of the bed with the gun next to him.

WTMJ radio reports the boy’s mother caught him playing with the .38 caliber gun a day before, punished him and put the gun back in the same drawer.

I completely agree and I do not believe that it is about the gun itself but (sm) - anon

instead about the people with the gun. I was raised around guns and have been married to a police officer for 27 years so I have been around guns a LOT in my lifetime. How is it that a grown, fully developed mentally human being cannot understand the dangers of having a gun in a house that is not put under lock and key. I raised two kids with guns in my home, now have grandkids in my home and my husband's guns are always, ALWAYS locked away and the key kept in a place that no one is aware of other than the two of us. This was done even before he became a police officer, in my opinion it is called common sense. This is an absolutely horrible, horrible incident (not accident), one that was avoidable. That baby could still be alive today had the parents used just basic common sense.

so sad - gunowner2

This is really a tragedy. I too own a gun and my children are aware of it and also know all the dangers. Luckily none of the other children were injured in this as well. It could have been a lot worse. This, unfortunately, will play into the hands of those law makers pushing to disarm us. It was not the fault of the gun - this lady should be sent in front of a firing squad and given justice.

It is a tragedy and granted the parent should have been smarter than putting it back in the same place, but your solution is to put her "in front of a firing squad and given justice"? What a stupid, insensitive thing to say.

It is tragic, could have been avoided, is not the fault of the gun, on and on and on, but PLEASE... I'd be willing to bet that the parents are going through enough grief at this point in time, probably also wondering why they themselves didn't take the necessary precautions to prevent this incident.

You might not think they deserve compassion, but don't forget, they lost a PRECIOUS CHILD, and they know it's their fault.

But to "punish" a 2-year-old who has no concept how - dangerous a gun is or even what it is?

Things like this just make me sick to my stomach. I have a niece who just had her 2nd child not even one month ago. She is with the father of the 2 children who does nothing and I mean nothing to contribute to the household. My niece is definitely a "battered woman" and worships the ground this loser walks on. She worked up until almost delivering this last baby and he lost his due to stealing from the company he worked for. Oh, and the latest is, they are going to be evicted. It just makes my blood boil, when I hear of such tragedies and I fear for my great niece and now my great nephew. You can't talk to them or they threaten to not let you see those kids. You give them money to help out and food, thinking they will help themselves, but unfortunately they do not. Sorry, but this gun incident with this little 2-year-old boy reminds me of all the inept people out there raising these unfortunate children that don't have a chance.

Our Stupid Self-inflicted CrisisJul 25, 2011
New York (CNN) -- Let me get this straight. The people who have been preaching the most about the dangers of American decline are right now helping to hasten American decline. Because if America defaults on its debt, not only will we find ourselves in a far deeper fiscal hole, but the full faith and credit of the United States will be compromised. In our globalized era, that means America will be considered an unpredictable partner and a second-class power. Worst of all, this will be a s ...

2-year-old Kentucky Girl Accidentally Killed By Her 5-year-old Brother May 01, 2013
"A 2-year-old Kentucky girl was accidentally killed by her 5-year-old brother who fired a rifle he had been given as a gift, officials said Wednesday." Parents can be arrested for not reporting a missing child. It's not even legal to let your child drive a car without a permit. Yet, this sad, sad story is unfortunately way too common. We MUST start holding adults accountable for guns in the home. ...

New Year's Traditions? Dec 26, 2013
Anyone have any specific traditions they do New Year's Eve or NY Day? Both of those days vary for us as we've gotten older. NY Eve we USED to do it up big, get all duded up, go to a banquet hall, dance, ring in the New Year with Champagne, leave after midnight. These days, we just go out for a quiet dinner with friends, or do a little thing at someone's house. Staying up until after midnight is optional for us these days, but we've been doing pretty good ringing it in. ...

How Is It Possible That A 76-year-old WomanFeb 13, 2014
Yeah, it's my mother. Maybe that says it all. She has told me she wishes she could change how she and my father parented my brothers and me when we were growing up. In the 60s and 70s nobody really thought about how to parent. They just did it, good and bad, so I'm dealing with the fallout of their choices just like every other person alive.  I think we've had the normal ups and downs, although my mother has been and continues to be a very critical, judgmental person, not jus ...
